“It was good to be back in the England squad,

in such difficult circumstances. I’m playing
regularly for Spurs, which is great, loving being
a key part of the team and to be called up by

Full-back Chris Hughton came through our youth system to make his first team
debut on 1 September, 1979, and less than two months later he was playing on the
international stage. Hughton featured for the Republic of Ireland against USA
on 29 October and went on to win 51 caps while at Spurs, scoring once for his

Our first black player to feature for England was Sol Campbell who won his first
