THFC G E T T I N G TO K N O W. . . 6 9 WHO WHO DO YOU SIT NEXT TO THE MOST WHEN TRAVELLING TO AWAY DAYS? “I sit with the Finnish girls usually, but Matilda [Vinberg] has just come on to our table, so basically you have one English, two Finnish and a Swede, which is quite cool and I have always got on with people from different countries.” WHO INSPIRES YOU EVERY DAY? “My mum. She is my person, whenever WORDS BY PAOLO IANTOSCA GETTING TO KNOW... molly bartrip Continuing our Q&A feature that appears first and exclusively in this season’s official matchday programme. Next up is vicecaptain MOLLY BARTRIP, as we find out a little bit more about the defender... I’m in trouble or struggling, then she’s the one I always turn to. She has just been inspiring me throughout my life and, I think, if I can be half the parent that she is, then I will be happy.” WHO IS THE MOST STYLISH PLAYER IN THE SQUAD? “Celin [Bizet] is definitely up there, I like her fashion and we vibe in a similar way. Olga [Ahtinen] also has quite good fashion sense, so I would say those two.” WHERE WHERE WOULD YOU GO IF YOU CAN TRAVEL BACK IN TIME? “I would want to go back to when I went to Thailand with the elephants. That was the most surreal experience and I will be going back one day.” MAURICIO POCHETTINO GAVE OLIVER HIS CHANCE BEYONCE WOULD BE MOLLY’S DINNER PARTY GUEST

7 0 G E T T I N G TO K N O W. . . THFC WHERE WOULD YOU PREFER TO GO – BEACH OR CITY? “The beach, but I do love travelling around a city and visiting the tourist attractions, although at the end of the season, I would prefer to just be relaxing.” WHERE IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO VISIT? “I think I want to go to Sri Lanka and also a safari, that would be a bit of me. If not those, then I would want to do the Amalfi Coast.” WHERE DO YOU LIKE TO VISIT IN LONDON? “Shoreditch is where I have always known as that’s the part of London I like the most. However, I went to the Borough Market with some of the girls recently and had a great time.” HOW HOW DO YOU SPEND ANY FREE TIME YOU GET? “It would be chilling. I love new series and bake from time to time, but other than that, I try to switch off from football, which I do find difficult.” HOW DID YOU GET INTO FOOTBALL? “My dad. He literally took me to the local park and started kicking the ball up in the air, I mis-controlled every single one and I got so frustrated that I would go back again and again, and then I was suddenly able to control a football and it all started from there.” HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR EGGS IN THE MORNING? “That’s tough, but I do love omelettes. Although I like my eggs anyway to be honest and when I was growing up, I would love the dippy eggs.” HOW MANY SUPERSTITIONS DO YOU HAVE? “I don’t have any, but I had some before. I realised, for me, that it doesn’t really help and I think it hinders THE AMALFI COAST IS ON MOLLY’S T0-DO LIST... “i don’t have any superstitions... but i do like to have pasta the night before a game”

The only thing I like to do is have pasta the night before a game.” WHAT WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO LEARN? “I would like to learn some more languages and I love to learn how to play the piano and I think when I have my own place then I could start that.” WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT FAVOURITE TV SHOW? “It has to be Love Island at the moment, it’s quite bad to say but I do love the drama and it’s entertaining TV.” WHAT JOB DO YOU THINK YOU WOULD BE GOOD AT? “It would be helping people. I know what I want to do in the future by having my own foundation and help people with mental health, keep raising awareness to show it’s okay to not be okay.” WHAT WAS YOUR INITIATION SONG AT SPURS? “Reach by S Club 7 and I smashed it, sort of!” WHEN WHEN DID YOU LAST COOK AND WHAT WAS IT? “I made quesadillas. I love cooking, so it was pretty simple to make.” WHEN DID YOU LAST GO TO THE CINEMA? “It was with the team about two or three months ago and we went to watch the new Hunger Games. However, I do prefer watching from the comfort of my own home.” WHEN DO YOU WAKE UP ON YOUR DAYS OFF? “It’s the same time as when I have to wake up for training, so about seven o’clock. I don’t get much of a lay-in on our off days as my body clock is telling me to get up.” WHEN DID YOU REALISE YOU MIGHT MAKE IT AS A FOOTBALLER? “I don’t think there was a specific moment, I just went with the flow of football. I had my ups and downs, but I tried to not think to intensely about it all and just allowed it to be whatever happens. I can’t pinpoint a moment where I thought I made it, but when you sign your first professional contract it’s always a proud moment for you and your family.” A SPURS STALWART CELEBRATES AGAINST ARSENAL “when you sign your first professional contract it’s always a proud moment for you and your family”

THFC T H E D A LY C O L U M N 8 1 can play there as well as down the left. Even Manor Solomon, injured since October, has started on the right wing (against Fulham) and left wing (at Burnley). Johnson also plays with a notable intensity, admitting he was “riled up” by Brentford having watched on from the bench, before he came on to score for 2-1. He also bullied the ball away from Joachim Andersen to set up Werner for the recent equaliser against Crystal Palace. And his aggression and energy got Spurs going against Luton. Many of Brennan’s stand-out moments have been as a sub, like those above and his 97th-minute winner against Brighton, but on recent starts against Aston Villa and West Ham he’s scored goals too.  He’ll be hoping to show his boyhood club exactly how far he’s come this evening. rennan Johnson turned a 45-minute cameo against Luton into a star performance – one that highlights the player he is now – and perhaps the one he will become. The 22-year-old’s dynamic running, final ball and work-rate stood out – but how will these attributes, along with his versatility, define his future role at Tottenham Hotspur? He scored in midweek too in the 1-1 draw with West Ham, but let’s start by analysing his impact eight days ago, to help turn around a difficult game. “We felt that in the first half, Deki (Dejan Kulusevski) was probably coming inside a little bit too much,” reflected Ange Postecoglou on his half-time change. “With Brennan’s pace, and he has really good quality delivery and gets in the box, I thought the game was going to be good for him.” The Head Coach wanted his wingers high and wide to stretch Luton. The move paid off. Johnson won’t be statistically credited for the cross that led to Issa Kabore’s own goal, but the lay-off for Heung-Min Son’s winner was his seventh assist of the season. He would have added to his four-goal tally too, were it not for Alfie Doughty’s marginal goalline clearance.  But that desire to get in to the box to meet crosses himself did bring rewards at the London Stadium on Tuesday, getting on the end of Timo Werner’s ball to give us that early lead. Postecoglou has praised Johnson for his ability to “adjust” since a big-money move in the summer, adding, “he’s another one understanding more and more how we want to play.” At Nottingham Forest last season, he was used in a variety of ways, playing on the right of attack in 3-4-3 or 4-3-3 formations, or partnering the likes of Taiwo Awoniyi as one of two strikers in a 4-3-1-2. Even for Wales last month, he scored playing as centre-forward against Finland before manager Rob Page used him on the left against Poland with Kieffer Moore through the middle. A player’s ability to operate in different positions can sometimes mean he’s only used as such – unable to cement a role. But in a Postecoglou squad, versatility seems to be a pivotal attribute for attacking players. Richarlison and Son have both been used wide and as the number 9 this season. Dejan Kulusevski has played centrally and on the right. We’ve only seen Werner as the striker briefly against Wolves, but his time with Chelsea, Leipzig and Germany shows he Our SPURSPLAY commentator ROB DALY gives us the lowdown on the Brennan Johnson effect and how his versatility has become a real asset… W O R D S B Y R O B D A LY B BRENNAN JOHNSON WAS A CONSTANT MENACE AGAINST WEST HAM
