1 …GOAL FESTS AGAINST SOUTHAMPTON
old Second Division in October, 1977, this performance
came somewhat out of the blue towards the end of the
1999/2000 campaign. We’d scored just six goals in our
previous nine games, including a run of four blanks in five,
leading up to this match. However, having trailed twice to
goals from Jo Tessem and Tahar El Khalej in the first half,
Sol Campbell on target for us, we struck ‘goal-d’. Darren
Anderton, Chris Armstrong and Steffen Iversen put us
4-2 up by the break with Armstrong’s lovely dinked finish
making it five at the start of the second half. It was then
left to Iversen to complete his hat-trick, his second and
our sixth from Mauricio Taricco’s cross and our seventh a
control and cool finish after David Ginola’s shot looped to
his direction. We went on to finish 10th that season.
7/2/1993 - Spurs 4-2 Southampton 3
Trailing to Iain Dowie’s first half strike, Teddy Sheringham
buried a header to level matters with 54 minutes on the
clock. Four minutes and 48 seconds later, we were 4-1 up!
In a goal rush, Nick Barmby turned home Teddy’s miscued
volley for 2-1 (56 minutes), Darren Anderton fired home
from close range for 3-1 (57) and Teddy was there again
to strike superbly into the corner from the edge of the
box (59). Jason Dodd made it five goals in 12 minutes as it
ended 4-2. Teddy won the Golden Boot with 22 goals, we
went on to finish eighth.

THFC Robbie Keane, only 24 at the time, had started to click.
Indeed, we’d come off the back of six straight losses in
the Premier League to win five on the trot, including this
fine performance against the Saints at the Lane. JD led
the way with a treble, his first two from Fredi Kanoute
assists, his third following in a shot from Michael Brown.
Kanoute also scored, but Defoe saved his best until last,
a moment of magic to lift the ball over Southampton’s
defenders into the path of Keane to score the fifth. The
team continued to progress under Jol, finished eighth that
season and then just missed out on Champions League
qualification in 2005/06.

20/9/2020 - Southampton 2-5 Spurs
Never has the seemingly telepathic understanding
between Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son been seen to
such devastating effect as this sunny September at St
Mary’s. Harry delivered four assists, all clinically finished
by Sonny. The first and, arguably, most important came
from Harry’s pass from the left touchline into Sonny,
running through centrally, to drill home the equaliser
in first half injury time. We took over from there. Harry
threaded a pass between defenders for Sonny to finish
one-on-one on 47 minutes, and then an almost blind clip
over the top into Sonny’s path for his hat-trick and 3-1
on 64. The pick of the bunch came next as Harry, running
towards the touchline, hooked a pass back over his shoul-
der into Sonny’s path, again, which he finished in style for
4-1 on 73 minutes. Harry tapped home from close range
for 5-1 before Danny Ings scored his second in added time,
a consolation at 5-2.
