ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE SPOTLIGHT
Spurs lost 1-0 against Everton in their opening Newcastle manager Steve Bruce has won eight
league match last season, last losing such of his 20 Premier League encounters with West
matches in consecutive seasons in 2011-12 and Ham (D4 L8), only winning more against Bolton
2012-13. Wanderers in the competition (12).
DEADLY
DEFOE!
Action from our victory over Manchester City
in N17 in April 2013, as Jermain Defoe blasts
home a stunning shot which Vincent Kompany is
unable to block and the ball flies past Joe Hart in
the City goal.
Samir Nasri had given the visitors a fifth-minute
lead and they looked like they were going to hold
out until a quick-fire three-goal blitz turned the
game on its head. Clint Dempsey got us back on
level terms in the 75th minute before Defoe picked
up the ball down our left flank four minutes later,
ran at Kompany and then smashed us into the lead.
And it was 3-1 on 82 minutes when Gareth Bale
struck another goal to put us in control and wrap
up a victory that had seemed unlikely just moments
earlier!

It wasn’t the Aviva, it was Turkey away, at the Antalya

their big games at Old Trafford and
it always looked such an impressive
stadium. Maybe Chelsea too, I always
like playing there as it’s quite narrow,
doesn’t feel that big a pitch and Wolves
had some positive results there.

AWAY
STADIUM
Manchester City for sure, I’ve had
some tough days there although
Wolves did beat them once
3-2. Liverpool away is always a
difficult place to go. But then you’ll be
surprised because places like Fulham
was always a tough trip and when
Huddersfield were in the Premier
League, they only won a few games
and two were against Wolves! Some
of these smaller grounds can get
you too!

DEBUT
This was with Wolves, we won the game,
I scored and got an assist! We were quite
close to each other in the league, so it was
a big game and I remember in the changing
room after, we felt it was a huge win. That
was my first time at this stadium in front
of a full house, unbelievable. Actually, we
arrived quite late and had to go straight
into the changing rooms so we were a bit
annoyed we didn’t get to enjoy the stadium
before the game.
VENUE
OF MOST
IMPORTANT
GAME
It’s a difficult one to define but maybe for
me it might be the game I played for Wolves
here against Tottenham because it was an
important match in terms of me coming to
Spurs. I was always led to believe that it
was one of the games where the manager
thought ‘this is the guy that I want’ and so
that match went a long way towards me
becoming a Spurs player.
