STRIKES AGAIN

Jimmy Greaves does what he does best and drills
home past Chelsea goalkeeper Peter Bonetti
during the 1-1 draw against the Blues at White Hart
Lane in March 1967.

The England striker opened the scoring against
his former club after just 10 minutes of this Division
One clash, his 19th league goal of the 1966/67
campaign. But Chelsea snatched a point in the 70th
minute when Ian Hamilton headed past Pat Jennings
to become the Blues’ youngest-ever goalscorer aged
just 16 years and 138 days – a record he still holds
to this day.

The result was our third successive draw in the
league to leave us a bit off the pace at the top of the
table, but nine wins in our last 10 matches pushed
us up into third place in the final reckoning behind
Nottingham Forest and champions Manchester
United. Chelsea finished ninth, 12 points behind us.
Greavsie ended the campaign with 31 goals in all
competitions.

Ourselves and Chelsea met again two months
later at Wembley Stadium in the 1967 FA Cup Final,
Jimmy Robertson and Frank Saul on target as Bill
Nicholson’s side won the trophy for the fifth time.

to play. My debut was there in the
Premier League. We won 1-0, Harry
Kane scored. It’s very difficult to play
there. When I was at PSG, playing at
Marseille was always a hard game.

My debut was at Juventus, my first start
was at Rochdale and my home debut
was in the replay against Rochdale at
Wembley. My first game at Tottenham
Hotspur Stadium was the opening night,
against Palace. What a night! It was
amazing. For me, it’s very easy to speak
about this stadium, it’s the best I have
seen and have played in.

Of course, that’s the Johan Cruyff Arena,
Amsterdam. Lovely stadium, fantastic
atmosphere, and that game was amazing,
