There are several connections between us and Sporting, both

Lisbon that Eric Dier learned his trade. Coincidentally, there is also
one of our Academy graduates now wearing the green and white of

CATCHING UP WITH...

CATLCCHaIaNnGmcUaePsrWtoeInTrH…

While our Women’s First Team headed to the United States this summer for their
2022 pre-season tour, we were able to catch up with our former player and Academy
graduate CAMERON LANCASTER, who has become something of a star for USL
Championship side Louisville City.

By Liam Carson clubs and Spurs was the only one to say ‘yeah, come in’. After a
two-week trial, I got signed.

was afforded his first team debut for his boyhood club – and
that moment came under the lights at White Hart Lane.

Coming on for the final 12 minutes of our Premier League
game against Wigan Athletic, the striker replaced Emmanuel
Adebayor before enjoying an encouraging cameo in which
he almost opened his scoring account. In stepping onto the
pitch, Cameron admits it was one of the ‘best feelings’ he’s had
in his life, not only because of his lifelong support of the Club,
but also because of the journey he had been on to reach that
moment.

It all began with his father’s enterprise and initiative as, with
Cameron yet to be scouted by the age of 12, he wrote to all of
the London clubs asking for them to take a look at his son’s
ability. Only one replied - and that was Spurs.

From there, it was then the youngster’s drive that pushed
him on. Signing for us after a two-week trial, the forward linked
up with our Academy to take his place in one of our most
talented cohorts. An age group full of promise with the likes
of Harry Kane and Ryan Mason, Cameron faced incredible
competition to reach the first team but, at the age of 19, all of
his years of hard work in the Academy paid off as he was given
his Premier League debut in lilywhite.

“I was playing Sunday League for a team called Oakhill
Tigers. I knew I was a decent player and I thought I’d be getting
scouted sooner rather than later, but it never really happened,”
he recalled of his early footballing memories as we spoke at
the Lynn Family Sports Vision and Training Centre in Louisville.
“My dad, though, was just sending letters into all the London

It was essentially only in England,

about the viability of a European

many of the bigger clubs eligible to

Ultimately the inaugural CWC was
contested by just 10 clubs, with Fior-

the response from the public and

For the tournament’s second

One could look at the arrivals of Ivan
Perišić, Yves Bissouma, Clement Lenglet,
Richarlison, Djed Spence and Fraser Forster
and wonder where they all fit in?

I even had one Spurs supporting friend
say to me: “Bissouma is a great signing, but
who does he get in the team ahead of?”

But I don’t think this is the way Spurs will
look at it anymore.

Yes, if there was a cup final tomorrow,
Antonio Conte would likely have a preferred
XI for that game.

However, with the return of the
Champions League and fixtures every
three or four days in this hectic period until
the World Cup in November, it feels like the
2022/23 campaign is more of a squad game
than ever.

The group feels well balanced, with at
least two players in every position, and
stronger too.

Perišić, for example, is a Champions
League winner. The Croatian played a vital
part in Bayern Munich’s 2020 triumph. In
fact, he faced Spurs that season, and the
one before with Inter.

Lenglet has featured 43 times in the
competition for Sevilla and Barcelona, while
Forster has experience too from his time
