THFCinfluential in a cup run as he was. He scored six goals and made countless opportunities. It was a pleasure to be in the same team as him and for the fans, it must have been incredible to have seen Paul Gascoigne at his absolute best in 1990/91 in a Spurs shirt. How do you reflect on our 3-1 semi-final victory over Arsenal? What a performance it was that day. Arsenal were going for the double that season while we hadn’t been at our best overall. Yet, in that semi-final, we totally outplayed and outfought Arsenal. It was a great day. Gazza’s free-kick still stands as one of the best-ever scored at Wembley. I remember my position when he took that free-kick on the edge of the penalty area. I was being marked by Alan Smith, who is quite tall, so my role was to take Alan Smith away when the ball was en route to goal and create space there. I started my run too late, or Gazza took the free-kick early… however you want to look at it. But ultimately, the ball was flying towards me and, if you look at the video, you can see me duck! I speak to Paul a lot and he often says ‘do you realise, if you hadn’t ducked, that goal might never have happened’. Circumstances seemed to transpire against us in the first half of the 1991 FA Cup Final against Nottingham Forest, as we trailed 0-1 at the break. Four years on from the disappointment of the 1987 final, did you worry it might not be our day again?I never let negative thoughts get in my way when I was playing. I always maintained the belief that we’d win. But certainly, in the first half of that game especially, everything that could have gone against us, went against us. Gazza, our talisman during that cup run, made two silly challenges early on and got himself injured. Stuart Pearce scored from one of the resulting free-kicks. It should never have been a goal. I was stood at the end of the wall and I was pushed to the ground by Lee Glover when the free-kick went in. With VAR today, that goal would have been disallowed. We then had a perfectly good ‘goal’ disallowed for offside. The replay showed Gary Lineker was onside for that. Then Mark Crossley brought Gary down for a penalty. Crossley should have been sent off for that but he wasn’t. And then he got up and saved Gary’s penalty. We’d actually played well in the first half and the key in the second half was to keep playing the same way. In the first 10 minutes of the second period, we got an equaliser through Paul Stewart and then in the extra-time, Des Walker beat me to the ball from a Nayim corner and ended up powering a header into the back of the net. It’s crazy how the world works sometimes. I’d scored an own goal in 1987 and then, as I was looking to score the winning goal in the 1991 final, a player scored an own goal to give us the victory. Finally Gary, what does it mean to you to still have a working relationship with Tottenham Hotspur having retired from playing back in 1998?I think I’m the longest serving employee of the club currently. It’ll be my 44th year this year working for Spurs. That’s a nice record to have. My role as Global Club Ambassador has taken me on many trips abroad and what experiences they have been. In 2025, I went to Indonesia, to Switzerland and to Spain of course for the Europa League Final. I thoroughly enjoy the role and it’s magnificent to still have that direct involvement with the club.“IN THAT SEMI-FINAL, WE TOTALLY OUTPLAYED AND OUTFOUGHT ARSENAL. IT WAS A GREAT DAY.”
5 2THFCFifteen appears to be the magic number when it comes to Spurs and Aston Villa in FA Cup history. Not only have we won the competition 15 times between us – with our eight triumphs to Villa’s seven – but today’s encounter will be our 15th meeting in the world’s most famous domestic cup tournament. On 7 March, 1903, we met Aston Villa in an FA Cup tie for the first time in our history. Villa were an established top-flight Football League club at that time, with five First Division titles to their name. Indeed, they finished runners-up to The Wednesday during the 1902-03 campaign. We plied our trade in the Southern League at the start of the 20th century, famously winning the cup as a non-league team just two years after this Villa encounter.Looking back at FA Cup connections with today’s visitors Aston Villa…VILLANS IN THE CUPA crowd of 24,500 witnessed an exciting third round match between the two sides at White Hart Lane. Goals from David Copeland and Vivian Woodward gave us hope of causing an upset but a brace from Jasper McLuckie and a further strike from George Johnson sent the Villans through to a semi-final meeting with that season’s eventual cup winners, Bury.On three different occasions, we’ve met Villa in consecutive seasons in the FA Cup and this was the first time. On 20 March, 1904, a crowd overflow at White Hart Lane for our second round meeting with Villa caused the match to be abandoned with the visitors leading 1-0 at the time. A replay was scheduled six days later at Villa Park where Jack Jones scored the only goal of the game in our 1-0 victory. Our biggest crowd of the 1919-20 season packed into White Hart Lane on 6 March, 1920, with 52,179 present for our FA Cup fourth round encounter with Villa. An own goal was enough to give the visitors victory and they went on to win the competition that season. Roles were reversed the following season. Jimmy Banks’ goal gave us a fourth round 1-0 win over Villa in N17. We went on to beat Wolves 1-0 in the 1921 final to claim the trophy for the second time in our history. That was the first of four seasons in which we have beaten Aston Villa in the FA Cup and ultimately gone on to win the competition. After Villa won 2-0 in a fifth round match in N17 on 17 February, 1934, we triumphed 2-0 at Villa Park in the fifth round on February 1961 thanks to a strike from Cliff Jones and an own goal from Alan ACTION FROM OUR 1961 TRIUMPH AT VILLA PARK
5 3THFCO’Neill. We famously went on to win the Double that season, beating Leicester City 2-0 in the final while we were also champions of the Football League. The following season we again lifted the FA Cup, with a 3-1 victory in the final against Burnley. Along the way, we once again knocked Villa out of the tournament, this time in the quarter-finals, with Danny Blanchflower and Jones scoring in our 2-0 home win.We triumphed 3-2 in the fifth round at the Lane in February 1969, Jimmy Greaves netting twice and Mike England also on target for us, while Barrie Hole and Peter Broadbent replied for the visitors. A goal from Mark Falco was enough for us to see off Aston Villa in the fifth round of the FA Cup on 13 February, 1982. Yet again, that proved to be an inspiration for us to go on and lift the trophy as we beat QPR in a Wembley replay. We met at the third round stage in 1991-92, playing out a goalless draw in the Midlands before Villa progressed 1-0 in the replay thanks to Dwight Yorke’s winner.Villa were a Championship side when we met in one of our last-ever FA Cup ties at White Hart Lane in the third round in January 2017, when goals from Ben Davies and Heung-Min Son saw us progress, while our last meeting came last term, the Villans winning 2-1 on home soil with Mathys Tel netting a late goal for us.VENUE: VILLA PARKAway from meetings with Aston Villa, we’ve also played no fewer than nine FA Cup matches at Villa Park in which the Villans haven’t been involved! Our seven FA Cup semi-finals at Villa’s stadium have been discussed elsewhere in tonight’s programme, but few people ever mention a couple of second replays which were staged at Villa Park back in the day.Drawn against Blackburn Rovers in the second round of the 1906-07 tournament, Joe Walton scored in a 1-1 draw at Ewood Park before Rovers held us to another 1-1 draw, after extra time, in the replay in N17, with Jimmy Reid netting our goal. That led to another replay, this one at a neutral venue and Villa Park was chosen. Only 18,000 fans turned up to watch us finally break Blackburn’s resistance as we won 2-1 – the two goalscorers in the two previous matches on target for us.History repeated itself in the fifth round in 1934-35 against another Lancashire opponent. Struggling in the First Division that season, we knocked out Manchester City and Newcastle United before facing Division Two Bolton Wanderers. Once again, two 1-1 draws followed with Willie Evans and George Hunt our scorers. And again, Villa Park was the venue for the second replay but this time we couldn’t progress, going down 2-0. BACK-TO-BACKThis evening’s contest sees us face Aston Villa in back-to-back FA Cup ties, having lost to them in the fourth round last season. It’s actually the seventh time we’ve faced the same team in successive FA Cup matches in different seasons, the others being Leicester City (2014-15 and 2015-16), Newcastle United (1998-99 and 1999-2000), Manchester United (1978-79 and 1979-80), Burnley (1961-62 and 1962-63), Preston North End (1899-1900 and 1900-01) and Luton Town (1894-95 and 1895-96).CELEBRATIONS AFTER MARK FALCO'S WINNER IN 1982

Thanks to our partnership with Schneider Electric, we’re giving local children the tools and inspiration to shape that future, especially in energy, sustainability and technology.”The event was the second of its kind following another for 120 schoolchildren that was attended by players from our Academy. The STEM programme aligns with the Club’s commitment to sustainability. 7 5THFCKEY PLAYERLamine Yamal is the youngest player ever to play a senior international for Spain, having made his first international appearance against Georgia on 8 September, 2023 aged just 16 years and 57 days. He scored in a 7-1 win. Yamal was even younger when he made his Barcelona baptism against Real Betis on 29 April, 2023, aged just 15 years, nine months and 16 days at the time. The Esplugues de Llobregat-born player, who will celebrate his 19th birthday on 13 July this year, has since gone on to play over 150 senior competitive matches for club and country.Yamal scored seven goals in 50 appearances in his first full season in the Barça first team in 2023/24. He starred in Spain’s triumph at UEFA Euro 2024, in which he was named Young Player of the Tournament while his strike against France in their semi-final win was voted Goal of the Tournament. The Don Benito-born player was a key contributor to our UEFA Europa League success last season, scoring twice in 13 appearances in the competition. WORLD CUP HISTORYSpain will be making their 17th World Cup finals appearance at this year’s tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico. La Roja first featured at a World Cup finals in 1934, when they reached the quarter-finals of the then-16 team tournament. Their first – and, to date – only World Cup triumph came in South Africa in 2010. After topping Group H, Vicente del Bosque’s team went on to win against Portugal, Paraguay and Germany in the knockout phase before beating the Netherlands 1-0 after extra-time in the final.

Signed from Empoli in June 2023, coincidentally his debut also came at the Gtech Community Stadium in August that year. The Italian international’s century is made up of 81 games in the Premier League, two FA Cup, one League Cup and 16 in Europe.BEN DAVIES…was back in the side and on the scoresheet in last weekend’s game with Sunderland here. Making his first start of the season – and the 361st appearance of his Spurs career – the Welsh defender scored his first goal in over two years in the 1-1 draw. His last came against Brighton in December 2023 and he now has 10 goals for us!

8 1THFCIn a new feature for this season, Billy Shaw catches up with the players to remember the kits they wore on their first appearance for Spurs. Today, young defender Alfie Dorrington recalls his Premier League bow…With all the emphasis on retro-looking kits today, it’s apt that we cast the spotlight on a modern-day strip that served as something of a throwback in its own right.Young defender Alfie Dorrington made his first team debut in a 5-0 thrashing of Southampton in December, 2024, a game in which we wore our light blue away kit from last season.Defined by two-tone stripes in shades of light blue, the shirts were a vivid reminder of some of our iconic away kits from the 1980s, particularly the shadow striped number worn between 1982 and 1985 during a highly-successful period for the club. Subsequent change strips up until 1988 also featured light blue stripes, but they appeared in more of a diagonal form. For Academy product Alfie, the kit obviously carries happy memories.“I remember it well – the light blue one from last season,” said the towering centre-back, whose appearance off the bench in the second half at St Mary’s remains his only competitive first team appearance for us to date.“I really liked the colour. After the game, all the boys signed it, I took it home and got it framed straight away.“I think it was probably the first kit I’d worn with the Spurs logo in the middle of the kit rather than at the side. I wore it a bit for the Under-21s as well – even away to Arsenal when we won 5-2.”Alfie would go on to spend the second half of last season and the first half of the current campaign on loan at Aberdeen and was part of their team that defeated Celtic to lift the Scottish Cup in May. He returned to us this week, having made 30 appearances in all competitions for the Scottish side across his two stints, scoring once.MY DEBUT KITName: Alfie DorringtonPosition: DefenderDebut: Southampton away, Premier League (15 December, 2024)Age on debut: 19Debut kit: 2024/25 away kitIn detail: Featuring two-tone light blue stripes, the shirts from this kit were made all the more distinctive by the placement of the logos. While the Nike swoosh retained its usual spot aligned to one side, the club crest was moved to a central position, just above the logo of main sponsor, AIA. The collar was lined with a darker navy stripe, while the sleeves also featured yellow and white trim at the ends. Light blue shorts and socks rounded off the uniform.Dorrington2024/25
