A New Logo on the Block

FITA has recently announced a new brand and logo for World Archery. Reproduced below is an extract
from the FITA news release:

“Launch of World Archery On the occasion of the Archery

World Cup stage in Antalya (TUR) this week, the International
Archery Federation (FITA) officially launches its new brand and logo
– World Archery. World Archery is a forward-focused brand representing
the sport of archery to both sports enthusiasts and the worldwide market
beyond the archery family. The federation wants the sport of archery to be in
the forefront—a global consumer brand, that promotes archery at every level
with enthusiasm and passion. Represented by the new, dynamic logo, the
World Archery brand unifies all of the activities, events, and members of the
federation under one brand name to be centrally promoted by FITA and its
Continental Associations. The FITA entity and logo remain valid as the producer of this brand. The
World Archery logo will be used at upcoming events such as the Youth, Para-Archery and World
Archery Championships.”

Dear Colleagues

Postal ballot

There was a very poor response from many clubs to this most important ballot. Some clubs worked really hard to get
their ballot papers back, clearly accounted for those missing papers and sent back all the material as required but these
were few and far between. Thank you to the club secretaries who did such a good job.

Many did not bother to even return the form let alone make an effort to collect and return ballot papers.
One of the larger clubs managed to send its papers back nearly 2 weeks after the closing date.

Some people have suggested that the AGM is not a fair way to decide important matters because so few are able to
participate. These people suggested a postal ballot should replace the AGM. Well, with less than 50% return of papers,
a postal ballot does not seem to be the answer either.

There will be the chance for each of you to comment on this as well as other matters in the review of the structure of
Archery New Zealand commencing shortly. Details will be in a separate article for the Archer and web site.

All of the motions were approved and the appropriate parts of the Constitution and Rules will be amended accordingly.
The Board has approved criteria for the acceptance of non-New Zealand archers from overseas. These criteria are:

must be of good character;
able to make a positive contribution to Archery New Zealand;
has never been subject to disciplinary action (including drugs) by own country Association;
agreement to abide by the rules and policy of Archery New Zealand;
must not use the move to Archery New Zealand for any form of political purpose (within archery or

otherwise);
will pay the appropriate affiliation fee and the cost of the overseas posting of The Archer rounded up as

appropriate.
The Board of Archery New Zealand reserves the right to revoke the membership at any time and at its sole

discretion.

The by law which required persons seeking to claim records having to submit their claims within 14 days of the finish
of the tournament, or arriving back in New Zealand if shot overseas, was rejected heavily by those present at the
meeting in Auckland. Those people thought 30 days was fair and the Board indicated if the postal ballot rejected the
original 14-day rule it would be changed to 30 days.
To enable this to happen this particular by law was put as a separate motion [3(b) in the postal ballot]. We are not
allowed to say “Vote against this one” but we did our very best to make that clear. Despite that the by law was
approved by 81 votes to 78 with 2 abstentions. This was the closest margin of any motion the full results of which are
set out below.
So all archers please note, to claim a New Zealand record you must get all the paperwork to the Registrar within 14
days of the tournament finishing or of you arriving back in New Zealand if the tournament was overseas.
This 14-day rule is effective immediately.
This letter is published in the Archer, the Archery New Zealand web site and has been sent to all club secretaries.
Sincerely

Carole A Hicks

National Secretary

Following hard on the heels of Stephen Clifton’s scores of 1403 and 1406 (reported on in the last
issue of this magazine) FITA reports that the Men’s Compound record has just been pushed out a
further massive 5 points. A copy of the news release is published below:

Peter ELZINGA (NED) pushed the mythical barrier of the FITA Round
even further! He set a new world record with 1419 points at an interna-

was held by Roger HOYLE (USA) with 1414 points since 2001. ELZINGA
also beat the world record at 70 meters, scoring close to perfect 358

Pre-winter Madness

Greenwood Archery Club - 16 /17 May, 2009

It may be the end of the outdoor season, but this doesn‟t mean we can‟t shoot outdoors right? On May 16th a
bunch of what some would call “eager” archers turned up to the Greenwood Archery grounds in New Plymouth to
take part in the pre-winter madness. Not a full shooting line unfortunately, but quality over quantity as they say. By
the way what a place to shoot, the Greenwoods shooting ground is worth a mini hike to get to, quite a nice range.

The ranking round for the matchplay was a FITA 70m round, so 72 arrows at 70 metres on a 122cm face. The

shooting got underway and all in all there were no dramas, bar the death of one of Jared Smythe‟s Protours, may

it rest in peace and bring blessings from the archery Greenwood Archer’s FITA 70m
gods unto Jared. 16th & 17th May 2009

I must say that on a personal note, after scoring the DAY 1 DAY 2

to shoot a non-elimination matchplay, meaning that if

you lost a round, you could keep shooting and fight for a non medal position. Due to the limited number of

participants, we shot an open matchplay. This lead to a brilliant piece of negotiation by the only recurver Alex

Ianovski, who managed to get the judges to grant him a 7 point handicap per round. The results for the matchplay

are in the table below.

Due to the smoothness with which the first day went, we were over and done with by 1pm. Well that‟s really early,

so this got the organisers thinking and they proposed running a mixed team matchplay. To which everyone was

keen to take part .Pairs were assigned into teams and we got on with it. Each archer shooting two arrows per end

I would just like to say thank you to the judges Gill and Carole and to the organisers from the Greenwood archery

Congratulations on their engagement
to

Karen & Dennis.

At the Wanganui Archery Club’s Queens Birthday Triple FITA Star Tournament
news of the engagement between Karen Moffat of Mountain Green Archery Club
and Dennis McLeod of Mercury Bay Archery Club was “leaked” to the public. I am
sure that this magazine’s readership will join in wishing the happy couple all the
very best for a long and happy life together.

Dennis told, at his expense, the story of the very early days of the romance. It goes like this:

At a certain two day FITA tournament in Rotorua Dennis finally plucked up enough courage to ask
Karen out on a date, so at the end of the first day he walked over to where she had parked her car.
He was full of confidence and anticipation, but as he got nearer Karen‟s car appeared in front of
him and he had to take evasive action so as not to get run over.
Karen was obviously still going over the days shooting in her mind and hadn't noticed a thing.

At that point Dennis realised two things, firstly he wasn't going to get to ask her out that time, and
secondly this woman was always going to keep him on his toes, literally!!!
