Letter from the CEO

Good evening!

Summer doesn’t seem to be slowing Conroe down! Last week our new chief operating officer,
Jerrica George, joined our team and she is already doing great things for our hospital. Make sure
you say hello and introduce yourself when you see her around the hospital.

We have some awesome things planned for the rest of this month, including debuting the first of our
new “HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe” signs. I am excited to share more information on how we’re
celebrating that with you very soon!

We’re also going to have our next Power of One Awards ceremony, and next week, our summer
2019 Junior Volunteers are joining us. Please welcome the Junior Volunteers to our Conroe family
and help them if they are working in your unit and need any assistance.

Try to stay cool this week in the heat!
Matt

HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe Awarded ‘A’ for Patient Safety

Press release shared May 2019

Conroe, TX — HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe was awarded an 'A' from The Leapfrog Group's spring 2019 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade. The
designation recognizes HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe's efforts in protecting patients from harm and providing safer health care. The Leapfrog
Group is a national nonprofit organization committed to improving health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers. The Safety Grade
assigns an 'A', 'B', 'C', 'D' or 'F' grade to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents,
infections and other harms to patients in their care.

"Receiving an 'A' for patient safety for the second consecutive grading period is a result of all that our nurses, physicians and healthcare
professionals do on a daily basis to make sure our patients are safe and secure while they're in our care," said Matt Davis, CEO of HCA Houston
Healthcare Conroe. "This is a true testament to the mission of our hospital, 'Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of
human life.'"

"To be recognized nationally as an 'A' hospital is an accomplishment the whole community should take pride in," said Leah Binder, president and
CEO of The Leapfrog Group. "Hospitals that earn an 'A' grade are making it a priority to protect patients from preventable medical harm and error.
We congratulate hospital leaders, board members, staff, volunteers and clinicians who work so hard to earn this A."

Developed under the guidance of a national Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety
data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade's methodology is peer-reviewed and
fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.

HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe was awarded an 'A' grade when Leapfrog announced grades for the spring 2019 update on May 15. To see HCA
Houston Healthcare Conroe's full grade details, and to access patient tips for staying safe in the hospital, visit The Leapfrog Group's Hospital Safety
Grade website and follow The Leapfrog Group on Twitter and Facebook.

About The Leapfrog Group
Founded in 2000 by large employers and other purchasers, The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization driving a movement for giant
leaps forward in the quality and safety of American health care. The flagship Leapfrog Hospital Survey collects and transparently reports hospital
performance, empowering purchasers to find the highest-value care and giving consumers the lifesaving information they need to make informed
decisions. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, Leapfrog's other main initiative, assigns letter grades to hospitals based on their record of patient
safety, helping consumers protect themselves and their families from errors, injuries, accidents and infections.

HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe in top 5 percent for patient safety

Press release shared May 2019

Conroe, TX — HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe announces that it is a recipient of the Healthgrades 2019 Patient Safety Excellence Award™. This distinction places
HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe among the top 5% of all short-term acute care hospitals reporting patient safety data as evaluated by Healthgrades, the
leading online resource for information about physicians and hospitals.

During the study period (2015 to 2017), Healthgrades 2019 Patient Safety Excellence Award recipient hospitals demonstrated excellent performance in safety
provided for patients in the Medicare population, as measured by objective outcomes (risk-adjusted patient safety indicator rates) for 14 patient safety indicators
defined by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).

Healthgrades found that patients treated in hospitals receiving the Patient Safety Excellence Award were, as compared to patients at non-recipients hospitals, on
average*:

55.9 percent less likely to experience an accidental cut, puncture, perforation or hemorrhage during medical care.
50.9 percent less likely to experience a collapsed lung due to a procedure or surgery in or around the chest.
64.4 percent less likely to experience pressure sores or bed sores acquired in the hospital.
57 percent less likely to experience catheter-related bloodstream infections acquired at the hospital.

In addition, if all hospitals in the country performed at the level of award recipients for each of the 14 Patient Safety Indicators, 127,667 patient safety events could
have been avoided.*

"Patient safety is paramount to our patients' wellbeing and vital in our overall role as caregivers," said Matt Davis, CEO, HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe. "The 2019
Patient Safety Excellence Award™ is a testament to the amazing work our team does every day to ensure Montgomery County residents receive the safest care
possible, close to home."

"We are proud to recognize the recipients of the 2019 Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award, which shines a spotlight on the hospitals that are preventing
the occurrence of serious, potentially avoidable complications, for patients during their hospital stay," said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer,
Healthgrades. "We applaud these hospitals and their commitment to providing the best possible care for every patient."

HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe has implemented best-practice quality initiatives to protect our patients. These efforts include optimization programs to wean
patients off mechanical support, frequent meetings on patient-floors to address any potential barriers, equipment upgrades, and the use of statistical tools to
determine potential risk factors before they could affect care. In addition to the 2019 Patient Safety Excellence Award™, HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe has
achieved an 'A' in Patient Safety by the Leapfrog group for two consecutive grading periods.

*Statistics are calculated from Healthgrades Patient Safety Ratings and Excellence Award methodology, which is based primarily on AHRQ technical
specifications (Version 5e and 2018) to MedPAR data for years 2015 through 2017 and represent 3-year estimates for Medicare patients only.

IT&S Message: “Be Safe in Parking Lots”

As the weather turns warmer and the day gets longer, you may want to soak up the sun as you stroll to your destination.
Information Protection & Security wants you to stay safe and alert, especially when in a parking lot!
What to Know, What to Do
If you see something suspicious, say something! No matter where you are or what you’re doing, if something seems odd – tell
someone. At work, you can report it to local security or via the LiveSafe app on your phone (if applicable), or tell your
supervisor.
 Pay attention when walking to and from your vehicle. Parking lots are an easy place for criminals to hide.

– Put your phone down. Even a “hands-free” phone call can distract you.
– Take your earbuds out. You may not be able to hear a honk or a shout, and people may not be able to tell you’re wearing earbuds.
– Move with purpose directly to your vehicle.

 Be a cautious driver. Slow down and watch for pedestrians.
 Park smart.

– Park in a well-lit area. Even if you’re arriving during the day, you may leave later than anticipated and the light is a deterrent to criminals.
– If you see someone suspicious in a parking lot or garage, don’t park your car – go elsewhere.

 Lock your doors. Always lock your car after you park. It’s a good idea to keep it locked while driving, too.
 Remove all valuables before you get to your destination. For example, if you’re leaving the hospital and heading straight to

dinner, put your computer bag in your trunk before leaving work. Never leave your computer, phone, or other high-dollar
item on display in an unattended car – even when parked at your own home.
 Subscribe to The Shield blog to get the latest Information Protection & Security news and tips straight to your inbox.
