주님은 나의 최고봉

- 주님은 나의 최고봉 5일차 -
“자신을 포기할 때 성령을 받습니다”

“내가 가는 곳에 네가 지금은 따라 올 수 없으나 후에는
따라 오리라”(요13:36)

“이 말씀을 하시고 베드로에게 이
르시되 나를 따르라 하시니”(요
21:19). 3년 전에도 예수님께서 이
말씀을 하셨습니다. “나를 따라오너
라” 이때 베드로는 예수님을 쉽게 따
라갈 수 있었습니다. 예수 그리스도의
매력이 그를 사로잡았기 때문입니다.
이때 베드로가 주를 따르는 데 성령
의 도움은 필요하지 않았습니다.

The Life of Power to Follow
Jesus answered him, "Where I am going
you cannot follow Me now, but you shall

follow Me afterward." —John 13:36

“And when He had spoken this,
He said to him, ‘Follow Me’ ”
(John 21:19). Three years earlier
Jesus had said, “Follow Me”
(Matthew 4:19), and Peter
followed with no hesitation. The
irresistible attraction of Jesus was
upon him and he did not need the
Holy Spirit to help him do it.

그 후 베드로는 예수님을 부인하게
되었고 그의 마음은 찢겨졌습니다. 그
가 성령을 받은 후 예수님은 다시 말
씀하십니다. “나를 따라오너라” 이제
베드로 앞에는 주 예수 그리스도 외
에 아무도 보이지 않습니다. 처음 “따
라오라”는 말씀은 신비한 의미가 담
겨 있지 않은 단순한 외적 부르심이
었습니다. 그러나 지금 “따라오라”는
말씀에는 자신의 자아를 죽여야 하는
내적 순교의 의미가 있습니다.

Later he came to the place where
he denied Jesus, and his heart
broke. Then he received the Holy
Spirit and Jesus said again, “Follow
Me” (John 21:19). Now no one is
in front of Peter except the Lord
Jesus Christ. The first “Follow Me”
was nothing mysterious; it was an
external following. Jesus is now
asking for an internal sacrifice and
yielding (see John 21:18).

이 두 부르심의 사이에는 베드로가
저주 및 맹세로 예수 그리스도를 부
인하는 사건이 있었습니다. 이 사건으
로 베드로는 결국 자신에 대해 포기
하게 되었고 자신 안에는 의지할 것
이 없음을 발견했습니다. 그리고 절망
가운데서, 부활하신 주님으로부터 능
력을 받기에 합당한 상태가 되었습니
다.

Between these two times Peter
denied Jesus with oaths and curses
(see Matthew 26:69-75). But then
he came completely to the end of
himself and all of his
self-sufficiency. There was no part
of himself he would ever rely on
again. In his state of destitution, he
was finally ready to receive all that
the risen Lord had for him.

“그들을 향하사 숨을 내쉬며 이르시
되 성령을 받으라”(요20:22), 주님께
서 당신 안에 어떤 변화를 만드시든
결코 변화 자체를 의지하지 말고 오
직 한분 예수 그리스도, 그리고 그분
이 보내신 성령님만 의지하십시오.

우리의 모든 맹세와 결심은 결국 실
패하게 됩니다. 왜냐하면 우리에게는
그것을 수행할 만한 능력이 없기 때
문입니다.

“…He breathed on them, and said
to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit’ ”
(John 20:22). No matter what
changes God has performed in you,
never rely on them. Build only on
a Person, the Lord Jesus Christ,
and on the Spirit He gives.

All our promises and resolutions
end in denial because we have no
power to accomplish them.

생각에 그치지 않고 실제로 우리 자
신을 내려 놓을 때, 우리는 성령의
인도를 받아들일 수 있게 됩니다. “성
령을 받으라”는 의미는 성령님의 여
러분을 향한 침입이고 다스리심입니
다. 성령이 여러분 안에 계시면 인생
에는 중요한 한 가지 지표가 생깁니
다. 그것은 바로 주 예수 그리스도입
니다.

When we come to the end of
ourselves, not just mentally but
completely, we are able to “receive
the Holy Spirit.” “Receive the Holy
Spirit” — the idea is that of
invasion. There is now only One
who directs the course of your life,
the Lord Jesus Christ.
