Ecosystem diversity is one of the three types of biodiversity. Briefly explain on the ecosystem diversity and give THREE examples of terrestrial ecosystems. 01
Ecosystem Diversity : ➢ Refers to the big variety of environments produce by the interplay of the living (animals and plants) and non-living world (earth forms, soil, rocks and water). Tundra Tropical rainforests Deserts THREE examples of terrestrial ecosystems
Construct a food chain which consists of FOUR trophic levels based on your own observation on a grass field ecosystem in KMPP. 02 03 For the above food chain, classify the organisms at every trophic level into taxonomic groups of domain, kingdom, phylum, and genus/species. Identify at least ONE unique characteristic of each organism.
Food Chain of Grass Field Ecosystem Producer Primary consumer Secondary consumer Tertiary consumer Domain : Eukaryote Kingdom : Plantae Phylum : Magnoliophyta Species : Epipremnum Aureum Domain : Eukaryote Kingdom : Animalia Phylum : Arthropoda Species : Papilio polyxenes Domain : Eukaryote Kingdom : Animalia Phylum : Chordata Species : Felis catus Domain : Eukaryote Kingdom : Animalia Phylum : Chordata Species : Acridotheres tristis
04 A food web may create a more stable grass field ecosystem. Explain on this statement with a possible example of food web (which consists of 3-5 food chains) for the grass field ecosystem (provide also a diagram of the food web).
✓ Each organism is eaten by the other organism and then those organisms are eaten by several other organisms, these series of organisms where one is dependent for food on another is called the food web. ✓ For example, in the grass field ecosystem, red oat grass (producer) is eaten by the grasshopper (primary consumer), and it will be eaten by the wildebeest (secondary consumer) and finally it will then be eaten by the hyena (tertiary consumer). The food web is a network of food chains in an ecosystem where all organisms are interconnected to each other. ✓ The flow of energy in a food web is always unidirectional. In a food web, the supplies of food never end. Therefore, food web create a more stable ecosystem.
Explain the effects of herbicides on the grass field ecosystem. Suggest ways to prevent this environmental issue 05
Effects of herbicides on the grass field ecosystem : The most direct effects of herbicide pollution are decreased condition, growth, and reproduction of plants. For example, exposure to herbicides may lead to elevated internal herbicide concentrations and decreased photosynthesis, cell division, and amino acid production in plants. The decrease in abundance and richness of plants might lead to shortage of producer in an ecosystem. As a result, the relative abundances of invertebrate feeding groups may shift. Thus, the grass field ecosystem will be affected. Ways to prevent this environmental issue : ● Plant more herbicide-resistant plants ● Reduce usage of herbicide ● Replace disposable items with reusable
“ The diversity of life is biodiversity, a simple solution is less polluting ” THANK YOU!
