My Winnipeg By Hiu Wai May Tang

When I stepped outside, the whole world
smelled like a new empty refrigerator. Yes, this is winter
in Winnipeg.

Before I came here, I had a picture pop up in my
mind, a bear hunting salmon in the Red River’s Salmon
run. Well, of course this is not going to happen in fact.
But, it is true that the winter here is chilly, which is why
people have called it, “Winterpeg”.

In winter, people love to stay indoors to avoid
over-exposure in the extremely low temperature. But I
would recommend a place to go and where we better go
in the winter: the Assiniboine Park Zoo. There are a lot
of different animals. The highlight of the zoo is the polar
bears and they are at their most active in winter. Don’t
be surprised if you find an opportunity to sit in a polar
bear view restaurant. When you’re there, you can see
every movement they make. I would definitely go there
again.

One more thing I have to mention is the people
here are super nice, friendly, kind, and helpful. This
brightens up my life. Thanks for everything! Thanks
Winnipeg!

A Trip to the CMHR By Fan (Steven) Zhi

One day, I took a trip to the Canadian Museum for
Human Rights. It was quite a meaningful journey. At the
beginning of visiting, there was a statement, which is believed
to be the essence of the museum’s spirit: “all human beings are
born free and equal in dignity and rights.”

Throughout the whole tour, the part where I can
participate in the judgment of some typical cases might be the
most impressive one for me. There are about 10 screens laid
out in a circle, where I can give “Yes” or “No” to the question in
my opinion and compare the result with the supreme court
judgment. These judgments could be controversial among the
public, just like the right to die, freely speak, and wearing a
religious outfit.

In a word, at this solemn museum, people can explore
and reflect on human rights in Canada and around the world. It
is absolutely a place worth visiting more than once.

The Forks—A Must See! ByPui Wah (Sara) Ko

The Forks is a famous attraction in Winnipeg
that is located south of downtown. Included are The
Forks National Historic Site, The Forks Market, The Chil-
dren’s Museum and all of them have their own
characteristics. Everyone will definitely enjoy it.

Many famous restaurants are located in The
Forks Market such as The Original Pancake House,
Danny’s All Day Breakfast, as well as Nuburger. Every
tourist may find their favourite cuisine.

I recommend Nuburger personally since it is
delicious and the price is reasonable. They also
provide a lot of choices for the customers. For exam-
ple, they have a traditional beef burger, a chicken burg-
er and a burger with plenty of vegetables and everyone
may find their own favourite. I hope all the visitors will
enjoy their stay in Winnipeg.

What Will Happen to My Hometown
in the Future? By Xiang (Harry) Li

Shenyang is my hometown. It located in northeast China. I truly feel
my hometown will have great changes in the future. First of all, the traffic
will not be crowded. I believe my hometown will build more subway routes
and increase a lot of bus stations, so people can take public traffic to go
anywhere. Also, the government will build several new highways to
decrease traffic jams.

Secondly, the environment of my hometown will be clean because if
the public traffic is very convenient, then people usually take it, so gas

emissions will decrease. Then air quality will be better. Also, people realize

that they must protect forests and plant more trees because the trees can
absorb Co2.

Thirdly, I really think my hometown will be a technology city. For
example, it will have a lot of smart communities. When people get home,
they use facial or voice recognition to open the door.
