STUDENTS’ CHAPTER

“Western Thanksgiving”

On Thanksgiving, we eat dinner consists
of a juicy roasted turkey with a side of
fluffy mash potatoes, tart cranberry
sauce, delicious stuffing, and sweet
pumpkin pie. Christians go to church,
worship the Lord, and thank him for all
the great things he has given us. People
also go to charity services and service
those who need more help. Another
American Thanksgiving tradition is to
gather and watch football with friends and
family or go to a Thanksgiving parade.

“Korean Thanksgiving”

November 18th is the Thanksgiving day in
Korea! During the Thanksgiving, the
families gather: mothers make food and
fathers buy fruits. We share the food that
our moms cooked and share special food
such as Song-pyun ( ), Tteok-gguk (

) and fruits. Everyone, especially the
children, enjoys meeting cousins and
variety of delicious food. For The Christian
families, they gather to go to church to give
thanks to God for what He had been
providing for them throughout the year.

In the Fall Semester, Class 6 students (8th graders) studied Korean history from "the late Joseon
Dynasty to the Japanese occupation period." Especially, memorable was a group viewing of the movie
"The Last Princess," the only daughter of Gojong, the 26th king of Joseon Dynasty. This proved to be
valuable lesson on Korean history and the importance of sovereignty. After the movie, the students were
divided into two groups to discuss what they learned. Both groups agreed that the long-forgotten pain of
losing a nation must be remembered and the love for one's country must be preserved.
