Kaichirō, a businessman whose career included being president of the Tōbu Railway Co., Ltd., was born in Yamanashi and became interested in art early in life. Upon moving to Tokyo in 1898, he displayed his abilities as a businessman and politician and expanded his field of activities to include education as well. Becoming an enthusiastic practitioner of the “way of tea” further spurred his enthusiasm for collecting, and his daring, bold approach became almost legendary. Moreover, Kaichirō did not view his collection as a private treasure trove but wish to share its enjoyment with the general public. After Kaichirō’s sudden death, his son and heir, Kaichirō Jr., established a foundation to preserve the collection in 1940 and, in 1941, opened the Nezu Museum in its current location, which had been the site of the Nezu family residence. A great part of it, including the galleries, garden, and tea house, were lost to fire in 1945 during World War II, but the museum resumed holding exhibitions in 1946 with works of art that had been evacuated to a safer location during the war. Kaichirō Jr. worked to improve the museum’s facilities, expanding them in 1964 and renovating and expanding the museum further in 1991, to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of its founding. Under the leadership of Nezu Kōichi, the son of Kaichirō Jr. and the current director of the museum, a major new construction project in 2006 was undertaken. In over three and a half years, the museum reconstructed what had been the New Building as a seismically isolated storage building, demolished three quite elderly Japanese-style storehouses and the former Main Building, and built a new Main Building for exhibitions(the Main Building). The museum's collection, which was quite large at its start, with 4,642 works, also expanded, to approximately 7,400 works. These include seven National Treasures, 88 Important Cultural Properties, and 94 Important Art Objects. The majority of the collection is the result of Kaichirō Sr.'s ardent acquisition, beginning in his twenties, of superb pre-modern art. He was unusual among private collectors in gathering works in a wide range of genres, including painting, calligraphy, sculpture, metalwork, ceramics, lacquerware, wooden and bamboo craft, textiles, armor, and archaeological specimens. In his later years, he adopted Seizan as his tea name and collected tea wares to enjoy during the tea ceremony; those works are a major pillar of the collection. In addition to purchases made after Kaichirō Sr. passed away, the collection includes many works donated by generous private individuals, in a demonstration of their great trust in this museum. Those purchased and donated works have further enhanced this compelling collection. You will then visit the Mori Tower – Tokyo City View The Mori Tower Roppongi is a district in Tokyo well known for its nightlife district, offering a large number of foreignerfriendly, restaurants. The appearance of several art museums developed and gave Roppongi a reputation as a cultural center. At the center of Roppongi Hills stands the 238 meters tall Mori Tower, opened in 2003. It’s one of the tallest buildingsin the city. Mori Tower building is mostly occupied by office space, but the first few floors have restaurants and shops, and the top few floors house an observation deck with a view of Tokyo City and Mori Art Museum, which are both open to the public. Roppongi Hills is the example of a city within a city. The Tokyo City View observation deck is one of Tokyo's best. When the weather permits, views can also be enjoyed from an open-air deck on the rooftop. Other areas of interest include the Mori Garden and large Toho Cinemas movie theater that offers both Japanese and international movies. Since opening the Museum has received high critical acclaim for its wide variety of original exhibitions, many of which have been organized around universal themes. The work will be continued to bridge the best art of our times and Tokyo’s many residents and visitors. After a long but fascinating day your driver will take you to a local restaurant for dinner before heading back to your hotel for your overnight stay. Day Three -18 October 2023 After enjoying breakfast at your hotel you will embark on another day of very interesting sightseeing and activities. Your first visit will be Sensōji, (also known as Asakusa Kannon Temple). Sensōji is a Buddhist temple located in Asakusa. It is one of Tokyo's most colorful and populartemples. The legend says that in the year 628, two brothers fished a statue of Kannon, the goddess of mercy, out of the Sumida River, and even though they put the statue back into the river, it always returned to them. Consequently, Sensoji was built nearby for the goddess of Kannon. The temple was completed in 645, making it Tokyo's oldest temple. When approaching the temple, visitors first enter through the Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate), the outer gate of Sensoji Temple and the symbol of Asakusa and the entire city of Tokyo. A shopping street of over 200 meters, called Nakamise, leads from the outer gate to the temple's second gate, the Hozomon. Alongside typical Japanese souvenirs such as yukata and folding fans, various traditional local snacks from the Asakusa area are sold along the Nakamise. The shopping street has a history of several centuries. Beyond the Hozomon Gate stands the temple's main hall and a five storied pagoda. Destroyed in the war, the buildings are relatively recent reconstructions. The Asakusa Shrine, built in the year 1649 by Tokugawa Iemitsu, stands only a few dozen meters to the left of the temple's main building. Various events are held throughout the year in the Sensoji Temple area. The biggest of them is the Sanja Matsuri, the annual festival of the Asakusa Shrine, held in May. Other events are the Asakusa Samba Carnival in August and the Hagoita-ichi (Hagoita Market) at which decorated wooden paddles used in the traditional game of hanetsuki are sold. You will then head to the Nakamise District Nakamise dori is the road in Asakusa that leads to the Sensoji temple. This shopping street is one of the oldest centers for shopping in Japan, and is very popular for buying souvenirs. Since shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu established the shogunate in Edo, the population grew fast. The number of visitors to the Sensoji Temple rose with it, and Nakamise started to cater to all these visitors. The Early Days in Edo In 1688 – 1735, the temple’s neighbors welcomed and served visitors to the Sensoji Temple. Because of this help, they received the special right to open their shops in the approach to the temple. This was said to be the beginning of Nakamise. In the Edo period, the 20 tea houses located between the Demoing and Niousan-side were called Yakudana. The shops located near the Kaminari-mon that sold toys, sweets, snacks, and souvenirs on the other hand were called Hiramise. The number of shops increased, and it became one of the best-ordered temple towns in Japan. During the political change of the Meiji Restoration, lands that belonged to temples were taken by the new government. At this time, Sensoji’s land came under the control of the Tokyo metropolitan government. The government made five parks and made laws for the parks that made it impossible for the Nakamise merchants to do business. In May 1885, the Tokyo metropolitan government ordered the Nakamise merchants to leave. Then in December, the Nakamise was rebuilt in western-style brick stores. It was at that time that modern Nakamise was born. After the Modernization The redbrick Nakamise with the atmosphere of the Meiji Era’s culture was destroyed by the Great Earthquake of 1923. In 1925, it was rebuilt in the Momoyama-style using concrete. This gave Nakamise a vermilion-lacquered appearance that made the shopping center very beautiful. Although all its interiors were destroyed again in WW2, the local people of Nakamise worked very hard to rebuild it again after the war. In Fall 1985, the electric signboards and paving stones were renewed and various events were held to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its founding. In April 1992, under the advice of Prof. Ikuo Hirayama, Tokyo Art University, pictures of Asakusa scenes were painted on all the front shutters of Nakamise, making it a very colorful area even after the shops close at nightfall. The beauty of the integrated electrical signs and the seasonal decorations against the stone pavement plus the variety of products and the original design of the market delights international and local visitors. You will then head to the Tokyo National Museum. The Tokyo National Museum or TNM is an art museum in Ueno Park in the Taitō ward of Tokyo. It is one of the four museums operated by the National Institutes for Cultural Heritage and is considered the oldest and largest national museum in Japan. The museum collects, preserves, and displays a comprehensive collection of artwork and cultural objects from Asia, with a focus on ancient and medieval Japanese art and Asian art along the Silk Road. There is also a large collection of Greco-Buddhist art. The museum holds over 110,000 Cultural Properties, including 89 National Treasures of Japan, 319 Horyuji Treasures, and 644 Important Cultural Properties. As of 2022, there were 902 arts and crafts designated national treasures by the Japanese government, meaning the Tokyo National Museum has about 10% of the art and crafts designated national treasures of Japan. In addition, the museum houses over 3000 Cultural Properties deposited by individuals and organizations, including 55 national treasures and 253 important cultural properties (as of March 2019).The museum also conducts research and organizes educational events related to its collection. The facilities consist of the Honkan, holding the Japanese Gallery; the Heiseikan and Hyokeikan, holding special exhibitions; the Toyokan, holding the Asian Gallery; the Gallery of Horyuji Treasures, holding important relics originally preserved at Nara's Horyu Temple; the Kuroda Memorial Hall, holding a collection of works by Kuroda Seiki; and the Research and Information Center. There are restaurants and shops within the museum's premises, as well as outdoor exhibitions (including the Kuromon) and a garden where visitors can enjoy seasonal views. The Tokyo National Museum is one of four museums operated by the National Institutes for Cultural Heritage. Kyoto National Museum, Nara National Museum, and Kyushu National Museum are museums other than Tokyo. The Tokyo National Museum is a representative museum that comprehensively exhibits Japanese cultural assets, but other national museums are more complete in specific areas, such as cultural assets from the Meiji era in the 1800s to the present. The Independent Administrative Institution National Museum of Art, operates seven museums specializing in specific fields, including those focusing on modern art and Japanese crafts and those focusing on Western art. Two museums managed by the National Institutes for the Humanities focus on folklore. The Museum of the Imperial Collections, managed by the Imperial Household Agency, focuses on cultural assets donated to the nation by the Japanese imperial family. After a very interesting time at the Museum you will enjoy Lunch and then head to Akihabara PO Box 487493|Office 306 Tiffany Towers| Cluster W Jumeirah Lake Towers| Dubai| UAE Office +971 4 4206965|Facsimile +971 4 4204715| Mobile +971 55 330 7306 [email protected]| www.premiumchoicetravel.com
Akihabara gained the nickname Akihabara Electric Town shortly after World War II for being a major shopping center for household electronic goods and the post-war black market. Akihabara is considered by many to be the center of modern Japanese popular culture and a major shopping district for video games, anime, manga, electronics and computer-related goods. Icons from popular anime and manga are displayed prominently in the shops in the area, and numerous cafés and some arcades are found throughout the district. The main area of Akihabara is located on a street just west of Akihabara Station, where most of the major shops are situated. Most of the electronics shops are just west of the station, and the anime and manga shops and the cosplay cafés are north of them. After browsing the many stores in this very popular area you will move on to the Imperial Palace. The Imperial Palace is located on the former site of Edo Castle, a large park area surrounded by moats and massive stone walls in the center of Tokyo, a short walk from Tokyo Station. It is the residence of Japan's Imperial Family. Edo Castle used to be the seat of the Tokugawa shogun who ruled Japan from 1603 until 1867. In 1868, the shogunate was overthrown, and the country's capital and imperial residence were moved from Kyoto to Tokyo. In 1888 construction of a new Imperial Palace was completed. The palace was once destroyed during World War Two, and rebuilt in the same style, afterwards. From Kokyo Gaien, the large plaza in front of the Imperial Palace, visitors can view the Nijubashi, two bridges that form an entrance to the inner palace grounds. The stone bridge in front is called Meganebashi (Eyeglass Bridge) for its looks. The bridge in the back was formerly a wooden bridge with two levels, from which the name Nijubashi (Double Bridge) is derived. The inner grounds of the palace are generally not open to the public. Only on January 2 (New Year's Greeting) and February 23 (Emperor's Birthday), visitors are able to enter the inner palace grounds and see the members of the Imperial Family, who make several public appearances on a balcony. After your visit here you will meet your coach and driver and enjoy dinner at a local Japanese restaurant before heading back to your hotel. Day four- 19 October 2023 Today is another fun and interesting day with an Ashi Cruise, viewing of Mount Fuji and your transfer to Kyoto on the world famous Bullet Train. You will leave you main luggage at your hotel as it will be delivered separately to Kyoto. You may take some hand luggage with essential items for the day. Your day will start after breakfast when you embark on a Lake Ashi Cruise. A cruise on Lake Ashi provides a beautiful view of the lake, a lake formed in the caldera of Mount Hakone after the volcano’s last eruption 3,000 years ago. Today, Lake Ashi is often pictured with Mount Fuji in the background as a symbol of Hakone. The best views of the lake in combination with Mt. Fuji can be enjoyed from Moto-Hakone, Hakone Detached Palace Garden, and from sightseeing boats cruising the lake. Colder seasons and early mornings and late evenings often provide better views of the mountain. A boat cruise from one end of the lake to the other takes roughly 30 minutes. At the northern end of the lake, the Hayakawa River runs through Miyanoshita. You will then experience the amazing Hakone Ropeway with a view of Mt Fuji PO Box 487493|Office 306 Tiffany Towers| Cluster W Jumeirah Lake Towers| Dubai| UAE Office +971 4 4206965|Facsimile +971 4 4204715| Mobile +971 55 330 7306 [email protected]| www.premiumchoicetravel.com
The Hakone Ropeway is a main form of transportation in the Hakone area. Hakone is a large area with more than 7 distinct villages. Each area has a special history, culture, and activities. To connect you with all of these wonderful places there are many forms of transportation to use. In Hakone there are buses, boats, cable cars, and ropeways. The Hakone ropeway is one of two ropeways, the other being the Komagatake Ropeway heading to the top of Mt. Kamiyama. The Hakone Ropeway has been acknowledged by the Guinness Book of World Records as the most ridden ropeway in the world. People use the ropeway to visit the steaming vents of Owakudani and travel between Gora and Togendai on Lake Ashi. The Hakone Ropeway runs between Soun Station in Gora to Togendai Station on the shores of Lake Ashi. Along the way there are three stops and a ropeway car change at Owakudani. Owakudani is a geological marvel and one of the highlights for any visit to Hakone. Japan is one of the most geologically active countries in the world and Owakudani is an example of the power and beauty of the earth. The steaming vents are impressive and seen in very few other places around the world. The mountain side seems stripped of vegetation, leaving the bare earth exposed for us to see. When you get off the cable car you will smell the sulfur and see the steam climbing into the sky. From the Ropeway you will experience another amazing view of Mt Fuji. You will enjoy lunch at a Japanese restaurant before heading to Owakudani Owakudani is one of most famous viewpoints in Hakone, where you can observe the intense volcanic activity from close up. It is said that this place came to be thanks to a phreatic eruption and pyroclastic flow that occurred almost 3000 years ago. The peculiar sulfur smell that spreads throughout the area was the reason behind its second name from the past, Jigokudani Hell Valley. You will then head to Hakone Open Air Museum The Hakone Open Air Museum is an outdoor museum dedicated to a world class display of sculptures in a serene, beautiful and natural surroundings. The Picasso Pavilion within the museum houses a wide and varied collection of art by the famous artist. After these two fascinating visits you will enjoy lunch at a local Japanese restaurant before heading to the Kiyomizu Temple. Kiyomizu is located on the foothills of Mount Otowa, part of the Higashiyama mountain range that dominates eastern Kyoto. The main hall has a large veranda, supported by tall pillars, that juts out over the hillside and offers impressive views of the city. Large verandas and main halls were constructed at many popularsites during the Edo period to accommodate large numbers of pilgrims. Beneath the main hall is the Otowa waterfall, where three channels of water fall into a pond. Visitors can catch and drink the water, which is believed to have wish-granting powers. Kiyomizu-dera was founded in the early Heian period. By 778, it was owned by the Buddhist Kita-Hosso sect under Enchin Shonin. He was a priest from Nara (capital of Japan from 710 to 784), who received a vision to construct the temple next to the Otowa spring. In 798, the shogun Sakanoue Tamuramaro, improved the site by including a large hall that was reassembled from the palace of Emperor Kammu (r. 781–806). The emperor left Nara due to the strong influence that the Buddhist monasteries had on the government there. During this period there was a strong rivalry between the Kofuku-ji and the Kiyomizu-dera temples and both had strong influences around the region. The temple's present buildings were constructed in 1633, ordered built by Tokugawa Iemitsu. There is not a single nail used in the entire structure. It takes its name from the waterfall within the complex, which runs off the nearby hills. Kiyomizu means clear water, or pure water. It was originally affiliated with the old and influential Hossō sect dating from Nara times. However, in 1965 it severed that affiliation, and its present custodians call themselves members of the "Kitahossō" sect. The popular expression "to jump off the stage at Kiyomizu" is the Japanese translation of the English expression "to take the plunge". This refers to an Edo-period tradition that held that if one were to survive a 13-meter (43-foot) jump from the stage, one's wish would be granted. During the Edo period, 234 jumps were recorded, and of those, 85.4% survived. The practice was prohibited in 1872. The temple complex includes several other shrines, among them the Jishu Shrine, dedicated to Ōkuninushi, a god of love and "good matches".Jishu Shrine possesses a pair of "love stones" placed 10 meters (30 feet) apart, which lonely visitors can try to walk between with their eyes closed. Success in reaching the other stone with their eyes closed implies that the pilgrim will find love, or true love. One can be assisted in the crossing, but this is taken to mean that a go-between will be needed. The person's romantic interest can assist them as well. After this visit you have lunch and then enjoy a fun couple of hours with a Kimono wearing experience. You must try on a Japanese kimono. Perhaps an exquisite silk one in midnight blue with a flock of silver cranes sweeping across the long sleeves. Or a light pink kimono decorated with an ornate cherry blossom motif. The Japanese kimono is perhaps the most exquisite national dress on earth and a real treat to try on. After trying on the Kimono and having pictures taken you will head off to a local Japanese restaurant for dinner. After enjoying dinner you will head back to your hotel. Day six - 21 October 2023 After enjoying breakfast at your hotel you will engage in another day of sightseeing and places of interest. You will explore two of Kyoto’s most famous attractions, Nijo Castle and Kinkaku-ji, (Golden Pavilion) during this trip to these two UNESCO World Heritage sites. Relive the era of the Japanese ‘shoguns’ (military leaders) in the 17th century during an hour-long visit to Nijo Castle. Continue on to Kinkaku-ji Temple, the beautiful ‘Golden Pavilion’ constructed in the 14th century by the Ashikaga clan. The gorgeous style of Nijo castle was intended as a demonstration of Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu (1542- 1616)'s prestige. Nijo-jo Castle was the residence of the Tokugawa shoguns in Kyoto, who had been ruling Japan for over 260 years from 1603 to 1868, and it remains an eloquent testimony to their power. The wide moat, massive stone walls, and heavy yet elaborate gates are still impressive, and were the only fortifications the inhabitants felt necessary, so firm was their grip on power. The grounds are large and contain several lovely gardens as well as groves of plum and cherry trees. The palace building itself is imposing, yet upon closer examination, is rich in decorative detail. Inside the palace are several masterpieces of Japanese art, most notably the painted screens of the main chamber. In this room the shoguns met the daimyo (high-ranking warlord-administrators) who sought an audience. The screens were painted by artists of the Kano school and employ rich colors and large amounts of gilt to depict flowers, trees, birds and tigers they were meant to impress. Also in the palace are the famous "nightingale floors," which were designed to squeak when stepped on and thus alert guards to any intruders. The Golden Temple is a Zen temple in northern Kyoto whose top two floors are completely covered in gold leaf. Formally known as Rokuonji, the temple was the retirement villa of the shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, and according to his will it became a Zen temple of the Rinzai sect after his death in 1408. Kinkakuji was the inspiration for the similarly named Ginkakuji (Silver Pavilion), built by Yoshimitsu's grandson, Ashikaga Yoshimasa, on the other side of the city a few decades later. Kinkakuji is an impressive structure built overlooking a large pond, and is the only building left of Yoshimitsu's former retirement complex. It has burned down numerous times throughout its history including twice during the Onin War, a civil war that destroyed much of Kyoto; and once again more recently in 1950 when it was set on fire by a fanatic monk. The present structure was rebuilt in 1955. Kinkakuji was built to echo the extravagant Kitayama culture that developed in the wealthy aristocratic circles of Kyoto during Yoshimitsu's times. Each floor represents a different style of architecture. The first floor is built in the Shinden style used for palace buildings during the Heian Period, and with its natural wood pillars and white plaster walls contrasts compliments the gilded upper stories of the pavilion. Statues of the Shaka Buddha (historical Buddha) and Yoshimitsu are stored in the first floor. Although it is not possible to enter the pavilion, the statues can be viewed from across the pond if you look closely, as the sliding doors are usually left open. The second floor is built in the Bukke style used in samurai residences, and has its exterior completely covered in gold leaf. Inside is a seated Kannon Bodhisattva surrounded by statues of the Four Heavenly Kings; however, the statues are not shown to the public. Finally, the third and uppermost floor is built in the style of a Chinese Zen Hall, is gilded inside and out, and is capped with a golden phoenix. After these two amazing and very interesting visits you will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and then head to the Kyoto International Manga Museum. Opened in 2006, the Kyoto International Manga Museum (Kyōto Kokusai Manga Museum) consists of three floors and a basement, and most of its walls are lined with shelves of manga. Browsing this massive collection of manga is one of the museum's main attractions. A small section of the books is dedicated to foreign and translated manga, but the vast majority is in Japanese. Modern day manga can be defined as comics corresponding to a Japanese style which originated during the mid-1900s. The popularity of manga in Japan has since ballooned. Today, there is a huge domestic industry for manga, and increasingly so internationally. In Japan, people of both genders and all ages read manga. The range of manga genres is diverse, with content ranging from history to science fiction and from teenage romance to profound themes about life. The comics are broadly separated into four categories according to the target audience: boys, girls, youths and matured. They can be commonly found in bookstores and convenience stores all over Japan. A manga series may become popular enough that it is made into an anime Japanese-style animation. Examples of world famous anime include "Dragonball", "Sailor Moon", "Pokemon" and "One Piece". Of course, original scripts may also be written for anime. One popular anime production company with its own distinct style is Studio Ghibli, which has produced award winning works such as "My Neighbor Totoro" and "Spirited Away". In addition to its massive collection of indigenous manga, the museum also focuses on both the adoption and development of manga internationally. Works of international manga artists are featured, and manga related events at the museum often involve foreign artists. In addition to its permanent collection, the Manga Museum also features temporary exhibitions on various themes. The building, which now acts as the Manga Museum, was previously an elementary school. Some relics of the former school are on display for visitors. You will then enjoy a Calligraphy Lesson. The art of Calligraphy or Shodo is essential to the world of Zen. In Japan, there are different types of calligraphy, where a sumi-ink dipped brush is used artistically to create bold and dynamic kanji (Chinese characters) to represent the significance of Zen teachings. In Zen, this type of art is called “bokuseki”, and it is completely different from mere calligraphy. Calligraphy is an important and indispensable element for traditional Japanese temples and homes. At Taizo-in, the calligraphy lesson includes an introduction to calligraphy and allows you to practice your drawing. Beginners are welcome. They have a collection of examples of Kanji characters for you to look at, and once you practice with the brush, you will be able to draw the characters on shikishi (a fine square cardboard). You may take home your finished piece of work with a special Japanese mount, which makes a memorable and original souvenir. You will then enjoy dinner at a local restaurant before heading back to your hotel for your last nights’ stay. Day seven -22 October 2023 Today you will check out of your hotel after breakfast and enjoy a number of activities before your evening flight from Osaka to Bahrain. You may leave your luggage at the hotel. You first visit will be Nara where you will visit the Todai-ji Buddhist Temple. Tōdai-ji is a Buddhist temple complex that was once one of the powerful Seven Great Temples, located in the city of Nara, Japan. The temple has undergone several reconstructions since then, with the most significant reconstruction (that of the Great Buddha Hall) taking place in 1709. Its Great Buddha Hall (houses the world's largest bronze statue of the Buddha Vairocana, known in Japanese as Daibutsu . The temple also serves as the Japanese headquarters of the Kegon school of Buddhism. You will then head to the Nara Deer Park Nara Park, popularly called the Deer Park, is a public park in central Nara where deer roam freely along the grounds. The deer attract numerous visitors and tourists to the park, and will often approach guests in hopes of a treat. There are approximately 1,100 tame deer roaming around the park grounds. According to Japanese mythology, the deer are regarded as divine messengers of the Kasuga Shrine in Shinto. In the park are several vendors selling "senbei" or crackers meant specifically for the deer to enjoy. In addition to being a home to the deer, Nara Park is also a natural woodland of fine turf and has various kinds of Japanese flowers and trees including: Japanese cedar, Wisteria, Japanese Andromeda, and Japanese yew trees. After this morning of interesting and fun visits you will visit the National Museum of Art Osaka (NMAO). The National Museum of Art, Osaka (NMAO), is a unique underground art museum located just a few minutes from the city center on Nakanoshima, a small island between the Tosabori and Dōjima rivers. Opened in 1977, this important gallery contains a large collection from some of the leading international artists of the post-war period, including examples by Picasso and Cézanne and Japanese artists Kuniyoshi and Foujita. It's also home to many important relics and statues. NMAO is worth visiting for the spectacular steel structure outside the museum, a massive installation designed to look like reeds bending under a breeze. After your visit to NMAO you will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and the head to Osaka Castle. Osaka Castle was completed in 1586 and took just three years to build. Ordered and built by famed Japanese warrior and politician Toyotomi Hideyoshi it was, at the time, the largest castle in Japan. Almost all Hideyoshi's military commanders were required to contribute stones for its construction, the largest being the Higo-ishi stone, near the south entrance. Standing nearly six meters high and 14.5 meters long, it was contributed to by the celebrated General Kato Kiyomasa from the island of Shodo. After Hideyoshi's defeat in 1615, the castle was destroyed, only to be rebuilt by the Tokugawa shoguns for reasons of prestige. Again destroyed after the fall of the Shogunate, the castle was reconstructed in its present form in 1931. Highlights include the five-story, 42-meter-tall main tower containing a great museum with exhibits related to the history of the castle and the city (it also offers superb views over Osaka from its upper floors). Also of interest in Osaka Castle Park is the Hokoku Shrine dedicated to Hideyoshi and his family. After your Osaka Castle visit , you will proceed to Dotonbori Dotonbori generally refers both to the Dotonbori Canal and to Dotonbori Street which runs parallel to the canal’s southern bank. It is one of the most colorful areas in Osaka and an absolute must-visit location when traveling through Kansai region. You will then transfer to Magic Planet for one hour and then at 4:00PM you will learn how to construct a Hot Air Balloon The construction aspects include measurement (length & angles for example) and skills like cutting with scissors precisely, gluing and following directions. In this classroom students usually construct the balloons in pairs or small groups. The engineering design process allows students to launch their balloons and they can note changes that would lead to an improved design and relaunch to check results, and so much more. At 7:00PM you will enjoy your Dinner at Space Camp. After Dinner you will proceed with Strange Science activities. This activity takes students beyond the constraints of reality – most notably, beyond the constraints of space and time. For example, VR allows students to perform experiments devoid of gravity and oxygen as if they are on an internationalspace station. After a thoroughly interesting start to this amazing experience you head back to the bays for a fire drill and then to bed! Day 2 – 17 Oct 2023 After breakfast your day will start with Mission training and then you will continue to Workshop -1 for Solar observation Solar observation is the scientific endeavor of studying the Sun and its behavior and relation to the Earth and the remainder of the Solar System. Deliberate solar observation began thousands of years ago. Observing and learning about the sun is important for understanding the behavior of stars. This is the greatest opportunity to observe the sun from the best available instruments and the safest for solar observation. Students are able to see Sunspots in the surface of the sun, Solar prominences in the solar atmosphere, Solar active regions and many more solar activities. Not every year is possible to observe solar activities because of the solar cycle. You will then continue to Zero –G wall The Zero-G Wall Experience is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to experience true weightlessness without going to space! You will experience a weightless environment that allows you to float, flip, and soar like an astronaut. After this fascinating experience you will have lunch for 1 hour. After lunch you will then continue to a 3D workshop This workshop will teach students the design use of virtual 3D shapes, the past and future of 3D printing, and its potential in industry and space exploration. They will learn about its various areas of application and will also design their own shapes! You will then continue to Mission Patch Design Students will learn about the Symbolism and significance of elements on a mission Patch. Mission patches have been part of human spaceflight since the days of Project Mercury in the 1960s. Mission Patch competitions therefore allow community- wide awareness in the Student Spaceflight Experiments Program - an initiative that takes students, teachers, and the community at large to the space frontier through immersion in an authentic research experience. You will then continue to The Astronaut Challenge Traveling to outer space is a challenge not only for the mind, but for the body as well. The effects of zero gravity can be hard on astronaut’s bodies, so you will need to physically train here on Earth, and once you’re in space too. Astronauts also practice their balance while they’re on space missions. Here on Earth, special fluids that keep balanced in heads are controlled by the forces of gravity. After dinner you will enjoy a 3D workshop 2 followed by Night Observation. The 3D Design Workshop opens a gateway between the digital and the physical world. Students will learn about its various areas of application, such as furniture design, interior decoration and architecture. The workshop concentrates on software design, but your students can later send their completed 3D objects to a 3D printer or laser cutter. You will then continue for some night observation . All sorts of things are visible at night that you cannot see during the day, this activity is to observe as many night time wonders as you can! The session will focus on the telescope, how to use it and what to look for. After the night observation you will head back to your bays and off to bed. Day 3 – 18 Oct 2023 After breakfast at Space Camp. You will enjoy another full day program At 9:00AM you will learn about Apollo 15 Apollo 15 was the ninth crewed mission Apollo Program and the fourth to land on the Moon. It was the first mission, with a longer stay on the Moon and a greater focus on science than earlier landings. There were four primary objectives falling in the general categories of lunar surface science, lunar orbital science and engineering operations. The mission objectives were to explore the HadleyApennine region, set up and activate lunar surface scientific experiments, make engineering evaluations of new Apollo equipment, and conduct lunar orbital experiments and photographic tasks.
You will then continue to Stomp Rocket Construction. You will work individually or in teams of two to construct and launch paper rockets using a teacher-built PVC-pipe launcher. Based on the flight performance of the rockets you will analyze the rocket designs, modify or rebuild them, launch again, and calculate the altitude achieved to determine if the changes affected the performance of the rocket. You will conclude this interesting activity by writing a post-flight mission report. You will then continue to 1/16th Micro –Gravity Chair. Gravity chair shows Space Camp attendees what it might be like to walk across the moon by using springs to simulate the reduced gravity. Train like an astronaut on the 1/6th Gravity Chair which includes a zero gravity wall, a space shuttle landing simulator and a microgravity chair. After the Gravity Chair experience you will then enjoy your lunch. After Lunch you will then continue to Stomp Rocket Launch 2 - This paper rocket is placed on a launch tube connected to a plastic bottle. When you stomp on the plastic bottle, air rushes through the tube and fills the body of the rocket. The air pushes against the tube until the rocket pops off. The launcher is different lengths which allows for adjustment on uneven ground and aiming the launch into the wind as if you are launching on a windy day. You will then enjoy the Multi –Axis Trainer experience The Multi-Axis Training simulates a spacecraft/aircraft tumble. Students ride strapped and suspended in a chair assembly inside three rotating rings. The principle of the game is the same for all of our museum hunts in Paris or London: each team is tasked with photographing themselves in front of as many treasures (the art of the museum) as possible within the given amount of time, whilst reading the treasure text. This text provides a history of the work of art, but also often has craftily embedded bonus questions letting the team who reads the most carefully race to the gold medal. After a very interesting morning you will have lunch en route to the Eiffel Tower. The Eiffel Tower is a wrought-iron lattice tower on the Champ de Mars in Paris, France. It is named after the engineer Gustave Eiffel, whose company designed and built the tower. Locally nicknamed "La dame de fer" (French for "Iron Lady"), it was constructed from 1887 to 1889 as the centerpiece of the 1889 World's Fair. Although initially criticised by some of France's leading artists and intellectuals for its design, it has since become a global cultural icon of France and one of the most recognisable structures in the world. The Eiffel Tower is the most visited monument with an entrance fee in the world: 6.91 million people ascended it in 2020. It was designated a monument historique in 1964, and was named part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site ("Paris, Banks of the Seine") in 1991. You can buy everything here, from Provencal spices to hand-made jewelry and cosmetics. Just go in and let yourself be carried away by the past, which is still very much present here. The Old Town of Nice also called Old Nice lies just below Castle Hill. To the south it borders on the Promenade des Anglais, while to the north it touches the Paillon River, or rather the Promenade of Paillon, because the river has been flowing through the city in an underground channel since 1972. The names of streets in the Old Town are written in two versions: in French and in the local Nissart dialect (niçart).

Going towards the sea, which is visible between the buildings, you will, in a minute, reach the green square called the Esplanade Georges Pompidou. Right behind this square, on the promenade, stands a tall sculpture a work by Venet commemorating the 150th anniversary of the annexation of Nice by France. Turn left onto the main street of historical Nice, Saint-François de Paule. This leads to Nice’s main marketplace – Cours Saleya. Along the way, you will pass the Opera House and Patisserie Henri Auer – a chocolate and candied fruit workshop that has been operating here since 1820. Queen Victoria of England personally bought her favorite chocolates here. The Cours Saleya is an elongated square that, until midday, is filled with stalls of flowers and food, and which later transforms into a huge restaurant under the open sky. Every Monday there is a flea market here, which moves to the Old Port of Nice on other days. Here it is worth trying a traditional pancake made from chickpea flour called Socca. Whilst strolling around the Old Town of Nice you will witness some of the other attractions this area has to offer: The Cathedral of St. Reparata - whose colorful dome is perfectly visible from Castle Hill. A reliquary with the remains of Saint Reparata, the patron saint of Nice, is located in the main altar of this 17th-century cathedral, and the entire building is of course richly decorated. It is worth going there to see the dome and numerous side altars. Place Rossetti – a small but beautiful square on which Nice Cathedral is located. The beautiful False Gate that leads to the newer part of the city. The passage is lined with marbles, and its ceiling looks like it was decorated with real gold. Lascaris Palace – a museum in a former aristocratic villa with a collection of old instruments.
