Over the years our alumni have gone on to further their education and pursue various careers in all sorts of
fields such as journalism, law, governance, business, engineering, medicine and many more. We are beyond
proud to see them achieve their dreams, but more especially to have played a significant role in contributing
to their education and their lives as a whole.

As 2021 comes to an end and I
farewell another graduating class

by how much our grade 12 class

And now here we stand. Our rule is over, and it’s up
to the next class to step into our shoes and take over.
I know that as I look out at all of you, I will measure
my time here in a much different way.

To my fellow classmates we made it! today is an
important day in all our lives as we gather here to

learning. Were surrounded by all of the people who
taught and inspired us throughout our lives, parents,

where we are right now.

OUR GRADUATION IS

Our graduation is split up in 3 stages,
A celebration, a time looking back at lessons learned,
adventures shared, and bright moments filled with
special meanings. A farewell, a time saying goodbye
to old friends to good times you’ve known…a time

4 | YEAR BOOK 2021

To the A team I will measure it in all the friendships I’ve enjoyed these last years. Some were pretty casual and
others were much closer, but I’ll remember each one fondly, as I’m sure you will too. And when many of our
high school memories begin to fade, that’s how we’ll ultimately measure the time we spent here, not in periods
or semesters or years, but in the friendships that we made and the times we shared together.
We can’t forget the skeptical people, we want to thank you as well because if it wasn’t for you, we wouldn’t have
been driven by motivation to do our very best. Despite our differences, we’re all here now in the same place, in
the same goofy gowns, receiving the same certificate. We get to share this one last moment all together before
we separate into difference paths.
We were careless because we knew, when we fall our moms will pick us up and dust us off, well nah…that safety
net is gone now. No one will hold you accountable but you. Were about to be exposed to new ideologists, and
it’s crucial that we remember to be loyal to ourselves and priorities and to have courage to stand by our beliefs
because mama ain’t raise no incredulous being.
On behalf of the class of 2021, I want to give a big thank you to our parents for guiding us this far, shaping and
building our foundations. I know you guys are really nervous to send us into the world, because even though
our ID’s say we’re adults, sometimes our behavior is far from you. This will definitely be a rough transition to
the next chapter of our lives, even though I know this class can do anything we set our minds too.
We, the class of 2021, are powerhouse of innovation and creativity. We have also undoubtedly been one of the
most successful and outstanding classes in Banani school history. We will push boundaries to make this world
a better place even in small ways. Always remember where you came from and always remember where you
are going.

Numerous awards were also given to deserving

must mention that, due to an elaborate and sound
program offered by the school; more than 90% of the
students received the awards. Looking ahead to next

Residential really is the heart of Banani and the staff work hard to ensure that all girls feel safe and happy in
their Banani home. It’s a challenging role to keep over 100 girls well and content throughout the year and the
matron, her assistants and nurse spend many hours working with the students as they learn how to be resil-
ient, independent and confident members of the school. Student life in boarding brings many challenges but

Character Development.

Key to much that we do at Banani School, is our
Character Development program. This program
takes the students through a series of studies that
helps them understand their role as agents of change
in their communities and builds a strong spiritual
and moral basis for decision making. It underlies
our discipline policy which focuses on recognising
and rewarding the innate virtues of all students and
works with both staff and students to build a new
vocabulary where positive qualities are recognised
and named. This allows the students to begin to see
themselves as courageous, courtesy, helpful, respect-
ful and kind, to name but a few.

how to use Virtues to develop character in

The virtues and attributes pertaining unto God are
all evident and manifest, and have been mentioned
and described in all the heavenly Books. Among
them are trustworthiness, truthfulness, purity of
heart while communing with God, forbearance,
resignation to whatever the Almighty hath decreed,
contentment with the things His Will hath provided,
patience, nay, thankfulness in the midst of tribula-
tion, and complete reliance, in all
circumstances, upon Him. These rank, according to
the estimate of God, among the highest and most
laudable of all acts – Baha’i Writings.

home to a local primary school which offers hight
quality education to the children of surrounding

It’s been an exciting year for our pri-

first time living away from home and
they have worked hard to develop
the skills and attributes to help them
build relationships with a new group
of ‘sisters’ from different backgrounds
and experiences. We are excited to
see them grow and develop into fu-

activities this year included learning
to use computers, playing chess and
cooking a meal for staff during home
economics lessons, and of course there
is always time to play on the swings
during morning tea and lunch.

We came to this school for one thing which was to learn. But we
ended up doing so much more. The reason we chose Banani is
because it is one of the best, girls’ boarding schools in Zambia and
not the most expensive. Even though most of us have been attending
this school longer than others, we still come together to form an
extraordinary family. For us Banani turned strangers into friends,
friends into family, teachers into parents, and monkeys into pets
(even though we can’t touch them). We are very thankful for being,
able to attend such a lovely school and for everything that the
teachers and the stuff do for us. I hope we all stay in touch when we
graduate because none of use intend to leave this school anytime
soon. And to the graduating class of 2021: we’ll miss you all and
hope to see you again sometime in the future.

Dorm Life – or what we do after class.

Ahhh, Dorm Life,!
What can we say?

Its where we learn
how to work
together under the
watchful eye of
the Matron. We
don’t always love
to do our chores but
we know that
without a tidy dorm room, there will be no tuck on
Saturday and without our washing being done
there are no clean clothes on Monday. We laugh
and cry here, but mostly we learn to love our
sisters and build unity and cooperation.

Introducing Banani International School Graduating

Class of 2021!

Against the backdrop of a world undergoing profound change, there is a growing recognition of the indispensable role
that women in leadership play. In the early days of the coronavirus pandemic, nations in which women contributed more
prominently to the leadership of society were seen to have generated a degree of stability across a variety of short-term
indicators, including public health and economic security. At the community level, women continue to play an
indispensable role—and often lead—in caring for the sick, educating the young, tending to the needy, and sustaining the
social and economic fabric more broadly. Never has it been more clear how much humanity benefits when women’s
leadership is embraced and promoted at every level of society, whether in the family or the village, the community or
local government, the corporation or the nation. Bringing the full extent of this capacity to bear on contemporary
challenges will require movement on at least two fronts: increasing women’s presence in roles of leadership and the
affairs of society, and applying more widely and consistently the qualities that women tend to bring to processes of
problem-solving and decision-making.
