Virtues: The gifts within.
At Banani School, we focus our discipline policy on the
development of Virtues within every student. These vir-
tues are common to all faiths and value systems and
underpin the development of a harmonious and pros-
perous society.
Students are rewarded by being recognized for their
practice of virtues during the year and earn bronze, sil-
ver and gold awards. All students who have achieved
gold awards by the end of the year share in a special
excursion to celebrate their continued improvement

We pride ourselves in the quality of our teachers and their ongoing commitment to both
academic and personal excellence. We are justifiably proud of the success of our stu-
dents, which not only represents the high quality of education they receive but also
their personal qualities of determination, hard work and dedication which they de-
veloped in their time with us. Despite the disruptions that Covid-19 may have posed
on their learning, we were still able to achieve an 87% pass rate.

Our Educational Partners.
Like all Institutions our educational partners are an important
aspect of developing opportunities for our students education.
We currently partner with:
Cambridge International Schools: Provider of the Cambridge
Curriculum and supporting materials for staff professional
development.
Elevate Education: An online learning platform that specialises
in Project Based Learning, (PBL). We are the first school in
Zambia to partner with them and believe engaging in girls in
PBL will greatly enhance their research and critical thinking
skills.
Encyclopaedia Britannica: Providing an up to date, research
tested and student safe reference library to every student
both at home and at school.
International Schools Association of Zambia: ISAZ represents
established independent schools in Zambia and provides a
forum for the discussion of matters of common interest. The
organisation engages in activities that may be considered
beneficial to the independent school movement and provides
a representative body with which others outside the Associa-
tion can consult.
Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme: The Duke of Edinburgh's
Award is a youth awards programme founded in the United
Kingdom in 1956 Open to young people of all backgrounds,
cultures and abilities, the DoE Award is highly regarded as
proof of a young persons ability to overcome challenges and
take control of their own life.
Exolab—10: As one of 3 schools in Zambia, in conjunction with
SensXAfrica, Magnitude.io, UNIDO, FAO and OYA our girls have
engaged in a science project that sees them growing alfafa
plants to capture carbon and providing background infor-
mation to scientist aboard an international space station!

Dorm life:
The matron, dorm parent, and their assistants, along with the duty teacher, are
in charge of the students during non-academic times before and after school
and during weekends. As part of the Character Development Program at the
school, the students are expected to share in some cleaning of the dorms and
ablution blocks on a rotating schedule as well as doing their own laundry and
keeping their rooms tidy.
The residential staff take great care in ensuring that there is a relaxed and hap-
py atmosphere in the dorms, as this makes the environment more conducive to
learning. The students are encouraged to solve any personal conflicts that arise
through the process of consultation, a skill that is taught and reinforced in the
dormitory programs.

In the UK, Cambridge IGCSE is accepted as equivalent to the
GCSE. A good grade (grade C or above) in Cambridge IGCSE
English as a Second Language is accepted for entry by a num-
ber of universities in the UK as evidence of competencein the
English language.
Many universities worldwide require a combination of Cam-

universities require Cambridge International AS & A Levels, but
some US and Canadian colleges and universities will accept
students with five Cambridge IGCSEs at grade C

1. What is the cut off mark for entry into Banani?
As we believe that education is a right for all students, we base entry on a student’s willingness to engage with her own learning and
strive to live up to the Banani vision of developing excellence of character.
2. Why do you only take girls?
Banani School was established in 1993 in response to a lack of quality education for girls and while things have changed a great deal
there is still a need for high quality education focused solely on the needs of young women.
3. Why do you focus on Science and Mathematics?
Banani’s vision, from its beginning, was to give girls and young women the capacity to compete in fields they were frequently blocked out
of for many reasons, including the assumption that girls were either not interested or not capable of achieving in them. Over the years
our students have proved these assumptions false on many occasions and our graduates work in all fields of human endeavor.
4. As a boarding school how often do I get to see my child?
At Banani we run 3 terms per year from January to April, May to August and September to December. Between terms there are 3 weeks
holiday and during term times there are usually 2 visiting Sundays where you are able to visit you daughter and spend the day with her.
Grade 1 – 4 are able to enroll as fortnightly boarders if desired being picked up on Friday afternoons and returning to school Sunday
afternoons.
5. You say you are a Baha’i School. What does that mean and is my child required to be a Baha’i?
To be a Baha’i I school simply means that we base our values on Baha’i principles of equality, justice and unity. The Baha’i Faith has
been present in Zambia since 1952 and during that time has been engaged in many social economic development projects aimed at
increasing the wellbeing of all Zambians. Attendance at Banani does not require any student or staff member to be a Baha’i and all girls
are welcome to practice their own faith and school events are always interfaith. Like any faith based school students are expected to
attend weekly devotional meetings, which are organized by the students and are multi faith in nature, and to attend important Baha’i
celebrations but there is no expectation for them to become Baha’i, in fact a key teaching is that there should be no compunction in
religion and Baha’is should consort with followers of all religions in a spirit of love and unity. Our students are encouraged to engage in
prayer and reflection in whatever way they or their family prefer and we have students from a wide range of cultural and religious back-
grounds living and studying together. You can find out more information about the Baha’i faith at www.bahai.org or if you have any oth-
er questions you are free to contact the Principal directly on [email protected]
