INTRODUCTION
Patriotism is the quality of being patriotic. Patriotism is a frame of mind in which one loves one’s country and is proud of it. It is a vigorous feeling of love, loyalty and support of one’s country especially in defense against its enemies. It means that one should give more value and importance to one’s country than to one’s own self. It makes one bound for certain responsibilities, and these responsibilities are ideological commitment and dedication to the defense and prosperity of the country. As we all know that UAE National Day is coming up and we must give all our importance to this celebration by honoring and reflecting the spirit of the union of all the seven estates that mark a great achievement for the people.
"Protection and patriotism are reciprocal. This is the way which has led nations to greatness."

POEM
I close my eyes and see a flag,
The colours: green, white, red, and black
I open my eyes and see a nation.
I see hope for such great generations. Once upon a time it was lost and just a dessert.
Now it thrives as a beautiful country to which it has convert.
A land of hope,
A land of embraces.
A land in which there are many different faces.
The United Arab Emirates,
A place we call home.
The United Arab Emirates,
A place we all roam.
The United Arab Emirates,
A place to commemorate.
The United Arab Emirates,
A place where we confederate.

TED TALK
Simply stated, patriotism is the feeling of love for one’s country. Demonstrating patriotism—being “patriotic”—is one of the necessities of being the stereotypical “good citizen”
A patriotic person is a person who loves his country and his every action is in order to keep the pride of his country... he respects everyone but cannot just walk away when someone disrespects his country...
Remember, it is not about blindly following the beliefs and cultural values of the country.
It is to take pride in one's origin and work for the prosperity of the country. It is important to show patriotism in our actions and be proud of the country we live in.
So, we must put in all our effort to recognize and thank the government, leaders and rulers of the country we live in- UAE.
"As words are not powerful enough to indicate the sublime status of martyrs, we will remain forever indebted to those who have responded to the call to pay the ultimate sacrifice in defence of the homeland, their sanctities and national gains,“ said the prime minister of UAE
In the same way, to return the favors done by the country, here is our chance to show qualities of patriotism on the 28th of November 2019 at Winchester on UAE National day. Celebrate the happiness of union as a way of thanking the country on this coming National Day...
Happy UAE National Day in advance!....Until next issue!

READ TO LEAD
Hello readers! Welcome to another issue of our school newspaper.
This week’s book review is ‘Flashes of Thought’ a book written by non-other than our Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
The synopsis of this book says ‘I held an interactive question-and-answer session as part of the World Government Summit in the UAE. We explored a wide range of topics from management and leadership to personal life, success and its drivers.
The session became a defining moment for many important ideas, including some that sit at the heart of our vision for this nation.
In Flashes of Thought, I document and expand upon this dialogue. I am neither a scientist nor a wise philosopher. The purpose of this collection of experiences, ideas and thoughts are simply to serve society and bring happiness to people.’
Flashes of Thought is a diverse collection of personal reflections by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai.
It explores the ideas, principles, and experiences that have defined his leadership role in the development of Dubai and the UAE, as well as his personal journey as an Arab statesman on the world stage. The book is remarkable for its eclectic range of topics and for offering insights into Sheikh Mohammed's character as well as his leadership philosophy.
Its concise chapters cover more than thirty subjects including management, creativity, risk-taking, ambition, motivation, and success. He also draws universal lessons from personal anecdotes, childhood memories, and subjects as varied as happiness, horsemanship, football and poetry.
Flashes of Thought was inspired by an audience
dialogue session at the Government Summit in
the UAE in February 2013, during which
Sheikh Mohammed answered questions and spoke
at length on many themes.
The book's accessible and conversational style reflects
the interactivity of that session. It features a foreword
by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Inspiring right? His words as well as Sheikh Zayed Bin
Sultan’s can be words that we can live by.
One of my favorite quotes from this book is "The
future is for those who dare to dream and find the
courage to pursue their dreams”.
In the end, it's a must-read book and it should be
placed in schools, colleges and university libraries
around the world.

Mid Term Exams – Study Tips
Hi everyone!
My name is Cassandra, and as you all know, the mid term exams are coming soon.
In this article, I’m going to be sharing my tips on how to revise for the upcoming exams.
DISCLAIMER: These tips are my way of studying; everyone is different, and these might not work with you.
First Tip-
When studying, make sure your family is aware that you are revising for exams.
I have two brothers, so my surroundings are very noisy and disturbing at times.
Telling my parents that I am studying makes them aware that I need to concentrate, so they bring my brothers to another room and make sure that I am able to focus.
Second Tip-
Listening to music.
Listening to music drowns out all the surrounding distractions and it helps keep me entertained while revising.
Several studies have shown that listening to music before studying or performing other tasks that require your total focus can be beneficial.
It improves your memory, attention, and reduces the levels of anxiety and depression. Although if you’re the type of person who gets distracted very easily or has some difficulties with multitasking, then listening to music while studying might not lead to good results!
It’ll be very easy to lose focus from what you’re studying and listen to the lyrics instead, so be careful.
Third Tip-
Give yourself some time to rest.
Mid term exams are a very big deal and we want to get as much information in our head as possible, but it is important to remember to take breaks.
Benefits of taking breaks are:
Helps you make better decisions (by thinking more clearly)
Breaks spark creative ideas and new solutions
Taking breaks helps you stay focused over long periods of time
Help you retain information in memory (important for studying or rehearsing a speech etc.) Taking short breaks every now and then help you re-focus on your big-picture goals.
How long your break should be:
Take short breaks – say 5 to 15 minutes – every hour or so.
Take a longer break – at least 30 minutes – every 2 to 4 hours.
Fourth Tip-
Use the worksheets.
This is quite obvious, but it will help you revise as well
as help you get a general idea of what the test will be like.

Mid Term Exams – Study
Tips
Fifth Tip-
Make your own revision sheet (written not digital).
I’ve been doing this method for 4 years and it really helps me when preparing for mid terms and finals because writing things down helps me remember information better and get an overview of all the things to study.
Additionally, I like to add colors, diagrams, and small doodles to make my revision sheets less plain and so that it’s more engaging & interesting to study from.
How to Make Your Own Revision Sheet:
- Find a blank notebook
- Refer from the topics given in your study guide
- Write down information about the topics, this can be information from MyLearning or from your class notes/class work.
- Add colors, diagrams, and doodles (optional)

INNOVATION APPS OF THE WEEK:
CREATE:
When a designer creates an app mock-up, they typically need plenty of filler–from lorum ipsum text to fake addresses to sample images. Craft is a suite of five free plug-ins that work in Sketch or Adobe Photoshop CC to take the pain out of finding and placing filler design elements, as well as sync design assets across every user on a particular project.
SLEEP CYCLE:
Sleep is one of the most vital features of the human body. If you get little sleep than required, you will be ill-equipped to handle the day’s takes, and if you oversleep, you may end up missing your responsibilities. Sleep Cycle helps your body get the optimum rest by monitoring your sleeping patterns and waking you up when it senses that it is the best time.
