COMPLETE STREETS

PRACTICAL SOLUTIONS

Making our streets more livable
and vibrant means making them
more accessible to everyone,
from cars to pedestrian and
from shoppers to commuters.
Opportunities abound to
transform streets in ways that
add visual quality while creating
spaces that draw community
and commerce together.

See how CMT has been helping
communities add value to their
streets - and doing so in very
practical and efficient ways.

Revitalization under

INDOT LPA System

GREENCASTLE, INDIANA
• Maximized program development through practical
cost-saving ideas
• Creatively navigated through strict INDOT LPA
criteria, gaining exceptions to maintain City’s unique
vision and materials
• Eliminated ROW takings and utility reimbursements

“Attention to detail has
been greatly appreciated.
From an engineering point
of view, this relationship
has been excellent.”

- Garth Hughes, City Engineer

“The whole process — I’m very proud
of and really happy with the finished
product.” - Council Member

“There’s not a person that has said
that you haven’t engaged them or

included them.” - Council Member

“Outstanding and wonderful to
work with” - Project Chairman

“... good outreach to the community
by bringing people together and
getting them involved on a one to
one basis. CMT staff members have

for all involved.” - City Engineer

Creative Connections

HISTORIC BRANSON DOWNTOWN PLANNING AND DESIGN
• CMT leading a six-block streetscape revitalization of its historic downtown.
• Improve vehicular, pedestrian, bicycle and multi-modal transportation; increase economic viability, efficiently manage
storm water, apply green solutions and create inviting places for pedestrians.
• Created unique walkable connections and inviting pedestrian attractions between downtown and popular Branson
Landings to attract more downtown business from tourists.

ST. LOUIS & GATEWAY ARCH PARK OVER THE HIGHWAY
Before • CMT is leading the centerpiece project of a major transformation of the St. Louis
downtown and riverfront interface that better connects the downtown with the
Jefferson National Expansion Memorial Park, home of the Gateway Arch.

CMT did a great job of
managing the revised
completion date and did
not let the accelerated
schedule impact the
quality of their work.
In addition to doing
their own work, CMT
was asked to coordinate
their efforts with the
architectural firm from
New York and did so
flawlessly.”

3 Blocks of High Impact Revitalization

GEORGIA STREET REVITALIZATION, INDIANAPOLIS

• Convert three blocks of six lane downtown road to world-class flexible roadway/pedestrian mall
• Innovative, cutting-edge infrastructure programming, delivery and design on INDOT/FHWA route
• Connection from Indiana Convention Center to Conseco Fieldhouse establishing a new convention and community
events venue including 2012 Superbowl Village
• Sustainability via rain gardens, bio-retention swales, innovative pavement and a curb-less street design
• Very fast-track design and delivery

“CMT’s organizational and communication skills have been unmatched by others I have worked with
on projects of this scale. The management of utility relocation, subconsultants from various degrees of

expertise, as well as their design responsibilities was a task not many could achieve. I would recommend
CMT for other high-profile projects that must meet a hard deadline and look forward to working with
them again in the future.” - Angela Nicholson, Indianapolis DPW Project Manager

Retrofitting Corridors for

Better Mobility

Incorporating non-motorized facilities into existing roadway corridors comes
with certain challenges. Knowledge of various design concepts and applying
innovative approaches can help communities meet those challenges. CMT has
been a top designer of bikeway projects for the City of Indianapolis, a leader in
SHELBY/MADISON bike network development. Here are few examples of incorporating such facili-
ties into existing Indianapolis roadways.

SHELBY/MADISON

The project involved conversion a 9-mile section of Shelby Street and Madison
Avenue from an urban primary arterial to a cyclist mobility corridor. The con-
version, added two, 5 foot bike lanes to the 4- lane section, leaving three-lane
section with center bi-directional turn lane for vehicular traffic. This alternative
not only allowed for safe operations from all roadway users, but also increased
PLEASANT RUN
traffic operations and level of service for the motoring public.

PLEASANT RUN

CMT designed for the City an on-street contra-flow cycletrack, a first of its kind
for Indianapolis that runs along urban streets and provides a vital connection
between the Indianapolis Cultural Trail and the Pleasant Run Trail. The 10-foot,
two way path is protected from traffic with a 2-foot buffer zone, raised curb and
concrete bollards.

BROAD/RIPPLE BROAD/RIPPLE

CMT helped Indianapolis take a recently improved road and incorporate bike
path facilities in a very cost-effective manner. The project involved converting a
5-lane thoroughfare to 3-lanes for automobiles and bi-directional bike paths.

30TH STREET CONNECTOR

CMT assisted the City in retrofitting an existing corridor to accommodate a
contra-flow path elevated on top of the curb. This new multi-use path connects
three separate off street trails.

Sustainable and Practical

Stormwater Management

Beyond the conventional role of just managing flood impacts and transporting
rainfall events, we understand how stormwater infrastructure can be better designed
and managed to enhance our communities while better integrating stormwater
with the natural environment. CMT has been engaged in the ongoing evolution of
innovative LID (low impact development) approaches and BMPs (best management
practices). We partner in taking a holistic approach to stormwater with clients, such
as the City of Indianapolis, among others. Our experience highlights an approach
that balances sustainability goals within each situational context to provide the most
