FirePlank by VidaSpace is an eclectic blend of ancient Japanese techniques and
todays modern manufacturing capabilities. The process of charring wood is known
as 'Shou Sugi Ban'or 'Yakisugi' and produces, arguably, some of the most exquisite
wood textures and colours in the world.

This centuries old technique is gaining new life, being used by some of the worlds
leading architects and interior designers. The FirePlank Collection is becoming
an instant sensation with designers, looking for striking and sustainable wood
designs. FirePlank offers a stunning range of finishes, from the heavily charred 'St
Helens' to the charred red of 'Pinatubo'.

All handcrafted from sustainably grown Cypress, the wood is carefully charred,
doused in water, brushed, stained, and sealed by expert craftsmen.

Functional, beautiful and simple clean lines are the hallmarks of Scandinavian
Design. The MÖDEN Collection by VidaSpace encapsulates these key features,
ensuring functionality without eliminating the grace and beauty of the design.

We have developed a stunning new range of solid wood beams and fins in the slow
grown European Spruce. An excellent chance for architects and interior designers
looking for decorative wood rafters, beams, fins, and screens.

The beautiful wood, slow grown in the cold Scandinavian climate, has been crafted
into some unique profiles to create stunning Scandinavian designs that are easy to
install and are great value-for-money.

Only using the highest quality European Spruce, these wood products will enable
bright, light and functional environments, with options of smooth or band sawn
faces, with micro-beveled edges, or the new negative detail profile that makes a
feature of the clean lines of Scandinavian design, with a shadow line.

AMAZING SPRUCE FACTS

• Spruce gained early fame as an aircraft and boat building material because of its
high strength to weight ratio and shock absorbing qualities

• Accepts & holds paint & stain finishes very well, requiring fewer coats than other
timber because of its light, uniform colour

• Some spruce trees can grow to over 60m high with a canopy spread up to 12m wide
• The Wright Brother’s first aircraft was made of Spruce
• Great resilience and elasticity properties
• Old Tjikko, a 9,550 year old Norway Spruce tree in Sweden, is considered the oldest-

living clonal tree in the world
• Every year a large Norway Spruce tree is used at the Rockefeller Centre in New York

as a Christmas Tree
• It seasons readily, and, once dry, is stable with very little tendency to warp or twist
• It has the highest strength-to-weight ratio of any timber species in the world
• Spruce trees can live up to 1000 years

THE CLIMATE CASE FOR USING MORE WOOD

NATURE VERSUS NURTURE
It is still generally accepted that CO2 emissions are the principle cause of climate change.
Wood is nature’s own carbon sink: growing trees absorb CO2, then break it down through
photosynthesis, releasing oxygen into the atmosphere and storing the carbon. One cubic
metre of living wood absorbs almost one tonne of CO2.
Left to nature forests achieve a climax stage where the site is supporting its maximum fertility.
At this stage new trees only grow as others fall from age or natural disaster. The dead and
dying trees emit CO2 from the stored carbon and, since growth is only matched by decay,
there is no net increase in carbon storage.
Harvesting trees as they mature allows the carbon to be stored throughout the life of the
wood product, for example, every cubic metre of wood flooring contains 5kg of carbon.
Furthermore, the market for wood provides an economic incentive to preserve and replant,
particularly important in tropical regions where deforestation is frequently seen as a solution
to providing energy or land.

CHOOSE WOOD FOR THE SAKE OF THE PLANET
Greater use of wood products will stimulate the expansion of the forests and so reduce
greenhouse gas emissions: increasing the number of wooden houses in Europe by just 20%
would produce sufficient CO2 savings to account for around half of the reductions prescribed
by the Kyoto Protocol! And Europe alone grows enough wood annually to build such a house
every single second.
The production and processing of wood is also highly energy efficient: every
cubic metre of wood used as a substitute for other building materials reduces
CO2 emissions by, on average, 1.1 tonnes. It is thermally efficient, and even at the
end of its life a wood product remains ecologically useful since it can be reused,
recycled, or used as a carbon-neutral biomass energy substitute for fossil fuels.

These pre-finished, FSC® certified, 14mm engineered planks utilize a click system
and triple layered construction involving two layers of softwood with a European
oak lamella. From a European mill established since 1973, they now have an
annual production capability of 6,000,000m2. This huge capacity, combined with
their insistence on maintaining in-house control of all aspects from the forest
right through to the packaging. Highly sophisticated quality control programmes,
ensures consistent deliveries of excellent quality and makes the range perfect for
the largest of projects.

PurePlank offers lacquered and oiled finishes within the range. We recommend a
further coat of finish after installation for oiled boards. All carry a 20-year residential
(5 year commercial) warranty.

An innovative metal clip system is available for fast and easy installation on vertical
surfaces.

T R I K B R I K™

Our passion for wood is indisputable but occasionally we find some amazing non-
wood products for wall cladding. TrikBrik is one such product. You can recreate the
Servian Wall overnight, emulate the Arc de Triomphe in under a week, or simply
turn pillars of plaster into pillars of stone in a day; if you‘ve a mind to do something
special, this is the product which will enable you to bring it to life.

Contemporary design is all about textures, so brick and stone now feature strongly
in interiors. The downside is that they are heavy, messy to fit and require a skilled
labour force; brick slips make use of any existing structure, but are equally as messy
and are still best left to a bricklayer. TrikBrik is completely different: designed as a
metre square interlocking cladding panel system, it comes complete with mastic
and paints (sometimes several to achieve the effect) to hide the joins, and it
enables you to achieve authentic-looking brick and stone walls and other features,
quickly and cleanly using unskilled labour.

The patented manufacturing system is the result of no less than 30 years research.
High density polyurethane, polyester resin and crushed marble stone produce
an exceptionally light yet durable, highly realistic panel, with excellent thermal,
acoustic and flame retardant properties.

TrikBrik is water repellant and non-permeable, so will not be affected by humidity;
nor will it fade in the sun. The panels are easily cut to size, requiring no special tools,
and can be treated with anti-graffiti formula if required. Furthermore, they can be
repainted with a polyester resin paint; so when your Arc de Triomphe starts to pall
in red, you can always paint it purple.
