Guide in Using PIVOT Learners Material Module

For the Parents/Guardian

This module is created while taking into consideration the learners
needing further assistance from us in terms of studying and learning what
they need to know when they are inside the classroom. Although the module
serves its purpose it still needs the guidance and concrete instructions from
the facilitators.
Also remind the learners to use separate sheets in answering the pre-test, self-
check exercises, and post-test.

For the Learner

This module is created to impart to you the lessons you have to learn in
modern arts. For this quarter the activities are made for clearer understanding
of the lessons in media-based arts and design. The module has to be followed
in sequence including its activities.

I What I need to know?

This module was designed and constructed for you. It was created to help
you understand and appreciate media-based arts. This module will help you an-
alyse media based arts and design artists in the Philippines that contributed
much in the development of arts not only in the country but international as
well. Using their techniques and processes to communicate, ideas, experiences
and stories. The lessons are arranged to follow the standard sequence of the
course.

The module is divided into five lessons, namely:
Lesson 1 – Photography
Lesson 2 – Film
Lesson 3 – Animation
Lesson 4 – Print Media
Lesson 5 – Innovation in Product and Industrial Design

After going through this module, you are expected to:
1. identify representative artists in the Philippines;
2. identify artists as well as its distinct characteristics of media-based arts
and design;
3. distinguish works of arts of media-based artists based on its
characteristics;
4. appreciate their works as an expression of being a true Filipino as
exceptional;
5. talent and on par with global standards.

LESSON 1: PHOTOGRAPHY

In the previous module, you have learned the elements of various Media-
Based Arts in the Philippines. It has introduced you to technology-based arts
which is limitless especially to the generation of today were gadgets like comput-
er, laptops, mobile phones, tablets and other devices are accessible. In this quar-
ter, modern approaches in photography, film, print and digital media, product
and industrial design will be explored as part of modern-based arts and design.
Introducing remarkable Filipino artists that opened opportunities for young Fili-
pino talents to expose their creativity and earn a living as well while they enjoy
what they do.

To start with module 2 you need to recall the elements of arts in media-
based arts and design in the Philippines where line, space, texture, form, color
shape, and value is evident. For lesson 1 you will be introduced to the Filipino
artists who made a name and difference in their work of art making it globally
known. You will also be acquainted with some of their famous works.

In the Philippines, photography practice taking photographs between
1840s to the 1890s. The pioneers of photography in the Philip-
pines were Western photographers, mostly from Europe.

Notes to the Teacher

Consider the time needed to complete all the activities in this mod-
ule lessons 1-5 for Quarter III for the submission of the outputs
and module activities.

D What is it?

Photography is a method of recording the image of an object through the
action of light. The photographers unlike the traditional style position the lens
and filters to create the effect. For today’s photographers the process evolved to
exposing the film into dark room or may prefer a photo editing software.

Filipino Photographers

Is an award-winning travel photographer who has
won two Pacific Asia Tourism Association (PATA)
Gold Awards, an ASEAN Tourism Association award,
and first place in the 2011 National Geographic
Photo Contest. His highly acclaimed work has been
published in five travel photography books.

GEORGE TAPAN

Best known as an advertising and commercial
photographer with over 40 years of experience in this
field and numerous local and international awards for
his work. At the same time, he has applied his photo
artistry to showcasing the beauty of the Philippines.

JOHN K. CHUA

Manny was a full-time teacher at an international school
in Bangkok where he discovered his passion for
photography, and where the rest of the online world
discovered his unique “purely ambient light” approach to
glamour, fashion, and travel portraiture.

Is a Filipina street photographer and documentary

about migration and the intersections of labor and
human rights.

Animation is the art of making inanimate objects appear to move. The Philippine
animation industry traces its origins back to the 1980’s. Being one of the earlier
players in the industry, with the local Philippine animation industry scene being
around for already twenty years, the Philippines is considered one of the stronger
Asian players in the realm of animation globally.

LESSON 4: PRINT MEDIA

Included here are large scale publications such as newspapers, magazines,
journals, books of all kinds, as well as smaller scale posters, brochures, flyers,
menus, and the like for its purpose. The popularity of comics in the Philippines
arise in the 1920’s when Liwayway magazine featured comic strips. Local comics
were influenced by Americans with local superhero characters such as Darna
and Captain Barbell were used.

“Father of Filipino Comics” - was a Filipino illustrator
regarded as the Father of Tagalog comics and as the
pioneer and founding father of the Philippine comics
industry. He was the creator of Kenkoy, an “iconic
Philippine comic strip character”.

A Filipino comic books illustrator and writer and is
regarded as one of the “Pillars of the Philippine Komiks
Industry”. In 2014, he was posthumously conferred as a
National Artist for Visual Arts, the highest honor for
