On February 16, 2026, the Blue Devils openedtheir varsity home season with a special ceremonyhonoring two generations of Blue Devils. FormerCHS Booster Club President, Reggie Kelley and hisson Ty Kelley. Reggie and Ty delivered theirceremonial first pitches to their grandsons andnephews, Woodruff and Wison Holland, providinga fitting tribute to their lasting impact andcontributions to Columbus High School baseball.2026OPENINGDAYFor many years, Reggie played a pivotal role in the CHS baseball program.He facilitated the construction of the CHS indoor batting facility and servedboth as President and Vice President of the Booster Club during his son Ty’s highschool career, and later when grandson Wilson (Class of 2025) played for the BlueDevils. Today, Reggie and his wife, Beth, remain dedicated supporters.Ty (Class of 2006) was a member of two state championship teams and two staterunner-up teams. His 2004 squad compiled an impressive 35–2 record and finishedranked No. 2 nationally in the USA Today poll. As a pitcher at CHS, Ty posted aremarkable 34–6 record. He went on to play four years at Auburn University beforespending six years in the Los Angeles Angels organization. He currently serves asDirector of Business Development for Ajax Corporation and resides outside of Atlanta.Prior to the game, Ty addressed the team, sharing his experience and encouragement.
He went on to Columbus State University where he earned SecondTeam All-Conference honors and played professionally with the Class“A” Richmond Roosters in the Frontier League. He earned an Associateof Science Degree in Secondary Education from Andrew College, a BS inEducation from CSU and a Masters in Sports andFitness Management from Troy State University.Chad Mathis is currently in his20th season as coach and 12 seasonthas Head Coach for Columbus High SchoolBaseball. Coach Mathis’ coaching career beganwith St. Anne High and Berrien High Schools inNashville, TN and then Andrews College Tigers inCuthbert, GA. He was a member of the StateRunner-Up football team at Peach County HighSchool and was also a 4-year letterman in baseball.Coach Mathis is married to the formerElizabeth McKnight of Coumbus, GA. Theyhave two children, Emma (17) and Coleman(9).MEET THECOACH
Scott graduated from St. Anne Pacelli High School where heplayed football and baseball and was a two time All Bi-City, andCoach Scott Livingston has more than17 years baseball coaching experience whichincludes Head Middle School Baseball Coachfor St. Luke School boasting seven winningseasons, a GISA Middle School State Championship,a GSOIA MS State Championship Runner-Up and anundefeated season!earned a BA in Psychologyfrom Auburn University.He is married to the formerJaime Davis and has threechildren, Davis (22), Isa (21)and David Scott (19).MEET THECOACH
Coach Matt Rossi is a 2011 graduate of St.Anne Pacelli High School where he was anoutfield player and RHP on the Varsity Team.He attended Northwest Florida College andjoined the coaching staff at Columbus HighSchool in 2016.MEET THECOACH
Coach Dan is a graduate of ColumbusHigh School where he was a member oftwo state championship and two staterunner-up teams. He also played baseballat Middle Georgia College and UnionUniversity in Jackson, Tennessee.Coach Dan is a well-known and much-loved coach on thetravel ball circuit having coached with the Young Gunsorganization for many years. He led numerous teams throughdozens of championships over the years where he coached many ofthe young men he sees on the fields ofCHS on both sides of the diamond.Coach Dan is in his third-year as hittingcoach at Columbus High School where hebrings his years of experience to the team.MEET THECOACH
Coach Reid Gardner is a 2015 graduate ofPelham High School in Birmingham. Duringhis playing career at the 6A Alabama school,the Panthers ranked 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 8th, whilewinning their Region three times.Coach Reid was a C/OF in college, and like most catchers,he has a great understanding of the game. He volunteered atPeach Little League before joining the Blue Devils, where hiscoaching mindset and deep-seated passion for the game ofbaseball adds to the expertise and proficiency of the CHS coachingstaff.Today, when he is not coaching onthe baseball or football field, you canfind him at Moe’s Original BBQ atMid-City Yards with his brother Cole“Goo Goo” Gardener, also a formerbaseball player, where they arethriving within the Moe’s OriginalBBQ Restaurant ecosystem.A huge thank you to Coach Reidand the folks at Moe’s BBQ for allthey do for the athletic programsat CHS.MEET THECOACH
