I shifted. Literary themes and rhetoric.
Analysis has always felt comfortable.
The Hero’s Journey, synecdoche,
anaphora. I made flow charts.
Applied a method
to the science of stories.

All of it in search of the words
or the meaning behind them.
The words for color. The words
for describing. For explaining.
The words for defining other words.
How they all worked together
to create and enhance a whole.

It seemed natural to interrupt that whole.
Remove context. Introduce randomness,
see what the text does, how it fills
the gaps. I started to pull sections
to see if they could stand on their own,
and in that process I found evidence
of a conversation.
