ALPHA NU: 90 YEARS IN ACTION The North Carolina A&T State University Chapter, The Alpha Nu of Kappa Alpha Psi celebrates 90 years of existence in the Fraternity since April 14th, 1933. Alpha Nu 90th Anniversary April 2023 90th Annivesary Alpha Nu Flyer highlighting the advancement of the Chapters History and 7th annual retreat We the Willing As we continue the work of the 90th year of the Chapter’s existence it is key to highlight the work put in to set off the 7th Annual Alpha Nu Retreat. Brothers currently on the yard and alumni across the years met up on the campus of our illustrious North Carolina A&T State University to do Business and Fellowship. The start of the retreat was lead with a proper opening at registration where Brothers received a paraphernalia kit catered to the significance of the Chapter’s 90th anniversary on Charter Day. After, Brothers stopped by the plot on campus to kick it with undergraduate Brothers and catchup with Brothers visiting from all over. Business took place the following day on campus at the Academic Classroom Building. Business proceeded per Alpha Nu standard with current leadership providing updates of the Chapter and Network’s status. Past awards, awardees, and leadership were highlighted to continue discussion of what is next to maintain the standard. During the intermission, Brother Byron Hailey (Sp ‘19) provided lunch and refreshments. Following, there were 3 breakout sessions to bring light to important conversations in the Brotherhood. Breakout session one “Beyond the Letters,” focused on leveraging your experience in the Fraternity to make opportunities in the professional world. Session two “Purpose Path,” was bout applying Brother’s passion to the motto “Achievement in every field of human endeavor.” Session three “Rituals and Customs” focused on the traditions and customs of our Noble Brotherhood, providing transparency and fine tuning of Fraternal practices. The night of check in, the Brothers of the Alpha Nu Alumni Network and the Alpha Nu Chapter held a social event at the XO Lounge in downtown Greensboro. The outing was held with great fun and an garnered an awesome turnout continuing the chapter’s enduring reputation for social events “Hard work to do and heavy loads to lift...”
A Celebration to Remember: Brother Robert Jenkins, guest speaker at the Alpha Nu Charter Day Banquet April 2023 7th Annual Alpha Nu Retreat photo with all the Alpha Nu Brothers present In celebration of this special charter day and successful retreat, Brothers gathered at the Alumni Center on campus to pay homage to the Charter Members and Brothers of Alpha Nu. The Banquet was titled “Alpha Nu: 90 Years In Action.” In addition to the past and current Brothers of the Chapter, the Middle Eastern Sr. Province Vice Polemarch, Brother Lascel Webley, and Grand Board of Directors Alumni Member Brother Robert L. Jenkins, Esq. were also in attendance. During the night the Chapter’s success of yesterday and today could not only be seen but felt throughout the room. In closing the Chapter recognized it’s support of Brother Jenkins and Brother White in their campaigns pursuing office in Grand Chapter. The event was paramount in celebrating the Alpha Nu of our dreams. At the 86th Grand Chapter Meeting in Tampa, Florida the Brothers of Alpha Nu Racked up a long list of Achievements and gathered for plenty of fellowship throughout Konclave. " ...THAT'S THE KAPPA OF MY DREAMS. " The Charlotte (NC) Alumni Chapter won the Paul W. Caine National Alumni Chapter of the Year Award under the Leadership of Brother Polemarch Justin Neal. Brother Brian Cheek and the Alpharetta-Smyrna (GA) Alumni Chapter received 3rd Place in the Jay Crosby Award for Outstanding Guide Right Program of the Year. Alpha Nu Guide Right Director - Nick Brown (Sp '22) ACHIEVING ON ALL LEVELS Brothers Achieved on all levels throughout the week. Brother Correggio Peagler recieved the 53rd Byron K. Armstrong Award for his outstanding tenure as Polemarch at A&T. Brother Peagler is also currently serving as President for “Nupes in Medicine,” a sub-group created for building the bridge of Black doctors in communities as an accessible resource. Grand Board Member Brother Bryce Dickerson also received the 101st Guy L. Grant Award for outstanding achievement for his time in undergrad at A&T. The Chapter also received the Edward G. Irvin National Undergraduate Chapter of the Year Award under the Leadership of Brother Polemarch Brent White III who was also elected the Grand Board of Directors as an Undergraduate Member. The Jay Crosby Award for Outstanding Guide Right Chapter of the Year was also awarded to Alpha Nu under the leadership of Guide Right Director Brother Nicholaus Brown. BOOKS, BROTHERHOOD, AND BUSINESS Throughout the week, The Fraternity exhibited many forms engagement through Political Action, Social Affairs, Achievement, Historical Appreciation, Corporate Sponsorship and Undergraduate Engagement through a plethora of programs. Programs like Lead Kappa Helped drive the initiatives of our Future Leaders taking charge. As we continue into the new Fraternal year under a new series of leadership on all levels our mission still stays strong as a chapter. By design we are on course with set leaders, programs, committees, and relationships that will continue the growth and excellence of our beloved chapters existence. Executing at all costs, quality in our numbers, and brotherhood is our bases of internal living. WHAT'S NEXT? Checking in with AN Spring '22 Brother Justin Brooks as he takes on life after Undergrad. Brother Justin Brooks is a Spring 2022 initiate into the Alpha Nu Chapter from LaFayette, Alabama and has a bachelor’s degree in general economics. He is now continuing his scholastic journey as a graduate student at George Washington University studying Sport Management while also working for Boeing Company as a Procurement Agent. When he completes his current studies, he is looking into a career within an NBA organization working in the front office or as a Sports Agent. From the Court to Corporate While in school at A&T, Justin played as a guard on the Men’s Basketball team. Although he was presented with multiple scholarships from other universities, seeing that A&T was the right fit he would walk on the team and soon show his quality’s of leadership and execution. “BE JOYFUL IN HOPE, PATIENT IN AFFLICTION, FAITHFUL IN PRAYER.” (ROMANS 12:12) -Scripture that Brother Brooks lives by Justin is now living in Arlington, VA, engaging in the culture of the DMV and continuing his casual interests. He enjoys being around family, traveling, watching sports, and is still staying active on the court. Coming into this year, the chapter realized that we were in a unique situation.” “Compared to all of the years since the ‘Return of the Beast’ in Spring 2018, the chapter this year has its lowest number of active members. However, we still are advancing the impact and legacy of this outstanding chapter.
