คำนำ
รายงานเล่มนี้จัดทำขึ้นเพื่อเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของวิชาภาษาอังกฤษให้
ได้ศึกษาความรู้ในเรื่องราว Expression โดยได้ศึกษาผ่าน
แหล่งข้อมูลต่างๆอาทิเช่น ตำรา หนังสือ วารสาร ห้องสมุด
และแหล่งเว็บไซต์ที่มาต่างๆโดยรายงานเล่มนี้มีเนื้อหาอธิบายใน
เรื่อง Expression การทำแบบทดสอบก่อนเรียนและหลัง
เรียน
ผู้จัดทำคาดหวังเป็นอย่างยิ่งว่าการจัดทำรายงานฉบับนี้จะเป็น

Gerund
Gerund คือ คำกริยาเติม ing (V-ing) ที่ทำหน้าที่เป็นคำนาม เรียกกันว่า
กริยานาม
หน้าที่ของ Gerund คือ?
อย่างที่กล่าวแล้วว่า Gerund ทำหน้าที่เหมือนคำนาม สามารถอยู่ได้ทั้งหน้า
กลาง และหลังของประโยค ดังนั้นคำนามทำหน้าที่อะไรได้ Gerund ก็ทำได้
เช่นกัน ดังนี้
1. Gerund ทำหน้าที่เป็นประธาน (Subject) ของประโยค เช่น
Eating vegetables and fruits is good for your health.
(การกินผักและผลไม้ดีต่อสุขภาพของคุณ)
Getting a good job is not easy.
(การจะได้งานดี ๆ มันไม่ง่ายหรอกนะ)
Fishing is fun.
(การตกปลาสนุกจัง)
2. Gerund ทำหน้าที่เป็นกรรม (Object) ของประโยค แบ่งออกเป็น 2 แบบ คือ
2.1.เป็นกรรมของกริยา transitive verb (vt) + gerund **transitive verb
คือ กริยาที่ต้องมีกรรมมารองรับ** เช่น
He enjoys reading.
(เขาสนุกกับการอ่านหนังสือ)
Tom avoided talking to his boss.
(ทอมหลีกเลี่ยงการคุยกับหัวหน้าของเขา)
I just can’t stop loving you.
(ฉันไม่สามารถหยุด(การ)รักคุณได้)

คำกริยาบางกลุ่มที่ต้องตามด้วย Gerund มีดังนี้

2.2. Gerund เป็นกรรมของบุพบท (Prepositions) ตามกฎแล้วคำที่ตามหลังคำ
บุพบทต้องเป็นคำนาม แต่ถ้าจะตามด้วยคำกริยาต้องเป็น Gerund เช่น
Tom is good at playing football.
(ทอมเก่งในการเล่นฟุตบอล)
You can improve your English by using the internet.
(คุณสามารถพัฒนาภาษาอังกฤษของคุณได้โดยการใช้อินเทอร์เน็ต)
We are looking forward to going to Italy.
(เรากำลังตั้งตารอที่จะไปอิตาลี)
ระวัง! คำกริยาวลี (Phrasal Verbs) บางคำที่ประกอบด้วยคำว่า ‘to’ ที่เป็นคำบุพบท
เช่น look forward to (ตั้งตารอ), take to (นำไปยัง), accustomed to (คุ้นเคย,
เคยชิน), get around to (ได้ทำ, ทำเสร็จ) และ used to (เคยชิน) ดังนั้นต้องจำไว้
เลยว่า ‘to’ ในกริยาวลีเหล่านี้เป็นคำบุพบท จึงต้องตามด้วย Gerund
3. Gerund เป็นส่วนเติมเต็มของประโยค (Complement) มักตามหลัง Verb to be
เช่น
The knowledge is learning something everyday.
(ความรู้คือการเรียนรู้สิ่งต่าง ๆ ทุกวัน)
The hardest thing about learning English is understanding the gerund.
(สิ่งที่ยากที่สุดเกี่ยวกับการเรียนภาษาอังกฤษก็คือความเข้าใจเรื่องกริยานามนี่
แหละ)

4. ใช้ Gerund ตามหลังคำคุณศัพท์บางคำ เช่น afraid of (กลัว), fond of (ชอบที่
จะ), interested in (สนใจใน), proud of (ภูมิใจกับ), busy (ยุ่ง) เป็นต้น เช่น
They are afraid of losing the match.
(พวกเขากลัวแพ้การแข่งขัน)
นี่เป็นหน้าที่หลัก ๆ ของ Gerund ที่ต้องเรียนรู้และระมัดระวังหากเจอประโยคที่มี v-
ing เราต้องพิจารณาดูให้ดีว่าเป็น Gerund หรือ present participle
