International Day Of Education Education is a human right, a public good and a public responsibility. The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 24th January as International Day Of Education, in celebration of the role of education for peace and development. Without inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong opportunities for all, countries will not succeed in achieving gender equality and breaking the cycle of poverty that is leaving millions of children, youth and adults behind. Today, 250 million children and youth are out of school, and 763 million adults are illiterate. Their right to education is being violated and it is unacceptable. It’s time to transform education. The 6th International Day of Education will be celebrated on 24th January 2024 under the theme ‘Learning for lasting peace’. The world is seeing a surge of violent conflicts paralleled by an alarming rise of discrimination, racism, xenophobia, and hate speech. The impact of this violence transcends any boundary based on geography, gender, race, religion, politics, offline and online. An active commitment to peace is more urgent today than ever : Education is central to this endeavor, as highlighted by the UNESCO Recommendation on Education for Peace, Human rights and Sustainable development. Learning for peace must be transformative, and help empower learners with the necessary knowledge, values, attitudes, and skills and behaviors to become agents of peace in their communities. “Peace cannot be kept by force, it can only be achieved by understanding”. - Albert EinsteinBy:- Savidi Sahisha. PINNOCCHIO. Author:- Carlo Collodi One of the most widely read books of all time, Carlo Collodi’s PINNOCCHIO is a riotous, tale that will charm young and old with its endearing blend of magic. This book is about a boy puppet who’s tested on his morality and patience throughout different trials in the book. Whether Pinocchio realizes it or not, there are right choices and there are wrong choices, all of which have a subsequent consequence. He struggles continuously with selfish action and conscious rebuke. I enjoyed the book very much. This book gave me a sardonic and tumultuous feeling that one could reread it. I think that each chapter was written pretty well, with good descriptions and imagery. I had a lot of emotions when Pinocchio thought he had lost his father and his fairy based on the decisions that he made. I would like to recommend this book to all the other readers. This is one of the classic books. It isn’t too hard to read or comprehend, and there are a lot of new words to learn. By :- Linaya Jayathilaka. Grade 10
Nine Arch Bridge • The nine arch bridge, also known as the ‘bridge in the sky’ as constructed by connecting two big mountains. When constructing the Badulla-Colombo railway. This bridge is 300ft in length, 25 ft in width and 80-100 ft in height. It is one of the best examples of colonial-era railway construction in the country. Nine arch bridge is 103 years old. This is the beautiful place in Sri Lanka. I wish that I could visit there. By:-Mevni Grade 6-A
