E. Materi Pembelajaran
kisahyangterjadidimasalampau.Adabeberapajenisteks Narrative antaralain:legend, fairy tale,
fable, a journey or a voyage, folk tales. Namun, pada pembahasan ini difokuskan pada cerita
legenda.
Fungsi Sosial teks Narrative:
▪ Menghibur ( entertaint)
▪ Memberi pelajaran atau informasi ( give the moral lesson or information )
Struktur teks Narrative:
1) Orientation:
Menyeting awal cerita dan memperkenalkan karakternya (who, when, what, and where).
2) Complication (problem arises followed byother problem):
Unsur kebahasaan teks Narrative:
Past tense (killed, drunk, etc)
Adverb of time (Once upon a time, one day, etc)
Time conjunction (when, then, suddenly, etc)
Specific character. The character of the story is specific, not general. (Cinderella,
Snow White, Alibaba, etc)
Action verbs. A verb that shows an action. (killed, dug, walked, etc)
Direct speech. It is to make the story lively. (Snow White said, ”My name is Snow
White”). The direct speech uses present tense.
3
Jenis- jenis Teks Narrative
1) Myth
A myth is a traditional story that may
answer life's main questions, such as the
origins of the world (the creation myth)
or of a people. A myth can also be an
attempt to explain mysteries,
supernatural events, and cultural
traditions. Sometimes sacred in nature, a
myth can includegods or other creatures.
It presents reality in dramatic ways.
2) Folklore and Folktale
Whereas myth has at its core the origins of
a people and is often sacred, folklore is a
collection of fictional tales about people or
animals. Superstitions and unfounded beliefs
are important elements in the folklore tradition.
Both myths and folklore were originally
circulatedorally.
3) Legend
A legend is a story that's supposed to be
historical in nature but that is without validation.
Projecting examples include King Arthur,
Blackbeard, and Robin Hood. Where evidence of
historical figures, such as King Richard, actually
exists, figures such as King Arthur are legends due
in large part to the many stories that have been
created aboutthem.
4
4) Fable
A fable is a type of story which shows
something in life or has a meaning to a word. A
fable teaches a lesson or suggests a moral from
it. A fable starts in the middle of the story, that
means, jumps into the main event without
detailed introduction of characters. The
characters of a fable may
be animals, plants and legendary creatures.
When animals are used in fables, they think and talk
like people, even though they act like animals.
5) Fairy Tale
A fairy tale may involve fairies, giants, dragons,
elves, goblins, dwarves, and other fanciful and
fantastic forces. Although originally not written for
children, in the most recent century, many old fairy
tales have been "Disneyfied" to be less sinister and to
appeal to kids. These stories have taken on lives of
their own. In fact, many classic and contemporary
books, such as "Cinderella, ""Beauty and the
Beast," and "Snow White,"are based on fairy
tales. But read theoriginal Grimm brothers' fairy tales, for
example, and you'll be surprised at the endings and how they differ from
the versions that you may have grown up with.

One hot day, an ant was seeking for some water. After walking around for a
moment, she came to a spring. To reach the spring, she had to climb up a blade of
grass. While making her way up, she slipped and fell unintentionally into the
water.
She could have sunk if a dove up a nearby tree had not seen her. Seeing that the
ant was in trouble, the dove quickly put off a leaf from a tree and dropped it
immediately into the water near the struggling ant. Then the ant moved towards
the leaf and climbed up there. Soon it carried her safely to dry ground.
Not long after at that, there was a hunter nearby who was throwing out his net
towards the dove, hoping to trap it in this way.
Guessing what he should do, the ant quickly bit him on the heel. Feeling the pain,
the hunter dropped his net and the dove flew away quickly from this net.

TEXT 2
Well, my frinds, I have a very interesting story. The story is about about “
Batara Kala”, a myth from Java. Have you heard about it? No? Never? Please be
quite aand listen carefully.
You know, Batara Kala was an evil giant. He always killed people, especially
children. His hair was made of fire. Everybody was afraid of him.
One day, Batara Guru, the chief god invited all the gods and goddesses to
drink sacred water in Paradise. The water was called Tirta Amertasari. It means “
the water of immortality”. You know why? Because anyone who drinks this water,
he or she will live forever. He or she will never die.
You know what? Batara Kala was not invited because he was evil. Then,
secretly, he flew into paradise and stole some of the water . Batara Surya the god
of Sun and Batari Chandra , the goddess of moon knew what he did. Immediately
both of them reported to Batara Vishnu, the keeper god of the universe. Then
Batara Vishnu, the keeper took his fatal weapon, Cakra and shot it at Batara Kala.
While Batara Kala was drinking the water, the cakra hit him on the neck.
Batara Kala’s body was separated from the head at once. But, since he had drunk
the sacred water, his head was alive. He was very furious with Batara Surya and
Batari Chandra and swore to take revenge on them. He chased Batara Surya and
Batari Chandra, caught them both and swallowed them up.
Fortunately, Batara Surya and Batari Chandra could escape from Batara
Kala’s throat because he no longer had a body . So, Batari Chandra and Batara
Surya were safe every time Batara Kala swallowed them up.
That’s why when there is a solar eclipse or lunar eclipse, Javanese people
believe that Batara Kala is swallowing Batara Surya or Batari Chandra. It’s
interesting, isn’t it?

No The Legend of Rawa Pening
1 Once upon a time, there was a little poor boy came into
a little village. He was very hungry and weak. He
knocked at every door and asked for some food, but
nobody cared about him. Nobody wanted to help the
little boy.
2 Finally, a generous woman helped him. She gave him
shelter and a meal. When the boy wanted to leave, this
old woman gave him a “lesung”, a big wooden mortar
for pounding rice. She reminded him, “please
remember, if there is a flood you must save yourself.
Use this “lesung” as a boat”. The “lesung” was happy
and thanked the old woman.
3 The little boy continued his journey. While he was
passing through the village, he saw many people
gathering on the field. The boy came closer and saw a
stick stuck in the ground. People challenged each other
to pull out that stick. Everybody tried, but nobody
succeeded. “Can I try?” asked the little boy. The crowd
laughed mockingly. The boy wanted to try his luck so
he stepped forward and pulled out the stick. He could
do it very easily. Everybody was dumbfounded.
4 Suddenly, from the hole left by stick, water spouted
out. It did not stop until it flooded the village. And no
one was saved from the water except the little boy and
the generous old woman who gave him shelter and
meal. As she told him, he used the “lesung” as a boat
and picked up the old woman. The whole village
became a huge lake. It is now known as Rawa Pening
Lake in Salatiga, Central Java, Indonesia.
