COMPUTER HARDWARE
Computer field is divided into:
SOFTWARE:
Software field deals with working on computer, computer operators, computer
programmers
HARDWARE:
Hardware fields deals with repairing of computer, computer engg.
WORKING PRINCIPLE OF COMPUTER
Computer works on principal of
INPUT  PROCESS OUTPUT
FOR EXAMPLE:
If you type 2+3, then you have to type this at keyboard, (SO KEYBOARD IS INPUT
DEVICE, since you are giving input to computer. )
The output that is sum “5” will come on monitor (SO MONITOR IS OUTPUT
DEVICE)
The process of addition is done by C.P.U.( CENTERAL PROCESSING UNIT, SO IT
IS PROCESSING DEVICE)
PARTS OF COMPUTERS

COMPUTER HAS FOUR MAIN PARTS
1) INPUT DEVICE : It is used to input data to computer, example keyboard,
mouse and digital pen.

1

2) PROCESSING UNIT : It is used to do all calculations and decision making
if any.
The inside of CPU is divided into 3 main parts
DATA FLOW DIAGRAM

CONTROL UNIT

KEYBOARD A.L.U MONITOR

(AIRTHEMETIC LOGIC UNIT)

MEMORY

Control unit : It controls all the input out put operations and devices
A.L.U. unit : It does all arithmetic Logic process
MEMORY unit : It stores all the data
INSIDE OF CPU BOX

2

3) MEMORY UNIT : It is used to store the data of computer: It is categorized
into two type
a. PRIMARY MEMORY
i. R.A.M (RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY
It is a chip inside computer, it starts working when computer
starts and goes off when computer is switched off, so it is a
temporary memory. Whatever comes on computer screen is on
R.A.M. and if we do not save our work, and monitor switches
off then all work will go away as R.A.M loses data being a
temp. memory.

b. SECONDARY MEMORY
i. Hard disk: It is a permanent storing device which is fitted
inside computer, what ever work we do on computer that by
default goes into hard disk. It is non portable storing device.

ii.OPTICAL DRIVE: It is a optical drive since it is based on laser
technology. It is portable device, It is of many types like CD ROM,
DVD ROM

3

iii. PEN DRIVE : It is a USB based storing device, which is
portable and easy to access and reliable

PEN DRIVE
4. MONITOR : As the output is shown on monitor so it is storing

device. It is of two types
a. C.R.T. (CATHODE RAY TUBE) . It is a bulky device
works on CRT technology

L.C.D (LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY). It is a slim device works on
L.C.D. technology.

4

NETWORKING
Networking is the way by which computers are connected together to
share resources like optical drive, printers internet etc.

When computers are connected in small area like a lab or a small building
or two buildings of same campus it is called LOCAL AREA
NETWORK ( L.A.N)
When computers are connected in large area like a big building or diffent
building of a city or near by cities, it is called WIDE AREA NETWORK
(W.A.N.)
INTERNET :
Internet is bigger form of W.A.N. where millions of computers are
connected together to share information.
USES OF INTERNET
Internet is used to extract information regarding any thing, it is used to
send and receive emails and share contacts.
EXTRACTING INFORMATION
The search engine like GOOGLE YAHOO SEARCH , MSN SEARCH are used to
extract or search information on internet.
SENDINING AND RECEIVING E-MAIL
Email is send and received using mail servers like YAHOO.COM, GMAIL.COM,
REDIFFMAIL.COM etc

5

SHARING PERSONAL CONTACTS
We share personal contacts and pictures and events with our friends in SOCIAL
NETWORKING SITE like ORKUT, FACE BOOK, etc
SOFTWARES are divided into
OPERATING SYSTEM
WINDOWS 95
WINDOWS 98
WINDOWS 2000
WINDOWS XP
WINDOWS VISTA
All are MICROSOFT operating system.
LINUX
UNIX
SOLARIS

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too:
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream and not make dreams your master;
If you can think and not make thoughts your aim,
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same:
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build'em up with worn-out tools
