INTRODUCTION

Numerous Biochemistry alumni are currently hold great positions
in a number of universities, research institutions, and private
businesses, both domestically and internationally. Therefore, it is
necessary to know the activities of biochemistry alumni in order to
gather feedback towards the betterment of present undergraduate
and postgraduate students. This "Biochemistry Homecoming Seminar
(BHS)" also becomes a platform to help current biochemistry students
to more aware of the demands of global markets. In this programme,
the alumni are welcome to share about their time on the campus and
their accomplishments since graduated from the biochemistry
programme. Also, it is hoped that the alumni could help students by
offering them an assistance to find a placement for their industrial
training.

The history of the first BHS, which held on October 11, 2012, has
benefited both undergraduate and postgraduate students. The
impact of the previous seminar has strengthened the students'
identities, elevated their spirits, and allowed them to prepare and
provide themselves with holistic development including physical,
emotional, spiritual, and intellectual aspect in both academic and co-
curricular activity. It has also provided an exposure for future career
path esspecially in the field of biochemistry, particularly for final-year
undergraduate students who are ready to graduate.

MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN

It is my pleasure to warmly welcome everyone
to the Biochemistry Homecoming Seminar
2022 organized by the Department of
Biochemistry, Faculty of Biotechnology and
Biomolecular Sciences (FBSB), UPM.

“Home is the starting place of love, hope and dreams.”

I would like to applaud our alumni, especially our three speakers who were
invited. I extend them my sincere gratitude and my heartiest appreciation for
their willingness to involve in the effort to support their alma mater. I also
wish you all well in your upcoming responsibilities. Your spirit is gratefully
acknowledged and rewarded.

Science, technology and innovation are central to success in today’s
economy. It is imperative that activities like this be inculcated in seeking
future research opportunities and promoting scientific and technological
networking among researchers, institutions and industries. This Homecoming
Seminar has been successfully organised for the past 6 years and has
become a tradition for the Department of Biochemistry. Let the tradition
continue for the well-being of the faculty and the alumni’s future
endeavours.

Last but not least, I would like to congratulate and express my appreciation
to the organizing committee for their tireless effort in making this seminar a
success. Once again, have a fruitful seminar and welcome home to all
speakers!

Best wishes and thank you.

Prof. Dr. Shuhaimi Mustafa

MESSAGE FROM
THE HEAD OF DEPARTMENT

On behalf of the Department, I am delighted
to welcome all distinguished guests, speakers
and students to the “Biochemistry
Homecoming Seminar 2022”.

This annual seminar aims to connect our alumni and the Department. It offers
a venue for students to learn from and expose to insightful perspectives,
advice, and guidance from our alumni. In addition, this provided ideas and
an overview of the job fields for the students that will pursue after
graduating.

I would very much like to take this opportunity to thank and honour the
notable graduates who have agreed to spend time with their forerunners in
the Department. I sincerely hope that this connection will develop and grow.
Let's all do our part to strengthen the bonds between these two entities.

I would also like to congratulate the organizing committee for their excellent
effort in ensuring a successful seminar.

With Knowledge We Serve.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Syahida Ahmad
Head of Department of Biochemistry
Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences
Universiti Putra Malaysia

MESSAGE FROM CHAIRMAN

Assalamualaikumwarahmatullahiwabarakatuh and good day,

Welcome to the Biochemistry Homecoming Seminar 2022, which has
been successfully organized by the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty
of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences, UPM, for 9 years now.

It is gratifying to note that this programme serves as a platform for
sharing knowledge, expertise and career success of our alumni with the
alma mater two weeks after UPM’s convocation week. We hope this
programme will act as a catalyst to enhance interaction, and
collaboration among researchers, especially with our alumni members.
Hence, it is hoped that this program can be a traditional event for our
department for many years to come to show how versatile a degree in
Biochemistry can be. This programme will never be a success without
the hard work and commitment of all members of the organizing
committee and various sponsors. I would like to express my sincere
appreciation to the members. Last but not least, I am very grateful to all
guest speakers for their acceptance of our invitation and their effort to
contribute to their alma mater. I hope all participants will enjoy this
programme and bring back pleasant memories. Welcome home!
