T"here is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find the ways in which you
yourself have altered."— Nelson Mandela

“When is the reunion, Ma'am? Any update?”
Almost every day I faced a volley of similar questions

from my Ex-students. Their excitement over the event made
me extremely happy, thinking that the bond between us was
un-exterminable. Finally the D-day arrived on 28th December,
2019 amidst the biting cold but promising a warm get-together.
It was a sabbath from our busy lives, a reminiscence of our old
days, going down the memory lane almost three decades
back.

The School Alumni meet was organized for batches
1994 to 2015 and was held in the School auditorium. The
atmosphere was electric as we teachers prepared to greet the
old students. On a personal note, I felt a tinge of nervousness
– I entered the auditorium with a sense of trepidation,
wondering if the ex-students would still remember and
recognize us and more importantly what their reaction would
be. The picture in my mind was of those adolescents dressed
in uniform running around in the corridors and replying to

greeted us with the same respect and

warmth that they had for us, all these years ago. As the events

unfolded, it was clear that it was going to be a very successful

and splendid day.

The programme commenced with the arrival of our

Principal, Mr. Prashant Narula accompanied by Dr. Deepa Archana

Narula, Director of Academics and started off with the

traditional lighting of the lamps. The guests were greeted with

floral presentations and the auspicious tilak. The events

unfolded with the student compere inviting the senior teachers

to address the audience. Mrs. Sunita Chauhan presented her

short yet insightful speech in Hindi, describing how quickly the

years had passed by and yet she felt that the students had not

changed much.

I was the next speaker, and as I took to the podium,

memories of these students 30 years back, flooded my mind.

Smart looking boys and girls with eager faces sitting in the

classrooms. It was a wonderful feeling addressing those same

students again. I felt that the precious 32 years which I had

invested in this school had yielded returns in the shape of

these young smart and confident men and women, and was

not only beyond my comprehension but to my full satisfaction. I

could barely control those tears from running down my cheeks.

A sense of deja-vu engulfed me.

Deepa Madam was the next to address and bless the students with her inspiring words.

Prashant Sir took his turn gladly to a huge sound of applause as the students were eagerly waiting

I am Colonel Sarjeet Yadav. I am presently serving in the Corps of
Army Air Defence. I am tenanting the appointment of Director (Equipment
Management) in Directorate of Army Air Defence, Integrated Headquarters of
MoD (Army), New Delhi. I passed out from Shiv Vani in 1994 with the CBSE
Merit Certificate in Physical Education. I am a B.Sc graduate of JNU from
National Defence Academy Khadakwasla. I have a Master's Degree in
Military Science from Cairo University, Egypt as well as from Berhampur
University, Odisha. I have held several tenures in the insurgency in J&K and
North-East. I commanded my unit in Leh including Siachen Glacier. I have
been awarded Sena Medal (Gallantry) as well as Chief of Army Staff
Commendation Card for eliminating terrorists in J&K during Operation
Rakshak.

Shiv-Vani is my alma mater. It provided me with academic learning, bonding with my friends and an
excellent team of faculty. Shiv Vani taught me the joys of learning, the importance of hard work and imparted
the values of being responsible, respectful and diligent. I have many memories of participating in
extracurricular activities, house activities as Pratap House Captain and subsequently as School Captain. Most
of my memories revolve around the efforts made by the management and faculty (Ms. Kalpana, Ms Bala, Ms.
Joseph, Ms. Sharma and several other teachers) in the growth of the school. Proud to be an alumnus of Shiv
Vani.

Colonel Sarjeet Yadav
Batch of 1994

When something you have waited for years, finally happens, how do you feel? Ecstatic! Exactly that's
how I felt about the alumni meet on December 28th 2019. It was the first-ever alumni meet
that the school organized. Everything about that day was really special and very well-
organized. It was heartwarming to go back to that same place after 18 years where I had
spent the most crucial years of my life. Being with the teachers from junior to high school was
extremely emotional. The bone-chilling cold of that day could not stop us from being there
and feel the warmth of our school, its premises, the classrooms, the playground and above
all the teachers. I would like to thank the school's management for organizing the meet and a
big shout out for all the respected and dear teachers for welcoming us back with open arms
and an open heart. Look forward to many more meets in the future!

I joined Shiv Vani in 2003 and passed my class XII in 2009. I am presently working as a Legal
Assistant with BPR&D and am elected as Civil Judge in Bihar.

I have a lot of memories associated with my school- from being the best orator in Hindi to the topper
of class X in 2007. I participated in many extracurricular activities apart from academics. The teachers were
always supportive and Prashant sir being a Principal has been an epitome of inspiration always. People say
that we miss our college life more than our school life, but for me, Shiv Vani was always the place I missed
and still I cherish those memories. School days are irreplaceable and today I feel proud that I am an
alumnus of Shiv Vani. The school had laid a strong foundation for my future and inculcated confidence in me.
Thank you all those who have contributed to my successful life journey.

It is an immense pleasure to be back once again in Shiv Vani and meet
Principal Sir, teachers and friends. I would like to extend my gratitude to
school management for organizing this wonderful event. I am happy
and privileged to be part of this memorable occasion. The alumni meet
paved a way for all of us to reunite and reconnect with our Alma mater
that has played an important role in shaping our future. It is almost an
impossible task to share the joy of revisiting a place that was once an
important part of your life. To an onlooker, the school may appear to be
made of bricks and stones, but to each one of us, it is built with love and
emotions. No doubt, this was the driving force for all of us to attend the
alumni meet - some of us travelling great distances, other rescheduling appointments
and engagements. Standing at the threshold and looking back, we all can say with utmost
confidence that this school has not left any stone unturned in making us better human
beings and worthy citizens. From moral lessons to public speaking to self-defense, all
qualities and values were inculcated in us.
On behalf of all my friends, I thank my teachers for this opportunity and seek their
blessings. To conclude, I would like to say that that the fame of an institution is not only on
its administration and the qualifications of teaching staff, but also in the achievements
and overall development of its students. I am extremely proud and lucky to see the
students of my school performing better year by year in academics, sports and
extracurricular activities.

Good luck to all my juniors.
