Communication Sue Daffon – The Albanian Editor

I had a long telephonic chat with Andy Schmulow, Class
of ’88 whilst he was over in SA recently. He also managed
to contact John Boje. The same weekend I went to
support Lebo Tladi, Class of ’12, at a small Art exhibition
he was hosting in Pretoria. His work is really amazing and
for someone who only did Graphic Design as a Plan B,
having not got into Medicine, there is no doubt that it has
enabled him to find his true talent!

It was good too to meet up
with Ronnie Todd at the
recent Speech Day. Pat, his
wife, has been ill for almost
18 months, but is doing
very much better now. We
keep Ronnie and Pat in our
prayers.

Tom Hamilton sent news of Sanan Mirzoyev, Class of ’08, who
gained his President’s Award (Duke of Edinburgh) whilst at school.
He graduated from UP with distinction in 2015. Sanan continued
to be actively involved with the award scheme, promoting it and
mentoring “at risk” youth members as they reintegrated back into
society. In 2016 Sanan was appointed as legal researcher at the
Constitutional Court of SA. This year Sanan has been accepted at
Cambridge University to pursue a Masters in Law, with specific focus
on digital technology and human rights. He has been awarded a
Chevening Scholarship from the British Foreign and Commonwealth
Office as well as a Cambridge Trust Scholarship. Sanan said that of
all the opportunities he has had, the President’s Award will always
be important to him. It was through the award that he discovered
his passion for human rights.

From further afield we
have news of Mark

Mark was taking part
in the Great Cycle
Challenge, raising
money for “Fight Kids’

Now he has just earned an

the hard work, perseverance
and commitment that he put
into achieving his vision will
inspire young people from
Soweto and South Africa to
realise their dreams.

As we know Tom Hamilton, is a networker of note – often unintentionally! Having sent
news about Sanan, Tom has since bumped into Jonathan Klapwijk, Class of 08, who is
busy doing his MA in Psychology at the North West University in Potchefstroom. Chris, his
brother and Class of ’06 is also following his passion of brewing Craft beer.

Daniel Giannoccaro, Class of ‘12 is satisfying
