Journey Letter #3
Journey Skills Clinic, Bike Project Payments and Gear offerings
Dear Parents and Form 3 Journey Boys
Journey Skills Clinics
On Friday the 6th and Saturday the 7th of July we will be offering various Journey skills clinics ranging
from bike maintenance to personal strength and fitness conditioning for the Journey. These sessions
will be completely optional and the boys will only need to indicate their interest in attending. I
have, however encouraged the boys to see this training as vitally important and suggested that
they send at least 2 boys from each group to each of the various sessions. A basic outline of the
offering can be seen below:
Friday 6 July: (14h30 - 15h30, 15h30 - 16:30)
1. Leadership, reflection and letter writing
2. How to make a fire; tie a knot; build a shelter and look after your feet
3. Mountain bike skills course and bicycle maintenance
4. Strength and conditioning training for the Journey
Saturday 7 July: (09h00 - 13h00)
5. A navigation and map-reading clinic @ Moreleta Nature Reserve
Gear offerings
As per my previous communication, Mike Pollock (a St Alban’s College parent and distributor of
First Ascent and Cape Storm apparel) is offering great discounts for gear ranging from tents and
back packs to protective clothing to all St Alban’s College parents and boys. Mike has graciously
offered to make himself available at the College each Sunday, starting on the 1st of July, from 5
pm in the afternoon for any families who would like to view and try on gear they may wish to
purchase for the Journey. I would encourage families to contact Mike via WhatsApp message on
083 628 6964 to make an appointment.
Bike Project Payments
Our Journey Bicycle Project beneficiary, Ubuhle Christian School in Bronkhorstspruit, provides world
class education to orphans and vulnerable children in under-resourced farmworker families and in
the township areas surrounding Bronkhorstspruit. Their mission is to raise a generation of well-
educated children who have exceptional morals and character, and who can make a positive
contribution to their families and to society. For more information about Ubuhle, please visit their
website by following this link. http://ubuhlecares.org.za/ubuhle-christian-school/.
Our aim is that Ubuhle Christian School will receive the bicycles once they have been cleaned and
serviced at the conclusion of the Journey. The bicycles will then be allocated to children who will

use the bicycles as transport to get to school. This will improve their quality of life and ensure
sustainable education.
The Form 3 Journey boys, I trust, have started to raise money towards this project and I look forward
to the purchase of these bicycles. Funds that have been raised for this project can be paid in cash
at the Finance Department or into the College bank account using the following details and
