Dear Barbershop Boys’ Parents
WORLD CHOIR GAMES 2018
Greetings from the Music Department. We hope you had a most wonderfully relaxing holiday with your sons
and that you are looking forward to the term ahead. We have a jam-packed music programme this term
and we look forward to seeing you at the many events planned.
As you are aware, the Barbershop Boys will be competing in the 10th World Choir Games, to be held in
Tshwane, from Wednesday 4 – Saturday 14 July 2018. This is the world’s largest choral competition and it will
provide your sons with unique and memorable experiences, and incredible encounters with choirs from
around the world. The Barbershop Boys have been entered into two categories: Young Male Voice Choir
(Category 4) and the Pop Choir (Category 23). The Barbershop Boys will be involved in the Competition from
Sunday 8 – Saturday 14 July. We are still awaiting the final schedule from the organizers and we will pass this
on to you as soon as we receive it.
As the World Choir Games fall during the School Examination Period (Tuesday 3 – Thursday 26 July for Forms
4 & 5 and Friday 13 – Thursday 26 July for Forms 1, 2 & 3), we have met with the Academic Director, Mr Pather,
in this regard and the following arrangements have been made regarding examinations for the respective
forms:
FORM EXAMINATION PERIOD DESCRIPTION
Forms 1-3 Friday 13 – Thursday 26 July
Normal Examination Timetable
(With the exception of Friday 13 July, for which internal
arrangements will be made to write the examination
scheduled for this day)
FORM EXAMINATION PERIOD DESCRIPTION
Forms 4-5 Tuesday 3 – Thursday 26 July Normal Examination Timetable from Tuesday 3 – Friday 6 July
No Examinations from Monday 9 – Tuesday 17 July
Normal Examinations from Wednesday 18 July – Thursday 26
July
Once the Final Examination Timetable has been published,
Forms 4 & 5 students must please meet with Mr Pather
individually, to arrange suitable days and times to write the
examinations missed from Monday 9 – Tuesday 17 July.
These individual meetings are to ensure that the boys
arrange times that will advantage them and not put them
under any unnecessary pressure
In addition to the above dates, the Barbershop Boys will be required to attend final preparation workshops
from Friday 29 June until Sunday 1 July – the last 3 days of half term. Further details regarding these workshops
will be forthcoming.
Kindest regards
Rainer von Schlichting Mark Stenhouse
