SPOTLIGHT Saint-Gobain inaugurates a state-of-the-art Research Centre in Chennai
On 29th January, 2016 Saint-Gobain
opened its new cross-functional research
center, Saint-Gobain Research India
(SGRI) at IIT-Madras Research Park in
Chennai. The centre was inaugurated by
Selvi J. Jayalalitha, Hon’ble Chief Minister
of Tamil Nadu in the presence of Mr.
Pierre-André de Chalendar, Chairman and
CEO, Saint-Gobain, Mr. Anand Mahajan,
General Delegate and Mr. Anand
Tanikella, Director, SGRI along with the
senior management from the Group in
India.
With an investment of about Rs.200
crores, the new research centre is a world-class facility spread over 120,000 sq. ft. It will focus on developing
innovative and sustainable solutions for Saint-Gobain’s existing businesses (the major product lines include:
abrasives, glass for architecture, glass for automotive, gypsum plasterboard and plasters, high performance
ceramics and plastics etc.) and will enable the Group to accelerate its growth in the region. Unique to this Centre
will be its focus on establishing multi-comfort in buildings as well as affordable housing and new competencies
that will enable it to develop sustainable habitat solutions for hot and humid climates including the Indian
subcontinent, the Middle East and Africa.

Saint-Gobain to invest Rs. 1000 Crores more in Glass Business in Tamil Nadu SPOTLIGHT
The Glass Business will be expanding the World Glass
Complex with an additional investment of Rs. 1000
Crores over the next two years taking the cumulative
investment in Sriperumbudur to over Rs. 3000 Crores.
This decision has been made to meet the growing
demand for sustainable glass solutions in India and the
overseas markets – i.e. the African, Middle-East and
ASEAN markets.
These investments will add significant manufacturing
capacity and capabilities to the World Glass Complex -
• A new floatglass plant: This third floatglass plant
on the site will be the largest in India and the region
and will be equipped to manufacture a wide range
of complex products that cater to the needs of sustainable habitat and affordable luxury
• A new magnetron coater plant: Keeping in mind the global trends, Saint-Gobain will be investing in a
second magnetron coater facility. With this, the World Glass Complex will have the capacity to manufacture
144 million sq ft of High-Performance, High-Selective, Energy-Efficient Glass catering to entire Africa, Middle-
East, ASEAN and Oceania region

Grindwell Norton runs for a cause at the Mumbai Marathon 2016 SPOTLIGHT
As a part of Grindwell Norton’s (GNO) 75th
Anniversary celebration and to support the cause of
Saint-Gobain India Foundation (SGIF), a team from
Mumbai participated in the Standard Chartered
Mumbai Marathon 2016. Mr. Anand Mahajan along
with 48 other employees ran the half marathon to
support the education of underprivileged children.
The event was held on Sunday 17th January, 2016
with 40,000 people including dozens of corporate
bigwigs participating in the marathon. This was the
second year in a row that a Saint-Gobain team participated in the Mumbai Marathon.
SEPR Refractories inaugurates a new plant in Perundurai, Tamil Nadu
The SEPR Refractories Business inaugurated its
new fused-cast refractories plant in Perundurai,
Tamil Nadu on 10th December, 2015. This new
facility will offer a systematic radar-guided x-ray
service to certify the inner structure of the blocks.
Its 2,500 sq. metre pre-assembly shop will further
allow customers to view and approve the full
furnace at one location. The combined capacities
of the new Perundurai plant and the existing plant
at Palakkad make SEPR Refractories India one of
the world's largest producers of fused-cast refractories at one location.
The site was inaugurated by Mr. Alain Zanoli – Vice President, Saint-Gobain SEFPRO in the presence of Mr.
Anand Mahajan, General Delegate, Mr. Laurent Battu - Industrial Director, Saint-Gobain SEFPRO and Mr. R.
Srinivasan - Managing Director, SEPR India.

SPOTLIGHT Pulse Employee Engagement Survey 2015
The Saint-Gobain Group in India conducted the 6th edition of Pulse:
Employee Engagement Survey in the month of December 2015. The survey
was conducted to gauge the employee engagement quotient, identify areas
that facilitate engagement and highlight areas & processes that need more
attention. Based on the Aon Hewitt framework of engagement behaviors
and drivers, the online survey saw participation of over 3000 employees
from across businesses. The results show a significant gain in the Group's
engagement score in 2015, which is 66% vis-a-vis 56% in 2012. These
results will be used to measure the progress over the past few years and determine how sustained and effective
the improvement efforts have been. They will also be used to identify priority areas for the long term.
SG INDEC develops ICON – an Internal Conference Network
SG INDEC has developed an Internal Conference Network (ICON) to
better manage internal conferences and meetings on a digital platform.
Through this platform, employees can now better organize and administer
communication pertaining to an internal conference. The organizers of
the conference can send automated invitations to the participants and
track confirmations and regrets. The participants in turn can complete
the registration process online. This includes sharing travel, stay details
and meal preferences. The portal also has a section to upload hotel
information, ground transfer details, dress code and RSVP.

At Saint-Gobain, promoting a positive health culture, one Perundurai Panthers, SEPR - Perundurai
that fosters good health and well-being of employees, is
an integral part of the Health Pillar under EHS. In line with
this commitment, the Saint-Gobain Stepathlon Challenge:
Wave 2 was launched in September 2015. A total of 1505
employees (301 teams) participated in the 100 Day race
that ended in December last year. Four of our teams
made it to the Top 10 teams amongst all the participating
corporates across the world.

CONFERENCES & MEETS The Saint-Gobain India Managers Meet 2015-16
Over 160 Senior Managers from the Group in India came together at the 2015-16 India Managers Meet with Mr.
Pierre-André de Chalendar, Chairman and CEO, Compagnie de Saint-Gobain (CSG) in Chennai on 28th January, 2016.
At the meet, Mr. Anand Mahajan, General Delegate, made a presentation on the Group’s performance in India, the
current external environment and its impact in the near future. In his presentation, Mr. Mahajan highlighted the
sustained growth in profits and profitability in 2015, business opportunities & priorities and planned investments
for the years ahead.
Priorities for 2016:
• Grow volumes in all businesses in domestic markets –
new products, new markets, new customers – and, especially, export markets
• Continue to increase prices
• Rapidly progress WCM initiatives and generate cost savings
• Effectively manage working capital and cash flow
• Effectively manage the Bhiwadi float, progress construction of new plasterboard plant in Gujarat and cloth
finishing line in Bangalore, ensure smooth start-up and ramp-up of Alumina plant and complete phase I of
SEPR’s new plant at Perundurai, ensure smooth ramp-ups of the new Bonded, Non-woven and HPR plants

Mr. Pierre-André de Chalendar began his speech by congratulating the team in India for an excellent business
performance in 2015. The improved focus on environment and safety is commendable and the Group in India
should continue to invest in it. Mr. Chalendar emphasized that environment and climate change would play an
important role in defining our strategic moves for the future. According to him, as the global economy continues
to be volatile, it is imperative for the Group to leverage on its brand value, technological prowess and digital
connectivity to remain competitive and agile in the long run.
Mr. Chalendar emphasized on five strategic aspects that need to be in focus:
1. Customer intimacy – To understand the needs, wants and priorities of the customers in a better way
2. Sustainable habitat – To strengthen the Group’s strategy and vision for the future
3. Differentiation and innovation
• To be innovative and strive for differentiation from the competitors
• To give more focus on customer solutions
4. Community of United Entrepreneurs – To develop a community of united entrepreneurs which is a firm belief

This year, the participants had a chance to ask questions to Mr. Chalendar through a unique mobile application prior
to the meet. The most voted questions were answered by him after the presentation.
As a part of the meet, an exclusive session on Compliance and Code of Conduct was organized for the participants.
A case study based approach was considered for this session. Participants discussed cases on violation of the
code of conduct and the manner in which such situations need to be approached. The session provided an insight
to the Managers on the aspects that need to be considered while resolving such cases.

CONFERENCES & MEETS New Managers Seminar 2016
he Saint-Gobain Indian Delegation hosted the New Managers Seminar from 15th to 24th March, 2016 at Vivanta Taj,
Chennai. 30 participants from 5 Delegations - 13 from overseas and 17 from India, representing all the sectors made
it a culturally and functionally diverse audience. The ten-day seminar focused on structured inputs on fundamentals
of leadership, skills behind managing a team, running and growing a business in an international, multicultural
environment, especially using the Saint-Gobain Managerial Core Competencies frame of reference. As a part of the
program, sessions on leadership, self-awareness, multicultural management and teamwork were conducted along
with a business simulation. For this program, the L&D team in India partnered with Indian Institute of Management,
Bangalore and S. P. Jain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai.
Over 10 days, there was a planned endeavor to give participants a cultural experience of India. The diversity of
India was emphasized by a visit to Mahabalipuram - an ancient historic town with rock-cut monuments, temples
and structures carved during the 7th and 8th century. The visit was followed by a cultural evening and classical
dance performance by renowned Bharatnatyam artist Padmashri Meenakshi Chitharanjan. A visit to the World Glass
Complex, Sriperumbudur and Saint-Gobain Research India, Chennai was also organized to showcase the scale and
quality of the operations of the facilities in India.
About New Managers Seminar: The New Managers Seminar is one of Saint-Gobain’s flagship corporate programs
organized under the School of Management, Compaigne de Saint-Gobain (CSG), Paris. The program aims at
developing managerial competencies in an international and multicultural environment and is targeted at young

SG INDEC Stars Nite 2015 CONFERENCES & MEETS
INDEC Stars Nite, one of the most awaited events at SG INDEC, was held in Mumbai on 27th November,
2015. At the 5th edition of the coveted awards nite, the most promising teams and individuals at INDEC were
awarded under several categories. These included: Best Team, Best Project Manager, Bright Spark, Outstanding
Performance, Valued Contributor, Special Awards and Innovation at Workplace.
Mr. Aju Varghese (CIO, Saint-Gobain Group in India) set the tone for the evening by sharing the vision for INDEC
including 'INDEC Apps' and 'INDEC Infra'. This year, as a part of their socially responsible actions, INDEC provided
accessories and a laptop to Akanksha, an NGO working in the field of education of the underprivileged children.
The Stars Nite also saw some stunning dance and singing performances by employees. The gala event concluded
with congratulatory speeches by the senior management present at the occasion.

CONFERENCES & MEETS 12th EHS Forum 2016
30 EHS members from across the Group in India gathered for an interactive two-day meet at the 12th EHS Forum
in Bangalore on 26th and 27th February, 2016. The focus of the meet was to highlight the EHS achievements
and progress made during the previous year and to chalk out plans for the future. This was also the time for the
members to deliberate on specific topics such as the CSG EHS Standards, SG Glass Warehouse Label, Construction
Safety, SEFPRO Furnace Safety Label and Industrial Risk Prevention. The meeting gave an opportunity to all the
members to share their experience, best practices and decide on the priorities and action plans for the year ahead.

Flat Glass Business receives ‘Leadership in HR Excellence Award’ 2015 – second year in a row REWARDING MOMENTS
Saint-Gobain India Pvt. Ltd. – Flat Glass Business has been conferred with ‘Leadership in HR Excellence’ – a national
award, by the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII). The Flat Glass Business received this award for demonstrating
a robust and sustained system of HR practices. This coveted recognition makes it the first organization to reach this
level of distinction in 6 years since the conception of the award. Also, being consistent in its excellence journey, the
Business has been recognized as ‘Role Model in HR’. Saint-Gobain India Pvt. Ltd. – Flat Glass Business is the first
company to win this recognition at the national level.
Six dimensions in the areas of (1) Leadership (2) HR Strategy (3) Learning & Development (4) People Well Being and
Employee Engagement (5) HR Management Processes/Practices and (6) The Results as Performance and Perception
Indicators were considered as the framework for assessment.
The participating companies were assessed on a score of 1000 marks on stringent standards. An onsite assessment
was carried out by a panel of accredited HR Excellence Assessors. Flat Glass Business crossed the 600 marks barrier
to achieve the Leadership in HR Excellence Award. Out of the 33 companies that participated, only two crossed this
mark in 2015.

SGIPL – Glass Business declares winners of Transparence 2015 REWARDING MOMENTS
Transparence, India’s largest competition for students of Architecture and Design, organized by Saint-Gobain India
Pvt. Ltd. – Glass Business, is the annual forum to showcase student talent from the Colleges of Architecture and
Design in India. Every year, the competition draws huge participation from budding architects, who put their best
foot forward to win the Grand Finale.
The 10th edition of Transparence was a huge success. The event was held under the aegis of Saint-Gobain
Foundation Initiatives, Paris. Students from more than 100 elite architectural institutions across the country took
part in the competition that showcased unique architectural designs based on the theme ‘Social Mass Housing
for Smart Cities’. Eight finalists battled out for the most coveted prize at the Grand Finale held in March 2016
at Chennai. The winners received prize money of Rs.75,000, while two runner-up teams received Rs.50,000
and Rs.25,000 respectively as a token of appreciation. Three deserving participants received scholarship worth
Rs. 1,00,000 each for their ideas in the area of ‘Habitat to create Societal Impact’. The winners were adjudged by
a panel of eminent architects from India and overseas.
ArchumenPro, India’s largest quiz competition for Practicing Architects, was also organized as a part of the
celebration. Close to 100 firms across India participated in this competition. The winners received trophy and
cash award worth Rs.50,000, while
the runners-up received trophy
and cash award worth Rs. 30,000.

REWARDING MOMENTS GNO Abrasives wins Blue Way Award for its Digital Initiatives
GNO Abrasives received the Blue Way Award for
its digital initiatives under the ‘We and You’ axis of
the Blue Way program. The team won this award
for its ‘Ease of Dealing’ initiative which has been
developed for the distributors in India. The initiative
was considered to be the best from amongst other
competing projects across delegations.
The customer-centric approach of the Abrasives
business shines well through the ‘Ease of Dealing’
initiative. It is under this initiative that the company
upgraded its sales portal and launched two new
mobile applications – M Norton and Norton Sales
Force Automation (SFA).
The sales portal assists distributors to effectively manage their day to day transactions with the Abrasives team
while M Norton – the mobile application enables them to stay connected with the Norton business at any time
and from anywhere. The Norton SFA application, developed for the sales team in India, helps them to effectively
plan their activities in a structured manner. The application provides end-to-end visibility through secondary sales
tracking at various levels and enables taking quick business decisions.

Saint-Gobain India Delegation receives 2 Awards at the 55th ABCI Annual Awards 2015 REWARDING MOMENTS
The Saint-Gobain India Delegation received 2
awards at the 55th Association of Business
Communicators of India (ABCI) Annual Awards
2015 held in Mumbai on 18th March 2016. The
team received a Gold trophy for the ‘E-awareness
module on Zero Tolerance towards Sexual
Harassment at the workplace’ and a Bronze trophy
for the Saint-Gobain India Corporate Website.
This year, ABCI received over 1215 nominations
in 32 categories from over 90 companies across
the country. The Indian Delegation is the first to
develop the module on Zero Tolerance towards
Sexual Harassment at the workplace. The module
is available on Boost! and is open to all within
the Saint-Gobain Group. In India, more than 3000
employees have completed the e-awareness
module. The Saint-Gobain corporate website
was revamped in 2015 and was developed in
collaboration with marketing teams at Glass
and Gyproc. The award was received by Medha
Shanbhag on behalf of the Group in India.

REWARDING MOMENTS Grindwell Norton’s SiC plant – Tirupati achieves Bronze rating at the HSE Audit
GNO’s SiC (Silicon Carbide) plant at Tirupati achieved
Bronze level rating at the HSE (Health, Safety and
Environment) Label SiC Roadmap IV audit, which was
conducted in 2015 by SiC Business worldwide. It is the
first plant amongst the SiC plants within the Saint-Gobain
Group Worldwide to receive this certification. The audit
was based on SiC Label Road Map IV program that consists
of 31 Standards such as Industrial Hygiene, Mechanical
Sorting, Waste Management, Water Management etc. to
name a few. The plant scored more than 75% in all the
standards to qualify for this recognition.
Export Promotion Council felicitates Crystals Business
Saint-Gobain India Pvt. Ltd. - Crystals Business, received the Certificate of Excellence as Best EOU (Export
Oriented Unit) from the Export Promotion Council, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. The
award was presented to the Business for its outstanding
export performance during 2011-12 and 2012-13. Mr. K. S.
Gopalakrishnan - General Manager, Operations received
the trophy and the certificate at the ceremony held in
Bangalore on 26th November, 2015.
Exports contribute to about 85% of the turnover of
the Crystals Business. The Business caters majorly
towards Security, Industrial and Medical applications like
Radiation Detectors, Arrays and Pan Cake Detectors for
its customers based at USA, Europe, China and South
East Asia.

hostel accommodation needs of 58 girls staying at the
Sevalaya hostel near Chennai. Sevalaya is a registered
charitable trust established in 1988, with an objective
to provide high quality education to children from the
neighboring villages. Currently, it serves 40 villages in and
around Kasuva village about 50 kilometers from Chennai
which once had 100% child labour.
Tara Homes is a program run by an NGO called ONYVA
based out of Delhi that works for the welfare of street and
abandoned children. The NGO rescues street children and
nurtures them by providing quality education and shelter
to stay. A child can stay in these homes until he/she is
self-sufficient. Tara Homes has a separate shelter for girls
from the age group of 8 to 18 years. Every Tara Home
accommodates up to 20 children at a time. The Saint-
Gobain India Foundation will be supporting the education
and educational needs of 20 girls from Tara Homes.
