Manjedal Activity Centre

By Mr Dean Robinson

On Tuesday 8th December all Year 7 to 10 students from across the
state attended an excursion to the Manjedal Activities Centre. The
day involved a different morning and afternoon activity for each year
level. Some of the activities included raft building, abseiling, rock
climbing, archery, high ropes and crate climb. These activities were
chosen to promote teamwork, leadership and challenging oneself.
The students are to be commended for their positive attitude and
good behaviour. Thanks to all staff and parent helpers who also
attended and helped with supervision.

Smart Financial Choices
Inursion

By Mr Anthony Wong

We recently welcomed Start Smart to deliver their financial
education workshops to our Year 7-10 students. Delivered in class to
students by an engaging (and very funny) facilitator, Start Smart
changes the way young people learn about money. By making money
management interactive, engaging and fun, our students were
equipped with the confidence and competence they need to make
smart decisions about money.

Our school has proudly joined the Commonwealth Bank's Start Smart
Program in its mission to improve the financial literacy of Australia’s
young people. Overall, the program proved to be a highly beneficial
experience for students and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. For more
information on the program and each of the workshops we
encourage you to visit www.startsmart.com.au.

Student Leadership Forum

8th December 2015

At 11:00pm on the night of Monday the 7th of December the six WA Campus Captains
boarded a Qantas flight bound for Sydney. We arrived at Sydney airport at around
6:00am (EST), we talked our way through into the Qantas Club lounge to freshen up
and get ready for the day ahead. We then went by coach with other school leaders
who had flown in from Melbourne and at 9:00am arrived at Shepherds Bay House
the OneSchool National Head Office.

The day had started! It was an amazing experience and throughout the day we heard
from Mr Steve Hales, the three regional principals, Mr Paul Maher, Mrs Barbara
Bannister, Mr Simon Brooks and the 2015 ASLMT.

Then it was our turn. Each campus had to give a speech on their campus and what
their goals were for 2016. It was very interesting to see what other campuses do all
around Australia and it gave us a few very interesting ideas of what we can
implement at Woodthorpe School in 2016.

The afternoon consisted of a few teamwork activities including an impromptu debate
which was very entertaining and a group discussion session in which we had to come
up with new ideas to make learning at our school more enjoyable and effective. This
was followed by the revealing of the OneSchool National Song, which will be
published soon to all campuses.

To end the day we were able to air our brains playing a few volleyball games down at
the Meadowbank Oval. After the game we took the coach back to Sydney airport
and then flew back to Perth landing a little after 9:00pm. After almost 40 hours with
no sleep we all were looking forward to our beds that night!

This day was a huge eye opener of the amazing initiatives that go on behind the
scenes at OneSchool and we are looking forward to bringing many of these ideas and
initiatives to Woodthorpe School next year. A huge thank you to the OneSchool
National Management Team for organising this day and we hope we can come over
and see you all again soon. We also look forward to working with the other student
leaders from around Australia to bring our schools together as ‘One School’.

The Maze

by Ms Angela Mills

The excursion to The Maze was a great success and was attended by
all students from all campuses from Year 3 to Year 6. This excursion
was enjoyed by all teachers, parents and students. It was a fun filled
day of problem solving, team work and also overcoming fears by
showing sheer GRIT and determination when taking on the water
slides and when navigating through the twists and turns of the
several mind boggling mazes.

Every single student was on their best behaviour and the staff at The
Maze commented on how polite and respectful all the students at
our school are.

A huge thank you to the parents and teachers who helped out to
make it an awesome day.
