What is an ecosystem ?

An ecosystem is all of the living & non-living things in an environment. A ecosystem
describes a specific area where the organisms work together as a unit.

What is the Taiga Forest ?

The Taiga is one of the three main
forest biomes. Taiga is one of the driest
and coldest of the three. The Taiga is
sometimes called the boreal forest or
the coniferous forest. It is the largest of
all the land biomes.

The weather and climate of the taiga

The taiga is characterized by a cold, harsh climate, low rate of precipitation (snow and rain), and short growing season.
Long, severe winters last up to 6 months, with average temperatures below freezing. Summers are short, lasting maybe 50
to 100 days without frost.

The animals living in the taiga

Animals of the taiga. Mammals living in the taiga include foxes, lynxes, bears, minks, squirrels, while larger ones include grey
wolves and their preys: caribou, reindeers and moose. In winter, wolves hunt these herbivores in packs, often dividing
themselves into two groups to encircle their preys before attacking them ...

Where in the world are taiga forests located?

The taiga biome is the largest terrestrial biome and extends across Europe, North America, and Asia. It is located right
below the tundra biome. The taiga biome is also known as coniferous forest or boreal forest. This biome typically has short,
wet summers and long, cold winters.

Animal Adaptations on the taiga

Most animals migrate to warmer climates once the cold weather begins. Some animals have adapted to life in the taiga by
hibernating when temperatures drop. Other animals have adapted to the extreme cold temperatures by producing a layer of
insulating feathers or fur to protect them from the cold.

Fun facts about the taiga

Taiga Forest Facts. The Taiga forest is considered to be a wonder of the natural world, spanning a great deal of the
Northern Hemisphere's land. The Taiga forest is characterized by its diverse coniferous tree species, unique plants, animal
species, bird species, and lakes and wetlands.

The plants that are in the taiga

Not many plants can survive the extreme cold of the taiga winter. There are some lichens and mosses, but most plants are coniferous trees like pine,
white spruce, hemlock and douglas fir. Coniferous trees are also known as evergreens. They have long, thin waxy needles.
