LKM Accepted Material Safety Leaflet

LKM Accepted Material Safety Leaflet

LKM Recycling’s acceptance criteria of materials
to improve safety and quality.

To create a safer working environment for our staff
and the staff of our customers along the supply
chain, LKM Recycling will be following the guide-
lines set out in this leaflet.

These guidelines will also improve the quality of
material that we can supply and will thus keep our

prices competitive within the market

Materials creating hazards when included in bulk
ferrous scrap grades

-Closed/Pressurised Containers
-Munitions
- Batteries

- Radioactive Sources
-Fridges / Freezers

Pressurised / Closed Containers

Both Type A (pressurised) and Type B (non-pressurised)
containers including cylinders will not be accepted when

they are included or concealed in any bulk scrap metal
grades such as frag feed.

Any Pressurised or non pressurised containers can cause safety issues for
staff when concealed in a bulk grade of material. This makes handling or

processing of the material dangerous.
LKM Recycling will potentially still accept containers if they are clearly
marked and declared as such when brought in and not concealed in another

grade.

Munitions

Any type of munitions in any condition, live, spent or
dummy rounds must be excluded from general ferrous or

non ferrous grades.

Any munitions can cause safety issues to our staff when concealed in any
ferrous or non feerrous bulk grade of material.

LKM Recycling will potentially still accept munitions if they are clearly
marked as such and declared as a seperate grade when brought in and not

concealed in another grade.

Batteries

Any type of batteries will not be accepted, concealed in
bulk scrap metal grades such as frag feed. This includes

but isn’t limited to lead-acid, Lithium, mercury, nickel

Any batteries create a hazard when concealed in a bulk load of any ferrous or
non ferrous grade. Batteries contain corrosive substances and are a massive

fire risk. We will not accept any loads with concealed batteries
LKM Recycling can accept certain types of batteries if they are clearly
marked as such and declared as a seperate grade when brought in and not

concealed in another grade.

Radioactive Material

Any type of radioactive material will not be accepted in
anyway. Radioactive material must be dealt with by a

specialist waste management company

Including this material in with bulk scrap metal grades can contaminate the
site and put thousands of peoples lives at risk along the supply chain. LKM
operate a Zero tolerance policy towards radioactive material and will not
accept any load with radioactive material concealed in it.

Fridges / Freezers

Fridges & Freezers are classed as hazardous waste and
will not be accepted onto site.Any loads containing
fridges or freezers will incur a charge of £25 per unit.
