A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR

A Midsummer Night’s Dream is Shakespeare’s dream play: magical, relat-
able, versatile, flexible, and joyful!

At the time the play was selected, Covid restrictions in Santa Clara
County prohibited indoor performances, so we selected this script and
the Mayer Lawn as the story and space that gave us an opportunity to
welcome live theatre back to the Santa Clara University community. De-
spite being over 400 years old, this play is pandemic-appropriate as it
states “sickness is catching”, speaks of “contagious fogs”, and it address-
es a changing climate as Titania says, “the seasons alter” and worries
that the weather is so changed that the four seasons “know not which is
which”!

And of course, this is Shakespeare, so it speaks of the complexity and
folly of love!

We thank you for returning to our live performances and exploring this
rich play with us!

FOR YOUR INFORMATION

COVID Compliance | In an effort to keep our community safe as we reopen our venues, we
will be enforcing socially distanced seating of one (1) empty seat between parties. All patrons,
regardless of vaccination status, are required to wear a mask at all times. Anyone without a
proper mask, is not wearing one or is wearing one incorrectly will be offered a mask or asked to
secure their mask properly. After the initial request for compliance, those who do not comply
will be asked to leave the building.
Late Seating | Late patrons cannot be seated until intermission, or a designated break in the
performance. Patrons returning late from intermission will be seated at the discretion of the
House Manager.
Emergencies | In the event of a medical emergency, please locate the nearest usher and
inform him/her of the situation to summon medical help. In the event of an evacuation, please
gather in front of the theatre so we may ensure that all patrons have been cleared from the
building, as well as provide any additional information.

quests to the SCU•Presents Box Office at (408) 554-4015 or call TTY-California Relay at
