Health Committee
There are many different types of arthritis.

Some types run in families, and others are

related to body chemistry imbalances or

immune system problems. There are three

main types of arthritis: osteoarthritis,

rheumatoid, and gout.

Osteoarthritis is the breakdown of joint cartilage.
The symptoms are pain, stiffness, and swelling,
which are common in fingers, hips, and knees.
Rheumatoid arthritis is caused by inflammation
of the membrane lining the joint (the synovium.)
The symptoms are pain, stiffness, swelling in
multiple joints, and joints that may be “hot” and
red. Gout is the buildup of uric acid crystals in
the joint fluid. Symptoms include a sudden
onset of burning pain, stiffness, and swelling.

It might not be possible to prevent arthritis, but
there are some things that can be done to help
with arthritis.

 Try to control your weight
