Happy New Year to All!
This year we are embarking on a fantastic journey seeking great health, improved
vitality, and spiritual uplifting. If you have not made a New Year’s resolution, may I
suggest being good to your self. This includes eating good (healthy) foods, getting
proper rest (enjoy 6 to 8 hours of sleep each night) and engaging in some type of
exercise (walking is great!).
The benefit to your body will also be beneficial to your family and loved ones.
Encourage their participation in your new healthy lifestyle habits...you will all reap the
rewards. This year we will have guest speakers in our meetings who will give
valuable information on just how to get the most out of your new healthy lifestyle
habits — so stay tuned in!!

Marilyn Calhoun, Education Committee Chair
[email protected]
League Ladies, this month the H.E.E.D. Education Committee is offering the
membership a resource for personal and professional development through
reading a recommended article, and a call to action by NTBPWL, Inc. members
who live in the City of Dallas, interested in education of children in Dallas, or
who work within the Dallas Independent School District.
Chair, Marilyn Calhoun The quote of Harry S. Truman, “Not all readers are leaders, but all leaders are
readers,” is a true example of League Ladies who are leaders sharing readings
of interest, history, knowledge or news materials with each other. Here is one
reading material item which presents all areas to women leaders who read to be
educated and pass on the knowledge for personal development that will benefit
the community at-large.
The Journal of Career Development printed an article, From Mammy to
Superwoman: Images that Hinder Black Women’s Career Development. The
authors, Wendy Reynolds-Dobbs, Kecia M. Thomas, and Matthew S. Harrison
stated that their goal is to highlight the emerging literature on how images of
professional Black women align with their workplace experiences, and how
these experiences may derail their ability to fully reach their potential. They
bring up areas that occur often in workplace practice which Black professional
women should be made aware, observe their self-behavior and determine what
may or may not support their career development.
Stereotypical images of Black Women have implications beyond the workplace like home,
church and community perceptions. This article is a recommended read to enable League
members to be knowledgeable of the issues and be supportive of the future encounters when
seen in our sisters, daughters and friends for their career development. The education program
committee will make available to members a full text, PDF copy to read on your own and to
share with others.
What important characteristics do you think the new Dallas Independent School District
Superintendent should have? A third of our League membership resides in Dallas and should
be proactive by participating in the Dallas Superintendent Search Survey. We can let our
voices be meaningful and take an active role in the education process by giving our input
individually. The survey is open to anyone interested in the education of children. Go to the
link, http://DallasISDSurvey.com and complete the survey. After completing the short survey,
you will receive a copy of the survey you submitted online for your records as well as an EYR
document for education. Thank you in advance for your participation.

Unity Prayer
For the New Year!
Heavenly Father,
I come to You now and ask that You instill in our organization Your abiding love for
all people, regardless of their race, their religion, or differences that make them seem
too far apart to accept (Romans 13:8 amp). They are all Your creations and You desire
that they all be saved.
We pray that You give us the wisdom to relate to them, according to Your Will
(Romans 13:10 amp). Let us show the true face of a Christian when addressing
people that seem different from us (Leviticus 19:18). Let us know Your purpose for
them being placed in our path and what ministry each one needs. We ask You, Lord,
to help us to show all people the unconditional love that You have always shown us,
and that this may open the door for us to share with them Your Perfect Plan of
Salvation through Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior (James 2:8).
Amen
