History of Me

By Ava Jimmerson

Geography

This past May my family and I went to Florida for a cheer competition. My dad, mom,
brother, and I boarded a red eye flight, after several hours we arrived early in the
morning on the opposite end of the coast. Even though it was early, we ate at the
Waffle House, dropped our bags at the hotel and changed so that we could spend the
day at Universal Studios Orlando. We went on Harry Potter themed rides, walked
through Diagon Alley, and even drank Butterbeer. When we got back to the hotel my
Tia was there waiting for us, for dinner. Since my cousin and I were on the same
team, our two families shared our condo. We went out to eat dinner, and then went
to bed. We had a long day the next day. The next few days were a whirlwind. There
were practices, routine changes and lots of stress. We were competing against the
top teams in the world. Only ten percent of teams make it to Florida, and then only
10 percent of those teams make it to day two. We made it in the top five, and at the
end of it all, we ended up ranking fourth in the world! After all that we were finally
able to enjoy more of Florida. We visited Disney World, saw signs warning people
about alligators, and swamps everywhere. It was a really great experience.

Religion

Every year since I was little, my grandpa would take to the Obon. The Obon is a
festival to honor the spirits of your ancestors. It is a Japanese Buddhist tradition
which is hosted at the Gardena Buddhist temple and lasts for three days. It is always
packed with people dancing, buying crafts and food, and playing carnival games. It is
a celebration similar to Dia de los Muertos. For the annual festival people dress up in
traditional Kimonos, and others bring fans for the fan dance and Kachi Kachi for that
dance. The dances help celebrate the spirits of the loved ones who have past on. This
year I went with my aunt and my cousins and danced in honor of my Grandpa Bob.

Achievements

An invention that has changed my life in a big way is the iphone. I got my first iphone when
I was in fourth grade. It was a way to communicate with my mom and dad while they were
in Europe. That phone was for entertainment, quick communication, and emergencies. My
life would be way different without my phone. I wouldn't be able to get in contact with my
parents when I needed them. I would have no source of entertainment on long road trips or
be able to play white noise so that i could go to sleep. I also would not have my phone for
studying and finding information for school. I have a great tool for information always at my
fingertips. My phone is a huge part of my life without it I’m sure nothing would be the same.

Politics

Our three important household rules are, education always comes first, keep your
room clean, and do not fight or bicker with my brother. If we break one of these rules
disciplinary repercussions can vary anywhere from a stern talking to, to technology
and privileges being taken away. As I get older, the rules are changing a little, for
instance, when I was younger I had less activities so it was easier to juggle doing
school work and outside life. There were also chores added to cleaning my room
when I got older, such as as also washing the dishes and straightening up the living
room. Last but not least, as I got older I had to be reminded more often to not fight
with my brother.

Economics

My household chores are to clean my room and the living room, wash the dishes, and the
dog’s food and water full. For doing my chores I do not get an allowance because our family
believes that you should want to keep your clean and not have to be paid to do it. However,
doing chores can earn a sleep over if my room is clean enough for my friends to come over. I
can also earn more electronic time if I do my chores without being asked. One job that I am
interested in having at the moment is an occupational therapist because I would be able to
help people who have autism and learning disabilities grow and learn. The second job is to
be an anesthesiologist because it seems like a cool job to have.

Social
Structures

My family is big, crazy, and culturally diverse. My mom’s name is Holly Anderson and she is
half Danish and half Mexican. My dad’s name is Alton Jimmerson and he is Black. My
Grandma on my mom’s side is Mexican and my Grandpa was Danish, and my other grandpa
is Japanese. My Grandma and Grandpa on my dad’s side is Black. I love learning about my
cultures and the traditions we have. As a family, my brothers Cameron and AJ, and my sister
Kaity and I like to have game nights with the family. We also watch tv together, and we like
to make fun of each other. I love my family.
