Xin Chao,
Salam Sejahtera Rakyat Malaysia in Vietnam.

Year 2021 had ended and we are embracing Year
2022.We hope that Year 2022 – the Year of the
Tiger, will bring us more positive vibes and
prosperity as the world economy sets for
encouraging rebound.

Looking back to 2021, it had been a difficult year as
COVID-19 was at its peak. For the Consulate-
General, we saw it coming then, and had since
vigorously calling for the registration of
Malaysians residing in Southern Vietnam. In
order to facilitate quicker registration, we had it
made easy using the QR code that would link with
our FB, Twitter and webpage. All in all, we have
about 780 registered Malaysians and families. I
urge Malaysians who had not registered with the
Consulate, to cooperate with us by quickly do so.
The registration records were not only resourceful
to facilitate / expedite the request for vaccination
for Malaysians from the Host Government
Vietnam, but it was also crucial for consular cases
related to overstay, quarantine and loss of lives
due to the pandemic. At this juncture, I would
also extend my sincere thanks to Malaysians who
work together with the Consulate-General in
terms of assisting other Malaysians who are in
need during difficult times i.e. Malaysian
companies and Malaysia Business Chamber in
Vietnam.

Now that most of the countries around the world
are on their recovery track including Malaysia and
Vietnam, for fellow Malaysians, I hope businesses
will be on a more encouraging trajectory and
families will again unite. I wish you all the best of
health and happiness. For those celebrating
Chinese New Year, have a prosperous New Year.

AGAINST COVID-19

The year 2021 was a tough year. Statistics of Covid-19
cases surged drastically in Ho Chi Minh City during the
months of June to August 2021 where cases recorded
reached a few thousands per day. For the Consulate-
General, we continuously call for registration of
Malaysians since the beginning of last year 2020. For
this year, we further improved the registration system of
Malaysians in Southern Vietnam using QR Code. The QR
Code registration was dissimilated through the
Consulate’s webpage and SocMed (Facebook & Twitter).

As cases of Covid-19 in Vietnam continued to surge during
the 2nd half of the year, the Consulate General persistently
followed-up with the local authorities in Ho Chi Minh City
and the People’s Committee to secure opportunities of
vaccines for fellow Malaysians. In then same time, we
gathered information/ feedbacks of vaccine roll-out in
various areas in Ho Chi Minh City. Furthermore, we directed
registered Malaysians to quickly register for vaccines with
related local health authorities. Notices to registered
Malaysians on vaccines roll-out were provided numerous
time through SocMed and emails. In the same time, we
continue to educate Malaysians on the prevention measures
against the disease through communal messages on the
pandemic and surveys.

During the first quarter of 2021, Ho Chi Minh City was
still able to host the flower festival during TET
celebration. For the first time after so many years, the
Malaysian Consulate General together with Tourism
Malaysia participated in the flower booth exhibition in
Nguyen Hue Street. The exhibition was held from 9 - 12
February 2021.

The Consulate General of Malaysia in Ho Chi Minh City successfully organized a Zumba
session in conjunction of Hari Sukan Negara 2021 on 9 October 2021. This is the first time
that this event has been held jointly by both Malawakil Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The
event was held in a hybrid format with the participation of both in Northern and Southern
Vietnam virtually together with the Embassy and Consulate officials, members of the
PERWAKILAN HCMC as well as other Malaysians living in Vietnam.

ENGAGEMENT WITH

LOCAL GOVERNMENT

Despite the pandemic year 2021 was a busy year with various engagement with the
local government. With the new leadership in the local political setup, the foreign
missions in Ho Chi Minh City including Malaysia on 14 April 2021. The meeting was
to brief the diplomatic corps about the new Thu Duc City and the preparation of the
host government in handling the pandemic.

The Department External Relations of Ho Chi Minh City held an online meeting with
the Consulate Generals of ASEAN countries on the occasion of the 54th Anniversary
of the establishment of the ASEAN Community on August 8, 2021. Mr. Tran Phuoc
Anh chaired the meeting. The Consul Generals held a fruitful discussion with the
Director General of Department External Relations in particular preparation/
strategies for vaccination for foreigners residing in Ho Chi Minh City.

PERWAKILAN HCMC was honoured to be
invited to the Morning Coffee hosted by
Madam Pai Saiklang, spouse of Consul
General of Switzerland on 19 March 2021.
The event was also attended by a number of
spouses of Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh
City.



During the Morning Coffee, the ladies had the
opportunity to network with other
representatives of the consular
missions.Madam Pai also shared her
experience about Switzerland.

The highlight of PERWAKILAN HCMC for
2021 was the participation and the
performance of the association in the open
day of the International School of Ho Chi
Minh City (ISHCMC). The outreach by
PERWAKILAN HCMC was pivotal as
education and cultural diplomacy – besides
introducing education. In Malaysia,
PERWAKILAN HCMC also promoted
Malaysia’s local delicacies including “Ais
Batu Campur” and “cekodok pisang.”
