As I started the newsletter, I nearly typed February because Mother Nature has not been kind
this spring. What month are we in anyway? It’s been a slow--frustrating start to our golf season in
Sioux Falls for all of us. Temperatures have been very low and winds very high. Normally at this
point we have charged the irrigation and began running it. This year that hasn’t happened yet with
overnight lows still dropping well below freezing in the 20’s. At this point we have usually mowed
all greens, tees, and fairways and much of that hasn’t happened yet. The course and grass just
aren’t ready yet. The dry winter conditions and cold spring temps have the grass in the dormant
“yellow stage”, and we even have frost in the ground in some places. The Masters has come and
gone, and Easter has arrived, yet we have no green grass and spring isn’t in the air. Heck, there is
snow in the forecast for Easter which could make for a tough egg hunt!

Despite the delay in our golf season, we are ready and excited to enjoy golf and so much more
with everyone. We have accomplished a few things and are also waiting for some exciting stuff that
has been delayed due to the economy, life and weather. In this addition of the newsletter, I want to
focus on the facilities at Kuehn Park. One noticeable change and improvement will be new
synthetic turf at the back of the practice facility that has been installed and is nearly ready for use.
This is the same great stuff we added at Prairie Green and should really help the practice
experience each spring and fall as well as on wet days. Our second project at Kuehn Park will
happen as soon overnight lows rise, and temps stay consistent so we can give the clubhouse a new
paint job.

We are looking forward to these changes and additions as well as the start of some new staffing.
Many of the popular hard-working staff will be back for 2022 including Ken Shively the leader of
one of the largest, most popular ladies’ leagues in the Country (WESU). However, one individual,
Brian Farkas has returned to Florida to be near family. Brian did a great job and will be missed.
New staff filling his role will be Adam Lawrence who moves over from Elmwood and Evan Smith
who joins us from the Quad Cities. These two young men are excited to get started and continue
the great service and experience previously provided by Brian and those returning for 2022.

I have said this many times to Pass Holders and patrons that frequently play Elmwood & Prairie
Green. Kuehn Park is a fun and very good golf experience. Don’t sleep on Kuehn Park in 2022 if you
have not played it. It is every bit as good and fun as the other courses in the portfolio. Give it a try
in 2022 and I promise you won’t be disappointed. In addition, you will have extra time for errands
and life after playing because it’s so quick and easy to play.
I hope the weather improves soon and I look forward to seeing everyone when it does on the
course.

watching compete in athletics. In my spare
time I enjoy getting away to our lake home in

Here we are entering the third year of the City Series presented by Coors Light. The City Series was
created to ensure "Fun Fore Everyone" whether you are a beginner, enjoy golf with your family, or are a
more competitive player. Not only do these unique events continue to grow in popularity each year, but
this season we have added two new exciting events that we hope you'll enjoy.

The first new event will be the first ever Par 3 Championship at Kuehn Park. We have partnered with
First Class Dental Care to create a nice prize purse for whoever brushes up on their irons & shows off
their squeaky clean short game. As a solo event the winners will rack up some serious Mayor's Cup
Points, so you won't want to miss this event! We also added a new Family Foresome Fun Scramble to the
calendar this season. Our friends at Sioux Falls Audiology Associates would like to invite all families to
take part in this fun-filled event at Elmwood! Be sure to join us for our two 9-hole Adult/Junior
tournaments as well.

The 2022 City Series tees off the season on May 14th with one of our most popular events, the Asics
Scramble, formerly known as the Cleveland/Srixon Scramble. This year each player will receive their
choice of a pair of Asics golf shoes or a Cleveland RTX wedge with their entry. This event will also be a
Mayor's Cup qualifier along with the Miller Lite Ultimate 2-Person Challenge, a 27-hole event that
showcases three different formats & all three courses at Elmwood. The last Mayor's Cup qualifier on the
City Series calendar will be the 2022 City Championship brought to you by Kinesio Care Center. Last year
Jack Lundin hoisted the championship belt in a playoff thriller. For more on the Mayor's Cup & how you

If you are looking for something more laid back on the links, look no further! Once again Wildflower
Construction & The Event Company have teamed up to put on three Couples Themed Nights at Prairie
Green. These fill very fast & include everything you need to have a good time with your significant other.
If you're looking for a more competitive event with your main squeeze then don't miss out on our
Couples Championship on August 27th & 28th.

Our two new night events in 2021 will be back & better than ever this year thanks to Harris Law & Co.
The Night On the East Nine glow ball event sold out very fast & was a blast as soon as the sun went down!
If you missed the inaugural Fast 5 Under the Lights, well you'll have two chances to experience this one-
of-a-kind event. Once again we will be lighting up the Fast 5 at Elmwood with live music from Caskmates
& a beer garden to create the party of the summer! This year’s Fast 5 Under the Lights event will take
place the same weekend as the Sanford International, so be sure to stop by Friday & Saturday night after
enjoying Sioux Falls’ own PGA TOUR Champions event.

Changes For 2022!

We are always trying to find new ways to enhance your experience when you
play at your city courses. This year we have a couple things that we hope you will
take advantage of when visiting this season such as new combo tees & artificial
turf on the driving range at Kuehn Park.

In 2019 we rolled out new artificial turf on the Prairie Green driving range & it
didn't take long for us to see the benefits of doing so. This year we ripped out the
old turf at Kuehn Park & laid down all new state of the art turf. This hitting area
will be great for early spring days when the grass isn't ready to be hit off of &
days when the ground is too soggy. We made sure to get extra durable, thick turf
to ensure you get the best feel when working on your game. We encourage you
to take advantage of the new turf when needed at Kuehn Park this year & many
more to come!

Another wrinkle for this season is the addition of our Combo Tees. For 2022 we
are proud to officially provide our members and patrons with The Player’s Combo
Tees as well as The Senior Combo Tees.

This combination of the Blue/Gold and Gold/Red tees has been in the works for a
couple of years and with the help of Tom Jansa and the SDGA, we finally have them
rated. This means rounds played from the new Combo Tees can now be posted for
handicapping purposes. With the Blue Tees playing too long for some and the Gold
Tees not long enough for others, we always felt our members and patrons would
enjoy another option that took the guess work out of it. We also created The Senior
Combo Tees for this same reason. The Player’s Combo Tees will not only give our
members and patrons a new experience during their casual rounds, but also
improve their experience for our Tournament Series Events. So the next time you
are at Elmwood or Prairie Green give the Combo Tees a try!

These are just a few of the improvements we have added for your enjoyment in
2022. We have more plans in the works for this season, so stay tuned for more!
