Xmas
traditions
As children, many of us have fond memories of Christmas
because of those great family traditions. And now that we
have families of our own, we are creating our own unique
traditions. Here's some insight into how a member of the
Toluna Team celebrates Christmas.
At the end of Nov or early
Dec, we normally decide
on a colour theme before
putting up a Christmas
tree. We've switched over
to a real tree for 2 years
now, as it makes the
house smell wonderful
and festive. As we
decorate the tree
together, we talk about
our day and think back on
everything that's
happened in the past year.
The kids love picking
where to place their
favourite ornaments, and
we decide together what
to place at the top of the
tree - this year, it's a star!

I remember counting down to Christmas and being so excited - so an
advent calendar is a must have in our home. We have one that's made
up of little wooden houses. Each day, my husband and I take turns to
leave notes with clues on where to find a
little gift such as chocolates, lollies, toys, gold coins, etc. It's something
for the kids to look forward to and enjoy while they are still young - and I
must admit that I like it too!
Christmas day will be spent with our extended family - eating, talking,
playing games, and of course opening gifts. This year, everyone will
meet up on the Gold Coast, so it'll be lots of fun, sun and sand - we can't
wait and hope you'll have a good one too.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from my family to yours!

Christmas

Toluna Influencers from around the world share how they
celebrate Christmas!
As Orthodox Christians in Greece,
between 15th Nov until Christmas
day, we do not eat any animal or
dairy products, or alcohol. Greek
people also prepare different
types of sweets and biscuits for
Christmas - such as
melomakarona and kourabiedes.
Christmas in Portugal is all about
eating. Many families usually eat
cooked codfish, cabbage and
potatoes. And even though many
people don't like it, it's tradition to
have "Bolo Rei" on the table. This
is a type of cake made with dried
fruits. It has a hole in the centre
and looks like a crown.
PAGE 7
In France, we usually gather
together and make a big meal on
the 24th of December. We start
with smoked salmon, fois gras,
oysters and snails. As the main
course, we eat the traditional
Christmas turkey, served with
potatoes, green beans,
mushrooms or chestnuts. Of
course, we consume lots of wine
and finish the meal with cheese!
The 25th of December in Brazil is
a day for family and religious
reflection. As it's also the middle
of summer, the festivities are
celebrated in a tropical climate.
We usually feast on the night
before Christmas, and sometimes
even takes place around
midnight. The food is influenced
by many different cultures - Italy,
Spain and Portugal, but also
Germany

with the community something that you want to do or achieve in
the coming year

THE 2010s
D E C A D E R E C A P
So much has happened this year, let alone the past 10 years.
While there have been some grim and depressing events in the
world, we thought it would be fun to look back at some of the
lighter things you may have forgotten about.
The first iPad came out in 2010 - making tablets a tech staple
Wills and Kate got married in 2011
Planking was also a viral trend in 2011. Why? Nobody knows
Remember "Kony 2012"? Yikes!
Or "Gangnam Style", also from 2012
In 2013, the "Harlem Shake" went viral, while in 2014, everyone
poured buckets of ice on themselves for ALS awareness
Was that dress from 2015 black and blue or white and gold?
The world went crazy over Pokémon Go in 2016
Fidget spinners - if 2017 were a toy
2018 was Harry and Meghan's turn down the isle
Earlier this year, we got to see the first ever photo of a black
hole - a huge moment in scientific history
