Spring it on! Let me introduce myself.

My name is Zara and I am the new

Community Manager. A little about

me - I love the outdoors, music, food,

photography, being around family

and friends, and writing.



For our May magazine, we’re

featuring a few influencers’ favorite

spring activities, movie reviews and a

influencer playlist from the {virtual}

road trip. In addition, if you’re

interested in sports, news or in our

week full of Mother’s Day Contests

Both my sister's and my birthdays

are in May, 11 days apart (she's 5
years older). Every year we try to do

something together. I also enjoy

going for walks around the
neighborhood and watching the

season come into full bloom. I live

near two waterfront parks and its
always nice to walk through and

enjoy the view.

I love the spring. I start the spring

off with blowing all the leaves out

of my flower beds, so I can watch
all the flowers start blooming.

Golf: Tiger Woods won his first

NFL Draft: From April 25th - April
27th, the NFL teams found their

future stars. The New York Giants
found their potential replacement

College Basketball: The Men's

NCAA basketball tournament winner
this year was Virginia. For the

women's NCAA basketball
tournament, the winner was Baylor.

"Steel Magnolias" or Six Southern Belles, in my words, is based on a 1987 play by Robert

Harling and is about six Southern women who become friends despite their widely
different lives and interests. They take weekly meetings in a local beauty parlor and seem
to be having a lot of fun and sisterly love. It would tug at your heart as one of these loyal

friends, Shelby, and her husband, Jackson, are given the gift of parenthood. When
Jackson Jr, their son, is around one year old this young Mother's life is taken by

complications from her treatment for her kidney illness and you will cry for the loss of
both her family of friends and her husband and child. But at the birth of another child
you are reminded of the beauty, mystery and joy of the circle of life. This is a must see

movie for a girl's night out as long as you have a box of tissues and a heart ready to be
reminded that each day, each person and each friend is a gift. So, if you plan on watching

this movie remember no matter where you live, North or South, with your best friend by
your side you can be as strong as steel or as gentle as a magnolia.

Steel Magnolias

Steel Magnolias may be nothing more than

manipulative high class soap opera, but it is a
soap opera that works, thanks to a good script

and some first class performances by an
excellent cast. If you are looking for edge or
your seat drama, you're shopping in the wrong

store here. What you do get is a story about
relationships. The main focus is the story of a

friendship between five women, each
character totally different, but very well

defined by the five actresses who portray
them. There is also a major story about the

relationship between a Mother and Daughter,
some minor stories involving girlfriend and
boyfriend, and husband and wife.

Steel Magnolias is an 80's comedic drama based upon a play and real life story of Robert

Harling with a powerful cast including Julia Roberts, Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley Maclaine,
Tom Skerrit, Olympia Dukakis, and etc. The movie / story follows the lives of these intertwined,

close nit friendships as they experience the comedy and tragedy of life in a Southern town.
Furthermore, it provides a view into the world of Diabetes and how a patient ( Shelby - Julia
Roberts ) and her family functions with how the disease impacts all aspects of one's life.

However, the movie isn't singularly focused on the this story line. The personalities, traits,
situations of each person is displayed in a realistic manner with equally realistic life situations,

while showing how one come can overcome differences in a community and pull together to
support each other. The movie emotionally illustrates love, work, celebration, family, faith,

friendships, relationships, life, tragedy, and death. And, the viewer can relate to the characters
and situations that they face as we all go through similar experiences in life. It's a soulful look

into all of us when we are the most vulnerable like a flower and, also, most strong and resilient
like steel. This is a movie that makes a lasting impact with one or multiple viewings.

As dainty as a southern flower but with the toughness of steel, that describes the ensemble
of women in Steel Magnolias. The movie opens on the day of a lavish southern home

wedding and ends years later on the day of a birth, completing a cycle of life events that put
you through the ringer. You will laugh, mainly at Shirley McLaine's hilarious rough-spirited
Ouiser Boudreaux, and you will cry as you watch each woman go through her own trials and
tribulations. It is especially emotional as you watch Julia Roberts' character fight through her
health issues, and even more so after finding out the writer based the film on his sister's real

battle with diabetes. Sally Fields is the matriarch of the film. Really she is Julia Roberts'
mother in the film, but as the film progresses you get the sense that she is everyone's
mother. She doles out advice, sometimes unrequested, and helps everyone through many

tough decisions and life struggles, while going through her own internal struggle. You see so
much of a mother's love in this film and a mother's pain, how much a mother is willing to
sacrifice for her child. It's a beautiful thing, one we can oftentimes take for granted.

Steel Magnolias is a classic! I personally don’t watch a lot of
older movies, especially if they are from the 80’s, but this
one is hard not to miss. Steel Magnolias centers around 6
women all of different ages and lifestyles. They all gather at
a hair salon owned by Truvy Jones played by Dolly Parton.
They eventually become very close to one other throughout

the ups and downs of each of their lives. What really makes
this movie so great is the cast and how well they portrayed
their characters. The cast makes this movie worth watching
for the drama, the laughs, the sadness, the headaches of

dealing with friends and family drama, especially mothers
and daughters, as well as mourning death. Steel Magnolias
was very well written and the actors are great at expressing
their emotions in the film. I would definitely recommend
watching it if you still haven’t as I wasn’t even born when it

was out. It is one of those movies that lives on no matter
how old it is.

Steel Magnolias is one of my most favorite movies of all time. It’s funny, it’s very serious
and the cast is perfect together. I love all the characters, but especially Olympia Dukakis
and the always funny Shirley McLain. I use the one liner “I love you more than my luggage”.

I think one thing from this movie, that stood out in my mind all these years is the
awareness of how serious diabetes can be. Maybe I am not the only one that was under
the false impression that diabetes was ‘just a normal condition that you might not be able
to eat sugar’ and nothing more. That, as we all know, is not the whole story. It was heart
breaking to see how M’Lynn (Sally Field) suffered the loss of her precious daughter. After

her pregnancy and leaving her with a sweet grandson, but in exchange it worsened her
diabetes condition. I loved how these women were such good friends, and were able to
laugh, argue and yet each still knew they were always there for one another.It’s a
wonderful story of family, friends, good times and extreme sorrow, and yet life does go on.

It does change, but it goes on. Hopefully. It is without a doubt one of the best movies ever.

Steel magnolias is a star-studded movie that shows you all that life can throw at you. It
deals with love, grief, joy etc. and the love of family and friends, of having a strong circle
of loving people surrounding you. It shows you how each character has its own journey

that they have to deal with, it makes you laugh and makes you cry, you can definitely
identify with all the different situations that each character faces. It’s a loving movie of life
and it’s struggles and how people deal. It also makes you think and in the end appreciate
life or at least that’s how it was for me. The bond between them is uncanny and makes

think about the bonds we share with our own family members and friends and
appreciate that more or at least look into the dynamics in your own surroundings. You
feel so connected with the characters that this movie makes it one of those “I can always
watch” movies and one you will always turn to when you feel like watching something
heartwarming. Steel magnolias is a classic, in my list with actors I love, and one I always

recommend in watching.
