your funeral in advance while
ensuring that sufficient funds
are set aside to cover expenses.

By establishing an interest-earning Mount
Sinai Funeral Trust, you’ll help defray the
vast majority of the costs of your funeral
— leaving your loved ones with little or no
additional financial responsibility. While
Mount Sinai cannot guarantee that all of the
incurred expenses will be covered (given
inflation or higher costs in the future), a
Funeral Trust is the sensible way to insulate
your family and loved ones from financial
stress during an emotional time.
Many people are familiar with the idea of
purchasing burial property in advance but
may not have considered or been aware
of the additional costs associated with a
funeral. These items include, but are not
limited to:

nursing facility to the Mortuary

»» Use of the funeral coach (hearse)

WHAT EXACTLY IS A
FUNERAL TRUST?

It’s a clearly worded document which
provides specific instructions and direction
about how you prefer to have your funeral
service conducted. By creating your Funeral
Trust, it will allow you to define

the most to you

»» Which Jewish religious customs and

rituals you wish to incorporate
»» Your choice of casket
»» Your preference of Rabbi
»» What public notification you desire, if any
»» Your preferences for speakers, music

or readings

HOW IT WORKS

Once you have made choices about the
options available to you, Mount Sinai will
calculate current costs and establish a
Funeral Trust value. According to the laws
of the State of California, the services and
products you specify and include in your
Trust are considered irrevocable once your
Trust is fully funded.
Because it is difficult to anticipate cost
escalations for services to be provided
at a future date, Mount Sinai helps your
loved ones cover price increases by
paying interest into your Trust. A Mount
Sinai Funeral Trust pays 3% interest per
year. If you elect to allow this interest to
be added to the principal, at the time of
need, Mount Sinai will pay an added special
interest credit equal to the amount of the
accumulated interest.
It is Mount Sinai’s experience over our
60 year history that the additional funds
generated by these interest payments are
usually sufficient to fund most or all of the
funeral costs – eliminating the need for any
loved one or family member to shoulder a
significant financial burden.
Unlike other pre-need programs which
require interest payments from you if not
paid in full at the time of your purchase,
your Trust will earn interest on whatever
amount you have paid.

MEMORIAL RECORD
AND GUIDE

As part of your Funeral Trust, we will work
with you to fill out a Memorial Record and
Guide. The Memorial Record and Guide is
a document to record your vital statistics
as well as information regarding your
education, military service and occupational
history. There is an area to list close friends
and family members you wish to have
contacted; membership in civic or social
organizations; honors you’ve received or
special distinctions you’ve achieved, and
public offices held.
Some of this data is required to complete
your funeral arrangements in accordance
with state law.
By incorporating this record into your Trust,
we help you leave a legacy of knowledge
about yourself and prior generations
that could otherwise be lost forever. This
permanent record of vital personal and
family information, which is held in strictest
confidence, serves as an important reference
for your children, loved ones and counselors.
