INTRODUCTION

Why is sleep necessary? One of the most
crucial things you can do for your body is
sleep since it allows it to rejuvenate and
prepare for the next day's activities. When
you begin to feel sleepy at night, it means
that your body has had enough and that
you need to take a break. Because many
of us have evolved into night owls who
like to do things at night rather than
during the day, many people don't get
enough sleep at night. We must learn to
break these unhealthy behaviours by
highlighting the importance of getting
enough sleep.

Watching TV shows late at night when we
have to get up early the next day may be a
bad habit like this. According to the U.S.
National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration, sleepy driving causes close
to 100,000 traffic accidents annually,
resulting in more than 1,500 fatalities and
over 70,000 injuries. The majority of sleepy
driving collisions involving lone drivers take
place between midnight and six in the
morning. Adults should sleep an average of
eight hours every night, according to the
World Health Organization. According to the
New Straits Times of July 9, 2020, a lot of
car accidents are brought on by insufficient
sleep. Lack of sleep can be harmful.

INTRODUCTION

Studies have demonstrated that
those who are sleep deprived for
merely one night exhibit cognitive
impairments comparable to those
of people who are legally drunk.
Accidents due to drowsy driving
are brought on by two things. The
first person that comes to mind is
someone who falls asleep while
driving. But the most typical
reason is a momentary attention
lapse brought on by microsleep.
During microsleep, the brain is
momentarily cut off from the
outer world. Two seconds could
mean the difference between
someone's life ending or being
changed forever if the steering
wheel is misaligned or the pedal
is accidently over pressed. Even
worse, when we are sleep
deprived, we are unaware of how
sleep deprived we are!

BODY

Many studies have linked short sleep,
which is defined as sleeping for fewer
than 7 hours per night, with a higher
risk of weight growth and a lower body
mass index (BMI). In fact, a 2020
investigation discovered that those
with less than 7 hours of sleep each
night had a staggering 41 percent
higher risk of being obese. Longer naps
did not raise the risk, though. It is
believed that a variety of elements,
including hormones and exercise
motivation, affect how much sleep
contributes to weight growth.

For instance, lack of sleep causes
ghrelin levels to rise while leptin
levels fall. Leptin and ghrelin are
two hormones that affect how
hungry or full we feel. This might
make us feel more hungry and
overeat. Numerous studies have
shown that persons who lack sleep
have greater appetites and eat
more calories. When you don't get
enough sleep, you can crave foods
that are higher in sugar and fat to
make up for your lack of energy.

BODY

It has been demonstrated that sleep improves
athletic performance. Numerous studies have shown
that getting adequate sleep enhances our ability to
solve problems and use fine motor skills, reaction
time, and physical strength. Sleep will help athletes
calm their racing hearts. This can help your body
recover from physical exertion. As you progress
through the stages of sleep, changes in your heart
rate and breathing throughout the night promote
cardiovascular health. The athlete will recuperate
and stay healthy by getting enough sleep. While you
sleep, your body produces cytokines, which are
substances that help the immune system fight
illnesses. Lack of sleep might make you more likely
to be injured when exercising and make you less
enthusiastic. Therefore, getting enough sleep can
be exactly what you need to improve your
performance.

CONCLUSION

Sleep ought to be as significant
as regular exercise and a healthy
diet. The National Sleep
Foundation will celebrate its
annual Sleep Awareness Week to
raise awareness of the
importance of sleep for safety
and productivity as well as its
health benefits. Your safety and
quality of life are all improved by
getting enough sleep, as are your
physical and emotional well-
being. All forms of learning
benefit from a good night's sleep
since it improves focus,
judgement, and creativity. In our
adult life, we must all get roughly
eight hours of sleep. Consider it
this way: You must spend roughly
one-third to one-fourth of your
day recharging your batteries in
order to prepare for the balance
of the day. It may be an hour less
or an hour more.
