ARK-1 NURSE CALL
APPLIANCE

IP-ARK-1

• The first Nurse Call Appliance available on the market
• Smaller form factor, can be rack- or wall-mounted
• Industrial-grade – built for reliability and durability

Austco ARK-1

The Austco ARK-1 Nurse Call Appliance offers a guaranteed
5-year product lifecycle. Nurse Call systems need to operate
reliably for a long period of time in harsh environments,
including extreme temperatures, areas of electromagnetic
interference (EMI), vibration, dirt, moisture and corrosion. It
is important that operations personnel purchase equipment
specifically designed for these harsher environments and
high availability. While traditional commercial solutions are
ideal for low-reliability enterprise applications, they may
not necessarily be designed to withstand severe conditions
as those found in most healthcare environments.
With its small form-factor, the ARK-1 is ideal for facilities
with limited server space which do not want to sacrifice
performance or durability. The ARK-1 can be rack or
wall-mounted, is developed to Austco R&D specifications
and is fully supported by Austco.
Austco’s newly released ARK-1 will supersede legacy

Water resistant, wall or ceiling mounted callpoints that initiate
calls on the Tacera Nurse Call System. The cord has a wipe-clean
surface and has its own strain relief to ensure reliable operation
without any possibility of damage. Standard features include a
reassurance LED, tone sounder for audibly or visually impaired
patients and call mute mode for cleaners.

Pull Cord Callpoints fit into standard electrical wall boxes, reducing
installation times and costs. Manufactured from an
impactresistant polycarbonate / ABS plastic, all Pull Cord

immediate use. Once connected, the callpoint is quickly and easily
assigned to a room using a browser, which simplifies the process
and reduces the cost of installation and commissioning.

The system continuously checks the functionality of each device
and immediately notifies maintenance staff if any problem is
detected. Pull Cord Callpoints are hot swappable, making
maintenance a breeze – simply replace a callpoint and use a
browser to quickly configure the new device.

The pull cord incorporates a weak-link break point as a safety
measure. The pull cord can support up to 2 kg (4.416 lbs) of

• Simplified cabling from room to room T JUNCTION
• Regenerate signals IP-TJ
• Requires no external power supplies (Hardware Only)

IPnet Cabling CS-041, Rev. B

Tacera callpoints are efficiently cabled using Cat5/6 cable in a
daisy chain fashion throughout the room and ensuite. Room
Controllers can be used for multiple rooms making for cost
effective deployment.
The T-Junction allows a common Cat5/6 cable down the
corridor and branch to each room along the corridor. This
branch and continued cabling provides for a simple way to
deploy and maintain cabling arrangement.

Connections

The T-Junction interfaces to the IP-CCT via a Cat5/6 UTP cable
with 8-way modular connectors. Three IPnet ports allow both
power and IPnet data to pass through the devices. There are
two types of connectors in the IP-TJ:
• Main IPnet Connector - connected to a Room Controller or

another IP-TJ on the main IPnet bus
• Branch IPnet Connector - connected to IPnet devices.
Connect a cable to one of its RJ45 connectors and then to one
of the IPnet connectors on the Room Controller.

Installation

The T-Junction is contained in a small sealed plastic enclosure
that can be fitted in the roof space outside of the rooms. In
addition, the T-Junction is line powered and therefore
requires no external power supplies.

IP Patient Station

The IP Patient Station is a slimline wall/bed head unit - which can be
used either - per single-bed room or one per bed in a multi-bed
room - providing a complete in-room patient call and audio
solution. The three on-board call buttons and cancel button allow
nurse calls, such as; presence, staff assist, code blue, to be directly
supported on the unit thereby, saving on additional call points. For
additional flexibility, the set of call types offered on these buttons
can be changed.

The IP Patient Station is suited for structured cabling where each
room/bed requires only a single CAT cable to the IP Patient Station.
Furthermore, its on-board full-duplex audio allows staff to be in
contact with the patient and using VoIP SIP allows for simple
connectivity.

Devices such as Austco pendants, handsets, multi-functional
handsets auxiliary input, over-bed lamp and flexible dual relay can
all be directly connected to the unit.

Easy to Identify and Use IP Patient Station has Multiple
Device Connectivity
The call can be activated by momentarily pressing one or more of
the three call buttons (labelled with its function) or through the
call button on Austco’s pendant or multifunction handset. The
audio is full duplex and requires no button presses to activate a
call, making it a full hands free operation.

For an easy identification, the call buttons have a hard wearing
epoxy caps, which clearly indicate the function, and backlighting,
which provides easy location and operation at night. Additionally,
once the call button is pressed, a tone sounder buzzer and
reassurance LED behind the cancel button appears, giving
patients the reassurance that their call has been placed.

When a pendant is removed, either accidentally or intentionally, the IP Patient Station will generate a pendant out
alarm. Furthermore, the IP Patient Station’s modern design allows for the pendant cable to breakaway if pulled abruptly,
limiting the risk of damage to equipment or injury to the patient.

SEPARATELY
Callpoints are designed for changeable inserts as shown in
picture. The call button insert design enables a facility to swap CS-046, Rev. B
out and replace the current call button instead of needing to
replace the whole Callpoint. For example, if a facility had a
Staff Assist Callpoint in a room and now wanted that Callpoint
to be an Emergency Callpoint, they simply swap out the Staff
Assist button insert for an Emergency Call insert and
reconfigure to alert as an Emergency Call on the system when
pressed. With this added flexibility and low maintenance
feature the facility can work out which alerts need to be
where, long after the initial install. This helps to drive
workflow efficiencies throughout their healthcare organisation
thus increasing patient care.

Lower “Whole-of-Life” Costs

IP Generic Callpoints are IPnet and feature plug-and-play
functionality. They are connected in series using standard CAT5/6
cable that also provides POIPnet (Power Over IPnet).

Each callpoint has a unique address and is supplied configured for
immediate use. Once connected, the callpoint is quickly and easily
assigned to a room using a browser, which simplifies the
installation process and reduces the cost of installation and
commissioning.

RESIDENT CHECK-IN
IPC-RCI

• Informs the Staff which residents have not checked-in
• Maintains a log of which residents have not checked-in
• Optional audible message notifications
• Check-in button conveniently located on Austco bedside

device or pillow speaker

Resident Check-In

Austco’s Resident Check-In feature allows residents to “check-in” with the press of a
button which notifies the care team that the resident is awake and is ready to start
their day. While this feature is typically used for morning check-ins,
the check-in period can be designated to be used any time of the day.

The daily check-in monitoring period is configured within the
system and residents may receive an optional audible
notification message advising them to check-in. The IPC-AUDIO
license is required for audio notifications. Residents can then
press the check-in button on their Austco pillow speaker, call
pendant or patient station button to notify care teams that they
have checked-in. Residents will then receive a notification to
acknowledge their check-in.

How it Works

If the resident fails to check-in within a pre-configured
amount of time after the initial notification message, a
reminder notification message will occur reminding them
that the check-in window is closing soon and to please
check-in. If the resident still does not check-in after the
check-in period, an alarm will be activated and displayed on
the master station and other rostered devices including staff
smartphones using Pulse Mobile.
When residents have not checked-in, an alarm is activated. The
Tacera Nurse Call System will log this alarm which can be
generated into a report. Staff can then quickly follow-up with
residents who have not yet checked-in.
