HOWARD HOUSE MUSEUM

Built in 1851, the Howard House belonged to Colonel
George Howard and his wife. It is listed on the National
Register of Historic Places as one of the finest examples
of Greek revival architecture remaining in Texas.
This museum contains period furnishings and exhibits.
Open for tours and special events by appointment only.

MUSEUM FOR EAST TEXAS CULTURE

Rooms in this 1915 schoolhouse display artifacts and
special interest exhibits. Exhibits include an authentic
vintage classroom, a log cabin, a railroad memorabilia
room and much more. It is a recorded Texas Historic
landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic
Places. Open Wed.-Sat. 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Admission

PALESTINE MAIN STREET ART TRACKS

The Palestine Art Tracks Sculpture Exhibit is a juried
outdoor art exhibit. Each piece is on loan for one
year and rotated every October. The outdoor pieces,
designed by artists from all over the state, are placed in
prominent locations throughout the Main Street District.

TEXAS THEATRE

The Texas Theatre, home of Palestine Community
Theatre, is the crown jewel of downtown Palestine and
the finest venue for live entertainment in East Texas. This
historic structure, located at 213 W. Crawford St., is
a prime example of Spanish Colonial architecture and
was designed as an atmospheric movie palace when it

ANDERSON COUNTY COURTHOUSE

Built in 1914, the Anderson County Courthouse,
features beaux-arts architecture with a
double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained
glass montage in the dome. Open to the public

BRALY BUILDERS SUPPLY COMPANY

Housed in a 1938 elementary school, this
locally-owned store & Texas landmark was
recently named “The Coolest Hardware Store

CARNEGIE LIBRARY

The historic structure is one of only thirteen
remaining Carnegie Library buildings in the State
of Texas. Built in 1914, the building became a
registered Texas Historical Landmark in 1970.

COLUMBIA SCIENTIFIC BALLOON FACILITY

Operated by New Mexico State University
for NASA, balloons as large as 300 feet in
diameter are built to conduct studies of the
upper atmosphere and outer space. To arrange

HISTORIC ANDERSON COUNTY JAIL

In 1931, this art deco style building, located
at 704 Avenue A, was built and served as the
county jail for almost 55 years. Today, the historic
facility is home to events year-round, including
the Haunted Little Jail in October and the
Grinch’s Lair during November & December.

PILGRIM CHURCH

An authentic reconstruction of the original 1833
house of worship, said to be the first Protestant
church in Texas. Take 287 to Elkhart; right on
294, into Elkhart; cross RR tracks and turn left on

TEXAS STATE RAILROAD

A Texas treasure since 1881, the Texas State
Railroad hosts events such as the Polar Express™
Train Ride in November & December, year

PALESTINE VISITOR CENTER

Located in a restored railroad depot more than
120 years old, the Center offers travel literature
which includes state and regional materials,
maps of the city and surrounding area, a
self-guided tour of Palestine and information

brochures and personal assistance for tourists
are available during business hours. Tours and
convention group assistants are available upon

The 1836 Chuckwagon Race takes place each spring
at the Diamond B Ranch in Neches, Texas. Activities

bull whip demonstrations, horse auction, wagon race

Taste of New Orleans is a great event showcasing

The Dogwood Jamboree is a Branson-style country

Museum for East Texas Culture. The festival is

The 200-acre park is open year-round during
daylight hours and has five miles of hard surface
roads, unincorporated hiking trails and scenic
