Ben Osawe (1931) was born in Agbor, Delta
State, Nigeria. His first instructor was his
father, who was a sculptor for Oba Eweka II of
Benin. From 1956-59 he studied at the
School of Graphic Art at the Camberwell
School of Arts and Crafts. Thereafter, he
returned to Nigeria, where he taught at the
University of Nsukka. He continued to
practice visual art until his death in 2007.
Osawe’s works are have been exhibited
widely in exhibitions such as The Short
Century, curated by Okwui Enwezor, and
feature in the permanent collection of the
National Museum of Nigeria (Onikan) and
several private collections.

Nigerian contemporary artist who is the mentor of the Lower Right
Abayomi Barber Art School in Lagos, Nigeria. He is an 4,000,000 - 5,000,000

known in the Western World.  He is best known for the
application of naturalism and surrealism methods in his
artworks. Some of his signature works include life-sized

RUFUS OGUNDELE

Rufus Ogundele (1946–1996) was born in Oshogbo. Ogundele became a
musician and an actor in his uncle Duro Ladipo's theater company when he was
a teenager. In 1963 he participated in Denis Williams' workshop.
From the beginning, Ogundele worked on a large scale. Using emulsion paint, he
first outlined one or two large figures in black. He then filled in the background
with white and painted the remaining areas in blue, green, and red. Ogundele
began to develop his skills as a printmaker when Georgina Beier invited him and
Jacob Afolabi to work in her house. There he learned the technique of linocut.
