I was invited to a number of palliative
care meetings, and I met a lot of
professionals in the area, and I became
more passionate about end of life care.

I then moved onto the IPU of
another hospice, and I was struck
by conversations with a number of
patients who said they would prefer to
die at home.

Since then, I’ve been looking for an
organisation that was able to offer us
time to really look after people, and get
to know a patient, and provide person
centred care that took into account
their wishes, and those of their family.

part of the team at Weldmar for the past
two years, based at the Inpatient Unit.

It means a lot to me to be in the
community now, because my brother
died two years ago having not wanted to
come into the hospice, and be at home
instead. It’s more than just care, it’s
looking after people with palliative needs
and is a very specialist area.

Weldmar at Home will give the family
the reassurance that there is someone
there to help them, however we can, and
provide the opportunity for someone at
the hospice to end their days at home
if they want to, with a package of care
in place that sometimes hasn’t been
available quickly enough.”
